Good video ! It's good thing to do a video about Athens's trolleybus. How many trolleybus routes run again ? I have see : 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 14, 17, 21, 24 and 25. I am happy to see run again lot of trolleybus. This town have a big traffic problem (lot of cars). It's better if they separate trolleybus and cars. I think, it's complicate to film trolleybus in the streets. The Van Hool trolleybus run again, but they do a strange noise, no ? Thank you.
The trolleybus routes of Athens currently are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 19B, 20, 21, 24, 25 Some facts about the network: -Most of the Trolleybus numbering has nothing to do with how old the line REALLY is, many routes are recent in creation, but there are also many routes that were discontinued and their number was LATER given to an another line with a completely different route. The newest trolleybus routes in numbering (without any letters) are routes 24 and 25 created in 15th November 2002. -Routes 18, 19 (Route 19 has 5 schedules in total, 3 from the starting point [5:20 / 23:10, 00:00] and 2 from finishing point [06:05 / 00:00*] ) and 19B (19B as a brand new line, created in 2021, introducing letters in the trolleybus routes numbering system) are the remainings of 2 (former) trunk bus routes A6 (18) and B6 (19,19B), Express line E6 (which was more like a "boost" line for peak hours of line A6) lasted more than A6 (Route A6 was replaced by Trolleybus route 18 in 2004), more precisely (to show the irony), bus route E6 was discontinued in 2009-2010. -Trolleybus routes 24, 25 are local trolleybus routes serving Northwest suburbs, 24 and 25 were created in 2002 as even mentioned above. -Trolleybus route 10 had gone through many changes throughout the years of its existance (in many morphs) but the most important and noticeable ones took place around the 00s. 10 Athens-N Smyrni-Palaio Faliro ([This was the route's name a little bit before it got discontinued completely till its reappearance a few years later on an another morph]) followed the route of today's Tram Line 6 till Poseidonos avenue intersection (this is where the tram enters Poseidonos avenue to go to its terminal at Pikrodafni) (It is obvious why the route was discontinued). In 2008-2009, Bus route 450, a really important intermunicipal bus route of Athens was given to Trolleybus operator ΗΛΠΑΠ (ILPAP, In english:[Electric Busses of Athens and Pireaus area](at the time) and it was renamed from "450 Tzitzifies-Chalandri" to "10 Tzizifies-Chalandri". -Line 7 (in its new morph) was really shortlived, it was created in 2021 and it slowly disappeared in 2022 -In 2008-2009, it was planned for bus route 049 to be given to ILPAP, just like bus route 450, the plan didn't get approval because ILPAP didn't have enough drivers for the line to be "converted" (it wouldn't be worth it). The wires are still at their place over Peiraios avenue and they are being used by off service trolleybusses either coming from or heading to Rouf depot, or even Attiki and Kokkinos Mylos depot. -Trolleybus line 17 was formerly a bus route aswell, 848. -Trolleybus route 21 replaced trunk bus route A18 (Nikaia-Omonoia), a part of the (recently) "lost" *18 trunk routes group (Β18-Γ18 trunk routes were replaced by bus routes 841 [Γ18] -842 [Β18] because of metro line 3 expansion to Nikaia [at the time the final station of line 3 was Nikaia]). -Trolleybus routes 2, 3, 4, 11 and 14 have had their route changed at least once, route 3 had its route changed 3 times! (more precisely from "Ano-Patisia-Girokomeio" to "Nea-Filadelfeia-Ano Patisia-Girokomeio" to "Nea Filadelfeia-Ano Patisia Neo Psychiko"). -Trolleybus route 16 replaced bus route 835 (Pireaus-Ag. Anna) in 1987, trolleybus route 16 follows almost the same path with former bus route 835. You'd ask me, probably, why "almost"? Well, because of many changes on the road planning of Pireaus, more specifically in Gouva area, during the mid 1990s, for example the creation of M. Asias avenue (which didn't exist till 2003, all the changes started in the mid 1990s though) and the creation of Kifissos Highway, created some small changes on the route, but the main part of it, is the same to this day. -Trolleybus route 20 is the oldest one created in 1948! While the old tram network of Athens was being replaced by busses and trolleybusses. -Busses have route 20A saved in the display sign device. Route 20A was a temporary bus route which had its starting point at Karaiskaki square and its finishing point at Drapetsona (Finishing point of line 20). In 11th of May 1998 because of roadwork in Eth.Antistaseos street, 20 was "cut" to Psaron street. Route 20A was created to cover that, empty spot that was left after Psaron street. Route 20A had its starting point at Karaiskaki square and its finishing point at Drapetsona (Finishing point of line 20). During that time Trolleybus route 20 was renamed to "P.Faliro-Psaron" (with the numbering 20 of course). Route 20A followed the EXACT path of Trolleybus route 20 after Psaron street and as mentioned before, it also had the EXACT finishing point of 20 (as it was before and as it is today). Route 20A was discontinued in 2002 and Trolleybus route 20 was finally renamed "P.Faliro-Kastella-Drapetsona" and it was brought back to its old route! Sort of. The only difference was that the finishing point had changed, because of some issues with asphalt at the location of the old terminus. The route has changed multiple times, with small changes being made even before the creation of temporary line 20A. -Trolleybus route 11 is the only 24H trolleybus route in Athens (and in whole Greece). For anyone stumbling upon this paragraph, i need to mention that my work was kinda rushed so there might be a few mistakes made (grammatical mostly) or some spaces left. Feel free to correct me if you find any mistakes! Or even add up more information about Athens' trolleybus network if you feel that stuff is missing and it is worth mentioning them! As an Athenian myself who really likes public transportation, i had to add that paragraph here.
