  • I bought a used GERBER EDGE 2 and it has some issues. I only gave a few Hundred for this one, another $250 for the 30-40 foils and and some other miscellaneous stuff needed to run this gem. A big shout out to the Plotter Doctor for the quick turn around on the boards, they tested everything and sent them back in a few weeks.

      Thanks Bob, its just the way it turned out. I generally have a thought and run with it 🤣 sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad...

    I really love your videos. Where do I start to learn how to use my Edge2 and Envision cutter?

    First thing to look for is a surface mounted fuse usually marked with a F1 or f2.

      Thanks, sent it out to the plotter doctor and they sent me a new board. Not sure if it was a really expensive fuse or not, but the EDGE works now.

    Awesome! Great to see you got her going! I laughed a bit when you hit Online and none of the other buttons did anything… always thought it was funny you had to be offline to advance any of the moving parts.
    Thanks for sharing!

      I'm pretty pumped about this printer. I worked with an EDGE FX about 12 years ago but never grasped the OMEGA software. Do you have and EDGE too?

      @TheSignGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will, I hope this works out. The printer had low hours before the board went bad so I hope to make it a profitable piece of equipment. Still have a way to go and a bit of a learning curve, if you have any suggestions to make it easier let me know!

    I'm a retired "sign guy" with two Gerber Edges. Both are working. The oldest has one pixel out about.9" from the bottom and the "blue" Edge like yours has a very dim display, which I think just needs cleaning and/or blowing. Since you reinstalled the motherboard and the driver board, you may need to run the SETUP PROGRAM before the machine will work. Also, the PRINTER PORT on my machine needs to be set at "ECP" or the Edge won't print. I'm using Windows XP on the "blue" Edge and Windows 7 on the older model. Not sure where you are but at some point pretty soon all my "stuff" is going to go. I've got three 30" S-750 plotters, two 15" plotters GSx and GS-15 (swivel and tangential), gobs of 30" and 15" vinyl and a ton of thermal foil. It looks to me like you are enjoying the business and really interested in the technology. I was the same way. I'll keep watching this video to see how you make out.

      I'm just now starting to work with the EDGE after the other printer failing on me. Lots of new possibilities with the edge printer....

    You can go through the test print mode by clicking the hidden button to the left of the setup button it doesn't have a label but if you press in that space between setup and the feed button it will show options on the screen. Online means it's ready to print. I have both a edge 2 and the edge 1 they are great machines.

      Thanks for the tip! What program are you using to drive them? I read a bit on how to do a test print, that was successful! The head needs cleaned and I'm looking for some 99% ISO to do a little more testing before I wreck the print head.

      @@TheSignGuy I run them on Flexi by loading the Gerber foil color swatch in the Flexi library. Using the Gerber color swatch Flexi will recognize when foils need to be swapped and tell you when to switch foils on the Gerber screen. Flexi will print in CMYK by default if the colors used in your image is not from the gerber color swatch.

      @@nimbledecals Awesome Thank you! I already added the swatches but I want to print the fluorescent colors as well. I noticed they are not in the normal "swatch" library, any guidance on that. I think I can just make a flour color and name it as a spot color? How does that effect the heat settings from foil to foil, or does it matter?

    • @nimbledecals
      @nimbledecals ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheSignGuy Gerber fluorescent should have its own swatch in the Gerber Scientific folder. I've used another color in the default Gerber spot swatch on occasion for a different type of foil and never had an issue with heat settings. 99% of the time I leave the heat setting at normal in prod manager and only if I am printing something with a solid white foil with a foil overlay do I bump it up to darker, but most times I never even need to do that. I only do it to make sure the foil melts into the vinyl but you can also do a scratch test on test prints to confirm the foil seated well into the vinyl. If you can scrape the color off with your fingernail it needs more heat. If the heat is too high you will hear a plastic crunching sound of the foil backer peeling off the vinyl which is usually a signal the heat is too high. After a few prints, you'll start to get an idea of the sounds when your settings are right. I've had both my edges for close to 15 years and both still run like new no dead pixels except for my Edge which has a 3/4 band at the bottom but it's been like that since I bought it and never got worse. I make sure to roll out my vinyl and wipe it down before I print to remove any dust and I check the back of the foil that goes up against the print head for dust since that is usually what will damage the printhead. Also when I store my foil I will roll it back by hand to have the used section protect the unused foil from collecting any dust and roll it forward when I load it in the edge.

      LOL, I got a great deal but it is a little leg work. I figured out how those guys are ink-jet printing fluorescent, this thermal printing process will be soooo much easier!
