Back in 1975 my Dad gave a no-name radio similar to the Patrolman 60 from an auction and I remember the trill of picking up CBC mailbag show and Canadian Airfarce. I then was able to hear the police on 155MHZ and A.T.T. Mobile phone system around 158MHZ over $3 a minute for a call in my QTH or Tucson, Arizona. The radio failed after about a month so I lost interest until I joined the U.S.Navy so my 1st real shortwave was a Sony 2001 with PLL digital tuning…what a difference.
