As a plumber with 30+ years of experience pouring lead joints, the best way to skim off scum on the hot Babbitt is with a thin pine shim, we buy the ones made for door shims.
I saw this being done about 40 years ago. At the time I couldn't imagine ever seeing it being done again. Thanks! :)
if you are taking about the shaft, yes it is the same diameter as the crank. fortunately it was an off the shelf diameter.
You guys make it look easy. Is that a special rod / jig you made to pour the babbits ?
