@@knightni73 Do you and Ziggy Stardog have a different Heavy Metal soundtrack than I do? Mine has Devo's "Working in the Coal Mine " and BOC's "Veteran of the Psychic Wars".
Was about to say the same thing about two songs called Heavy Metal. Though Hagar had the more popular tune, personally love Felder's song. It has such a nice groove to cruise to.
One of the best concerts I ever attended was with the "Red Rocker". He played for 3.5 hours straight and never stopped. It was pure rock from start to end.
YES! You are finally checking out The Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar! This guy has done it all, Lead Singer for Montrose, Van Halen, Chickenfoot just to name a few. He has his own tequila brand and bars. He is going to be 75 and he is still going, still performing. Standing Hampton and 3 Lock Box were fantastic solo albums. Nicely done you two!
He is a really cool dude, and I tend to believe his recollection of things...no disrespect to the Van Halens....Eddie was awesome, and my hero, but a mean drunk
yup , hes a legit nice guy , not the typical stuckup arrogant "celebrity" , he gave a great concert last time i saw him , along with a great show it started raining and he stopped several times to see if everybody was alright , they passed out ponchos to everybody and the crowd screamed "rock on"
I saw Hagar live in the mid-80's in Alaska when he co-headlined with Triumph during their Allied Forces tour. The opening band was named "Chico" (from Chico, California). All three bands were on top of their game and everyone had a blast.
Sammy is probably the best live show to this day. At 73 years old he's still able to hit those tough high notes without any backing tracks. I saw Sammy Hagar & The Circle two times at Harvy's outdoor venue in South Lake Tahoe and those guys killed it.
Sammy Hagar is one of the most underrated artists out there. His album "Standing Hampton" is a CLASSIC (Heavy Metal was on that album). And the live version of Heavy Metal from back in the 80's is spot on. It's on TH-cam.
I think you guys would really like the movie "Heavy Metal", from which this is on the soundtrack. It's an R rated animated film from the early 80s, with a twilight zone-ish feel of multiple connected stories. But with excellent music throughout.
I remember seeing at the theater probably in the afternoon so not many people, my wife shopped â the mall while I was at the movies, freegan loved the movie and this is the best song in my opinion, also saw Hagar at the Texas Jam in 79 , I think Nazareth played after Hagar then Van Halen! Thanks y’all !
The first adult animation I ever saw, late at night, sneaking some late night TV, TBS I believe, blew my preteen mind. Badass. Saw Vampire Hunter D, same channel. Ahh, memories.
This song, from the animated film also titled Heavy Metal, is one of my favorite Sammy Hagar songs along with “There’s Only One Way To Rock, “I Can’t Drive 55” and “Three Lock Box”
Terrific soundtrack! Features Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Nazareth, Stevie Nicks, Don Felder, Black Sabbath, Devo and of course the "Red Rider" Sammy Hagar, just to name a few.
Just FYI, this was the version that Sammy recorded for his 1982 album Standing Hampton. The soundtrack version, which came out a year earlier, was a bit more raw and personally I prefer it. The differences are subtle but there. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/NQE1Q1NILfQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Hellrazer12
This was Sammy Hagar in 1981, just as his solo career was taking off... 5 years before he joined Van Halen as the new lead vocalist. I believe he played guitar on this track as well.
You guys should react to more Sammy Hager… "I'll Fall In Love Again", "There's Only One Way To Rock", "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy", "Three Lock Box", "Two Sides of Love", "Give To Live", "Eagles Fly", "Bad Motor Scooter", "Red", "Mas Tequila" 🎸🤘
We saw Sammy Hagar this summer and he still put on a great show. Was still out on the stage signing autographs long after the house lights came up! Check out his Standing Hampton album. So many great songs on it. Ill Fall in Love Again, Theres only One Way to Rock, Can't Get Loose and a great version of Piece of my Heart!
If you have never seen the movie Heavy Metal, you need to check it out. One of the best soundtracks of all time and it introduced anime to a lot of mainstream America.
Heavy Metal magazine had been in circulation since the mid 70's.. The movie I e adapted stories from the magazine for the movie.. "Den" , with John Candy voicing, for instance, was a recurring character in the magazine, and was a highlight for the movie. A quote.." This would never have happened on Earth!.. and now, twice in one day "..
I saw him on New Year's Eve 1983/1984 (Tacoma, WA, with openers Aldo Nova and Blue Öyster Cult), and the show was billed as "Your One-Way Ticket to Midnight!" Sammy missed the countdown to midnight. ha ha haaa Played right thru it. Oooops.
The mix on this version was a little different than what I'm used to. Very interesting. Anyways I have loved this song and the movie Heavy Metal both since they came out at the theater. I dont know if it still plays but it used to play the midnight movie circuit along with Rocky Horror The Wall Dawn of the dead Killer Clowns from outer space And Friday the 13th I've owned the sound track from Heavy Metal since the mid 80's and still listen to it from time to time. Sammy is a beast on the guitar.
Ok. When you're at a Sammy Hagar concert and this song starts , it starts off pushing 50,000 watts of power. The whole damn area quakes and vibrates with each note. One of those things ya gotta experience to understand. Epic sensation.
Seeing the movie is a MUST. The visuals along with the kickin' soundtrack will blow your socks off. You may not be able to show a reaction to it due to copywrite laws, but please do try.
We went to his VOA tour in the mid eighties - it was one of the longest shows we ever saw! I think the longeat was Bruce Springsteen's Born In The USA tour (night 2 of a 3 day stint in our city) at over 4 hours!
Born in 1960, And growing up reading Edgar Rice Burroughs "Warlord Of Mars" series, I remember how phenomenal this mix of futurist art & modern music (from the Heavy Metal magazine) was at the time! Illustration was insane! Check out H.R.Giger for reference. Better yet, check out the documentary "Jodorowsky's Dune", it's even got Star Wars!
I think the correct volume for this song is anything louder than when you're listening to it on your headphones, and your neighbors can hear it. So much so that they complain that it's too loud.
All this sounded so much heavier back when I was a kid and it was coming out. I evolved into todays heavy music so maybe that is part of it. Still love to listen to the classics.
This song is from the greatest movie soundtrack of all time, Heavy Metal. Some other tracks you should do from it are Reach Out by Cheap Trick, Blue Lamp by Stevie Nicks, and Crazy by Nazareth. And the other different song Heavy Metal on it by Don Felder of The Eagles.
Blasted this in my 1981 Camaro Z-28. Everybody got out of the way……..and I had the open road. With cute blonde beside me In tight jeans , big hair and the head bob.

Another song from the movie Heavy Metal. This was actually the theme song. This is a really good one, but I always thought it should have been the song by Don Felder take that Ride.
You both have to check out Chickenfoot, "Soap on a rope". That's Sammy, Michael Anthony on Bass, (Former bass from Van Halen), Chad Smith on drums, (drummer from Red Hot Chili Peppers), and Joe Satriani on guitar. Fun video to watch these guys.
I'd tell you watch that early 80s anime that this song was tied to by the same name, Heavy Metal, its an interesting watch for sure. The movie had some big time voice talent and the soundtrack had some big time artists on it too.
