Part 2 - Macro Photography with Laowa 60 mm F2.8 Ultra-Macro 2:1

Covid19, no travelling, perfect opportunity to finally try out some macro photography. All images shot with a Venus Optics Laowa 60mm f2.8 2:1 Ultra Macro lens, a Meike 320 Flash and Canon EOS 77D. Videos shot with iPhone XR and Osmo Mobile 2.

Thanks for the nice shots. Do you have canon 100mm f2.8L macro lens? If so, how do you compare these two? I'm planning to buy one of these but not sure which one to go.

Hi! I only have the Laowa lens. For insects its is perfect, with a much higher magnification and image quality than the canon. For butterflies i am usually between 150-200mm on my Tamron 70-200 f2.8

El laowa es una opción muchísimo mejor!. De hecho, yo no compraría un 100 mm sino el 25 mm con magnificación de 2,5 a 5 x!!!, Diafragma variable, escala de profundidad de campo según distancia de enfoque, diagrama de uso, y magnificación elegida!. Una maravilla de lente!.
Incluso en diafragmas muy cerrados tiene muy bien corregido el defecto de difracción óptica que es tan desagradable en otros casos de otras marcas y que obligan a trabajar usando diafragmas muy abiertos, y con poca profundidad de campo te obligan a sacar tomas con distintos enfoques para después en software apilar todo para lograr enfocar todo!. eso, en el laowa 25 mm lo tienes muy corregido y puedes hacer uso de los diafragmas chicos con total tranquilidad y confianza de lograr un resultado óptimo

Hi! no focus stacking for any of these photos, simply single shots with the laowa 60mm 🙂, as far as i remember mostly f11, all freehand with long flash times 1/60 or so

not shot at f2.8, its just the max aperture (and name) of the lens :-) macro photos more like f10 if i remember correctly

Très beaux clichés !, très détaillés, qui ne sont pas ceux d'un débutant... tout est maîtrisé, en particulier (et surtout) la lumière qui est très belle.
Je crois qu'il existe encore en monture Nikon réflex... mais sans doute faut-il se dépêcher.
Je possède déjà le 100mm 2x qui est plus récent. Mais le 60mm propose quelques avantages, en particulier concernant la vitesse de l'obturateur qui peut être un tiers plus basse... ce n'est pas négligeable !
