Definitely a memorable villainess. Carmen Santos was intense. Saundra Santiago had a strong presence in the role and made even the most routine scenes come to life. Some of the animosity that Carmen had towards daughter-in-law Michelle became a bit repetitive, but it was clear they were never going to be friends or like each other. Unlike other older women on soaps, Carmen had an active sex life as these clips illustrate. But she never let a man get in the way of her bloodthirsty need for control. It's a shame they never had her go up against Alan or the Spauldings, that would have been something. Instead she was mostly too focused on her son Danny or problems with her daughter Pilar. We never really found out much about Carmen's dead husband, the father of Mick, Danny and Pilar. I think there were a lot of unexplored avenues with her. The most interesting period for Carmen, in my opinion, was when she tried to keep Vanessa in a coma so that Michelle would be framed for murdering Ben Warren. That was a great storyline.
My favorite Carmen scene was in 2002, between her and Alexandra Spaulding (when Joan Collins was temporarily casted in the role, before Marj Dusay returned) and Edmund Winslow. That was classic, as well as some added comic relief. I certainly miss seeing Guiding Light and other canceled soaps. Kind of wish CBS given GL a 6-month extension (through March 2010) to resolve a few stories. And kind of wish they could've brought back characters that had been absent, perhaps revealing a few characters believed to be dead (like Maureen Bauer, Coop Bradshaw, and Tony Santos) to be not so dead after all, and giving legacy characters (like Mike Bauer and Meta Bauer) proper sendoffs, and so on. #SaveOurSoaps
She was definitely dangerous, a femme fatale with absolutely fantastic fashion taste. She had an almost borderline fascination with her own son. The song that should had been played with this particular video devil in disguise.
You want to see a Cray Cray Mother. Check out Suki Pansear on the UK Soap Opera Eastenders. She sent her Son to Prison for a crime he didn't commit because he's becoming too much of a threat to their "Business". She "owns" the Neighborhood Convenience Store that has been selling out of Date Merchandise.
I always have this theory about the real reason Carmen Santos appeared in Springfield is because of the death of Roy Meachem he sexually assault Abigail Baurer a year before The Santos Crime family showed up.And Carmen has a sudden vendetta against the Baurers ever since the beginning.Roy Meachem must be a member of the Santos Family himself
I would have liked for Carmen to have her men kidnap Lizzie while Lizzie was dating a young member of the Santos family and her family (Phillip and them) and Carmen can have a round

I never was a fan of the Carmen or mob story line. That's when GL starting copying off the other soaps. I was ticked when they killed off Ben in that story.
I hated the mob story. It kind of took over the show. Along with Reva/Annie. The problem was you can’t all of a sudden have the mob in Springfield this whole time and never mention it. It’s as if GL was trying to be something it wasn’t. They just kept dragging it on. Killing her and bringing her back again and again. I thought the character of Michelle deserved better than that storyline.
I really enjoyed Carmen's character on Guiding Light. Loved watching this video. Thank you for another great video!

I always loved Carmen's performance, even though I thought she was the kind of person you love to hate as well as the Devil in disguise.

Loved her and this era of GL
Great video!
Hey guy! Carmen was one of my most favorite characters till I came across Alex!

Great profile, but this was one of the characters GL never recovered from.
I wish we knew more about her family of origin. Pilar and Danny said she wasn’t always like this. I wonder what happened to her

I always thought she was dead.

The Edge of Night Man Agreed. I hated how the mob storyline just completely took over the show and I stopped watching not long after.
She was still alive at the show?
