Niles was trying to paint Matilda as a lair. Perhaps the producer wasn't down with the "Africans are liars and scammers" narrative that most Americans run with on the show. Raynae was also called out by producers but that went unnoticed.
Niles didn't accuse Matilda of lying or being a scammer. But she didn't tell him whole story of the wedding expectations, just like he didn't clearly tell her there would be no wedding. They both left information out when they communicated with each other.
I may have to rewatch that but when was Rayne called out? The closet time I can think of was when they asked her if she thinks she overreacted. Then she just says she doesn’t think she ever overreacts and they left it at that. If that’s what you’re talking about that was very different than what happened with him. They very directly argued against his version of events. I don’t think I’ve EVER seen that in 90 day history. Which i actually didn’t like. To keep it consistent, that sort of thing is more appropriate at the tell all. With the way they did it in contrast to how everyone else was treated it did come off picking on him in my opinion.
Rayne wasn't really called out like him but the castmates have different teams following them so maybe that is why it is different. In that different people have different ways of handling it.I do agree a lot of castmates really do need to be called out for a lot more . Rayne my guess is they are afraid of her reaction and as for Angela I heard that she is difficult to work with in that they would have to stop filming because she would start yelling & throw them out her house. And Niles probably they seen him as easy to confront unlike the rest.

Seriously? Look at past episodes of 90 Day Fiance! The racism has always been there, however subtle. Years ago, I noticed the difference in tone, the open hostility and rude questions from the families regarding fidelity and honesty of black men. This only happened whenever a yt woman got engaged to an African or Caribbean man. The European guys were sketchy as hell, but were almost never called scammers or con men by the in-laws! Angela is only the worst because she was encouraged to escalate, once TLC saw that it was a ratings boost. Autism does not mean a lower intellectual development. Niles is highly functional, possibly brilliant and this is why he's seeing how manipulative TLC is being. I applaud him standing up for himself. ❤
You know what I think it’s time to end the series, no one was happy this season. More often than less a lot of the situations people were in seemed dangerous too. It had a good run, too much toxic/anger now

Niles is an extremely intelligent man and TLC/Sharp Entertainment is absolutely shameless. With regard to being on the Spectrum.. it has nothing to do with intelligence and everything to do with how those on the Spectrum interact with the world around them. Perhaps they struggle in social situations, perhaps they struggle to express themselves, perhaps they have heightened awareness of stimuli such as light, sound and fragrance or odor, they may have skills and abilities that can best be described in terms of being considered a savant, I will say it again, Niles is an extremely intelligent man and if there's one person to cut through the nonsense and hand TLC back their plate of reality.. From my perspective as an autistic person the producers calling out Niles was very clearly infantilization. The call out was deserved, but it’s not typical for producers to do that- and I’ve never seen them call someone out in the way they did Niles for not being open and honest with Matilda. Like with Rayne and Joe the producers called them out in a low-key way by presenting a single-sentence question (“do you think you ever over react?” and “is it Mag-NA or Mag-DA?”). This producer absolutely went in on Niles. The way he was spoken to was like a mother scolding a child. It was all too familiar to me as an autistic woman who has been infantilized and treated like an idiot my whole life even in adulthood. I’d also say other cast members are more deserving of a call out too, like Loren and Brian…

Racism and underestimating his intelligence are two theories for the different treatment. However, a third theory, and, in my opinion, more likely explanation, is that because he is on the Spectrum, he was more direct and transparent in his thinking than most guests, so it was easier for the producers to point out the later contradicions of that initial revelation.
Plenty of people need to be called out, in that cast! I’d love to see that. I don’t know why they called out Niles. I kind of think it was just mindlessness on the part of the producers.

We can't say. We don't know that they call others out, we don't hear everything behind the scenes. Why do we always play the race card when not so great things happen? He lied. Even I was thinking, "you are lyin'," when he was saying that because in the beginning of the season he said Matilda is not going to be happy when I get there and tell her we can't get married this trip.

I don’t believe the racial part either. I’ve been watching for years and they are very diverse and accepting of all races and cultures. However, they did pick on Niece and Statler being on the spectrum and eager to show the differences between someone on the spectrum and someone who is not. I’m 68 years old and been on the spectrum all my life and yes people think you’re less intelligent but I beg to differ. We just don’t follow social cues. If TLC to their homework, they should have known this and known that Statler and Niles will retaliate, even if it cost them their contract. People on the spectrum tend to be about the principle of things and do not follow the money train.

Angela should have been fired immediately, but look at all the other networks doing the same thing... Niles is awesome. Autism can make things awkward for the person. I wouldn’t say he was lying but he’s trying his best not to escalate situations and overstimulate. If you are going to be with him you have to understand him and work with him. In my eyes he was doing his best.

They called him out because he was using the fact he is on the spectrum as an excuse. They know he isn’t stupid most people on the spectrum are extremely smart. They didn’t want to go down the route of people on the spectrum are liars.
I believe that Niles needed clarification because he has explained mistakes as a manifestation of his autism. He also uses the word “masking”. I was wondering if he was having trouble understanding lies of omission, and he was given a chance to clarify. He understands big time and what my take on it is that it takes longer for him to process and he uses “outs”. Further to the slant on colour, his bride to be is of colour also and in this equation. She doesn’t deserve to be gaslighted. It is not all about what the show is doing to Niles but it is about what is happening to her who is also of colour. Big picture. I believe Niles has had to grow up learning to be wary. I do believe that growing up different can be subject to being bamboozled. Insofar I think Niles assumes bamboozle-ment as a first reaction as a result. Heck, he was putting his stand in dad under the bus there for awhile. That being said, Niles is a good man and with enough time for reflection he takes ownership and is incredibly astute. No harm, no foul. Actually I thought it was not an immoral move to ask him in that platform. In addition…come on….many have been brought up exposing actions on those shows. That is called editing. It can expose just as, or more so than asking Niles directly about his words before vs the stance after. I think both in this coupling are forces to be dealt with. Niles was target 1000% because he was on the spectrum. Statler made a mess with a personality disorder, so did Natalie. But TLC had plans to “manipulate” and gaslight Niles… Niles parents have taught Niles extremely well with how to set boundaries, how to not be used etc. My nephew has had to learn like Nile’s. My nephew is 12 now and every week since young my sister has spent hours with pysh and community workers - teaching everything from compassion, empathy to rules etc. I’m very impressed how well Niles can call things for what they are… Matilda had chosen the wrong one to use, manipulate and get a green card out of Africa….She has NO love for Niles…. People who are autistic are very intelligent and I do believe many people underestimate Niles. I still wish, though, that his parents came to Ghana with him whether they approved or not. I don’t like to see anyone being alone in such big decisions or being taken advantage of…plus, it’s out of respect to get to know Matilda and her family and represent your family well, too. I do think Niles has to “talk in code” which I picked up during his initial interview with Melicia weeks ago but it’s due to the NDA he signed. I know Niles takes things seriously including contracts that have a legal basis to them.

In fact, he was called out twice, the second time was shown last Friday in the bonus scene of episode 13 rerun. It was clear he was gaslighting Matilda in front of Mr. Arc, and she couldn't defend herself properly out of respect for the elderly people at the table. Niles simply brought up another reason for wanting to postpone the wedding. So the producer confronted him about that. We know that each of these couples are assigned a team of camera person and producer that work/travel with them. So, it's understandable that the producer that is working with Niles doesn't put up with his BS. And I suspect this producer is new to the franchise.

Niles is my favorite. I think I understand autism a little more from watching. I don't know why he would be bitter of TLC because I think he would have lots of fans from the show. I am sad he used the race card. I don't think race has anything to do with anything. I'm very proud of Niles for being on a reality show, stepping out of his comfort zone. That took courage.
I think you do have to wonder why. Was it because of him lying which he is right that many others lie so you can rule that out, is it because they thought they could because of racism or ableism. Racism and underestimating his intelligence are two theories for the different treatment. However, a third theory, and, in my opinion, more likely explanation, is that because he is on the Spectrum, he was more direct and transparent in his thinking than most guests, so it was easier for the producers to point out the later contradicions of that initial revelation.
Plenty of people need to be called out, in that cast! I’d love to see that.

We can't say. We don't know that they call others out, we don't hear everything behind the scenes. Why do we always play the race card when not so great things happen? He lied. Even I was thinking, "you are lyin'," when he was saying that because in the beginning of the season he said Matilda is not going to be happy when I get there and tell her we can't get married this trip.

I don’t believe the racial part either. I’ve been watching for years and they are very diverse and accepting of all races and cultures.
However, they did pick on Niece and Statler being on the spectrum and eager to show the differences between someone on the spectrum and someone who is not.
I’m 68 years old and been on the spectrum all my life and yes people think you’re less intelligent but I beg to differ. We just don’t follow social cues. If TLC to their homework, they should have known this and known that Statler and Niles will retaliate, even if it cost them their contract. People on the spectrum tend to be about the principle of things and do not follow the money train.
He's a nice guy and he has a point here, but he does have a problem being honest, and he certainly likes to play the victim card A Lot. Angela should have been fired immediately, but look at all the other networks doing the same thing... Bravo & other networks allowing all those highly toxic, abusive women throwing glass and booze at each other, getting in their faces, screaming, drunken rages etc.. just like loudmouth Angela, Rayne etc.. plenty of abusive disgusting behavior that Never gets addressed. TLC/Sharp Ent. targets Every vulnerable person they can, I've been screaming that for years, and nothing ever changes why? Because TLC AND the Cast ALL want that check! This is a full circle issue, not one sided and it's happening plenty in other countries now too don't be fooled. Niles is awesome. Autism can make things awkward for the person. I wouldn’t say he was lying but he’s trying his best not to escalate situations and overstimulate. If you are going to be with him you have to understand him and work with him. In my eyes he was doing his best.

Yeah… we didn’t need the producer to chime in… how do they know that putting him on the spot like that wasn’t going to cause some kind of unhealthy reaction? He mentioned early on that he is aware that he lies as a way to cope in difficult situations…
They called him out because he was using the fact he is on the spectrum as an excuse. They know he isn’t stupid most people on the spectrum are extremely smart. They didn’t want to go down the route of people on the spectrum are liars.
I believe that Niles needed clarification because he has explained mistakes as a manifestation of his autism. He also uses the word “masking”. I was wondering if he was having trouble understanding lies of omission, and he was given a chance to clarify.
He understands big time and what my take on it is that it takes longer for him to process and he uses “outs”. Further to the slant on colour, his bride to be is of colour also and in this equation. She doesn’t deserve to be gaslighted. It is not all about what the show is doing to Niles but it is about what is happening to her who is also of colour. Big picture.
I believe Niles has had to grow up learning to be wary. I do believe that growing up different can be subject to being bamboozled. Insofar I think Niles assumes bamboozle-ment as a first reaction as a result. Heck, he was putting his stand in dad under the bus there for awhile.
That being said, Niles is a good man and with enough time for reflection he takes ownership and is incredibly astute. No harm, no foul. Actually I thought it was not an immoral move to ask him in that platform.
In addition…come on….many have been brought up exposing actions on those shows. That is called editing. It can expose just as, or more so than asking Niles directly about his words before vs the stance after.

Niles parents have taught Niles extremely well with how to set boundaries, how to not be used etc. My nephew has had to learn like Nile’s. My nephew is 12 now and every week since young my sister has spent hours with pysh and community workers - teaching everything from compassion, empathy to rules etc.

I would be more inclined to say it has to do with his disability if one is going to go with that "targeted" route strategy. Producers change every season. You get very few that stay on year after year. So, to generalize all individual producers as being in a "conspiracy" against this one cast member....as though they have a crystal ball and waited to do it only to Niles is WILD 😂

They didn't show conversations with the producer on television to other people on the show: Angela, Adnan, Loren, Big Ed, Rayne, etc.
The only thing he people who audition for these shows care about is a paycheck. TLC didn't make them come on he show. Why should they care about them? They have their own family members. Niles family told him that they did not agree with him being in a relationship with Matilda. That is on him, not TLC>.
He might not be stupid, as people are commenting, and he does have issues that he himself has mentioned and put out there…but he is way over his head in this situation with her. He needs to give it up and go home.

People who are autistic are very intelligent and I do believe many people underestimate Niles. I still wish, though, that his parents came to Ghana with him whether they approved or not. I don’t like to see anyone being alone in such big decisions or being taken advantage of…plus, it’s out of respect to get to know Matilda and her family and represent your family well, too.
I do think Niles has to “talk in code” which I picked up during his initial interview with Melicia weeks ago but it’s due to the NDA he signed. I know Niles takes things seriously including contracts that have a legal basis to them.

In fact, he was called out twice, the second time was shown last Friday in the bonus scene of episode 13 rerun. It was clear he was gaslighting Matilda in front of Mr. Arc, and she couldn't defend herself properly out of respect for the elderly people at the table. Niles simply brought up another reason for wanting to postpone the wedding. So the producer confronted him about that. We know that each of these couples are assigned a team of camera person and producer that work/travel with them. So, it's understandable that the producer that is working with Niles doesn't put up with his BS. And I suspect this producer is new to the franchise.
Niles is very smart but because of his autism he is so innocent and unsophisticated in many ways and that alone would make him a vulnerable target for "TLC or maybe even Matilda to exploit him and take advantage of him. I don't get a sense that it was race but it could be to some extent.

Niles is my favorite. I think I understand autism a little more from watching. I don't know why he would be bitter of TLC because I think he would have lots of fans from the show. I am sad he used the race card. I don't think race has anything to do with anything. I'm very proud of Niles for being on a reality show, stepping out of his comfort zone. That took courage.

I think you do have to wonder why. Was it because of him lying which he is right that many others lie so you can rule that out, is it because they thought they could because of racism or ableism.
