Wagnerianus is probably less resistant to spear rot. Last year I had to remove a large wagnerianus that was growing near my summer house in northern Poland. A wet winter and temperatures dropping to -10/-12 C caused the spears to rot. Trachycarpus Naini Tal survived the same conditions.
Looking good! I love the blue color of this species. Mine have never flinched an inch in the coldest temps. Even the potted ones froze in the greenhouse and they are flawless
I always did well with the minors, they never took damage even with the recent polar vortexes and hurricane force winds during the vortexes we received in Portland. Two tips for your minors, plant it in the hottest spot available, and water that thing as often as you can during the growing season. Surprised that Waggie took so much damage, but I bet once it has a couple feet of trunk it should be ok .Good luck with them
In general -12°C for a small Waggy is already a lot to take. But I like the blue look of the Sabal a lot so who cares. Might plant the Waggy next to the wall of the house.
Looks great, sure is blueish! That yucca next to it is magnificent 🌴
I think you are absolutely correct; planting with the polar vortex in mind. Our new normal!

I have a few in the garden and this one seems to always have damage
@@palmdaddy It’s a very picky Wagy

Both my trachy look just as bad if not a little worse. I didn't bother to protect them and wish I did. Got down to about the same here in Washington.
I’m
Not too worried about the large Trachys, they will be fine.
