PART 2 Darwin Unplugged -The Handbrake's Holiday

Continuing our not so direct route north our first mission was to track down a track leading to Spring Creek. Not everything went to plan and our first attempt led us to an old copper mine rather than a creek, we eventually found a creek, not enough water for a swim but it made a welcome lunch stop. After gaining some local knowledge from the station manager Craig, he pointed us in the direction of Fountain Springs which turned out to be a spectacular watering hole and a perfect opportunity to wash off some of the road dust of the last few days.
Hitting the tracks again we pulled up outside the told town of Ballara which is the site of a deserted mining town in the locality of Kuridala in the Selwyn Range between the towns of Mount Isa and Cloncurry. The crew were getting restless so it was time for a serious cookup.The next day the camera team headed off to Mount Isa for batteries that turned out to be the shape of beer can, so the handbrake and I headed off to do some exploring of the old mining town.

After several decades of following you loyally i've learned two things Roothy. 1) The Handbrake is absolutely nothing like what i had in mind - she's lovely! and 2) Your voice is like a rollercoaster running through a bowl of fruit loops... in a good way ;) Keep it coming!!
Great video series. It's nice to relax and watch them and inspiration to make a some more trips in our little Canter. The history of this country is amazing in so many ways, and deserves to be shared more widely. We're looking forward to the next parts of the trip.
On the quote about the 'death of one man'; it was first attributed to Joseph Stalin in 1947 in the form: "If only one man dies of hunger, that is a tragedy. If millions die, that's only statistics". As a girl with an Eastern European background I can safely say Stalin was well qualified to make the comment - he ordered or oversaw the deaths of millions of us before and after the second world war.

Hi Roothy, ive subscribed to your channel because you and the wife (handbrake) make a lovely couple who have many good years under your belt and who make brilliant vlogs. I've only seen "The handbrakes holiday" 4 partner but now I'm hooked. I love the comedic music your chosen for the backing track and most of all because you're a great character and this world needs people like you. Your wife is beautiful (batting above your station there mate...ha ha). I love your rig (Milo), can't beat a toyota. You guys are so lucky to have all that wilderness to explore. If and when I get to Oz look you up even if it's just to shake your hand. We had a real character in UK called Fred Dibnah who was a steepljack by trade and whose videos can be seen on TH-cam. He became quite the celebrity because of his trade and his interest in traction engines and steam power in general. Please look him up it's worth a look. Keep up the amazing vlogs my good fella. Looking to seeing more.

No, Milo is in the museum now - this was something we filmed a couple of years ago, just as a personal thing - figured given how things are now we should share it.

Private land but publ;ic tracks if that makes sense - there's a book about Cloncurry back tracks, pretty well know up around the Isa anyway - just turn off at the sign and go... after this virus thing anyway!
