I remember Allegheny's ads on the radio early mornings, as I was getting ready to go to school in the mid-1960s. Those ads used a warm jingle that made me want to play hooky from school and go to the airport instead and fly away.
Oh, the days of flying in Coach and having a full, hot meal. Nowadays, you are supposed to be grateful for a tiny bag of pretzels. Want a soda? Plan on paying for it. Don't forget that you'll be crammed in a miniscule seat with your neighbor's "love handles" crossing over the armrest. 🤣. I need a time machine to beam me back to the "golden age" of commercial aviation when flying was not only enjoyable but also reasonably comfortable. Remember the pleasant flight attendants who liked their jobs and weren't old, tired, burned out former correctional officers that we seem to have a preponderance of today🤔? Thanks for reminding me of happier times in the air.
Yeah fellow black bar fan, I couldn’t tell where I was in the video to the exact hundredth of a second that was necessary. Now my friends can see my favorite frame!
Maybe you should start your own channel where you find, restore and upload rare video that would otherwise be lost forever and have no markings so anyone can use it for their own purpose for free!
If that black bar wasn’t there, the video wouldn’t be here either. Periscope makes money by selling high-resolution versions of this footage. Which costs money to acquire, scan and put online. That black bar with the Periscope Film number is their marketing/advertising.
That does it! I’m flying Allegheny and nothing else from now on!
You'll need to get intouch with H.G Wells first, pal.
My Dad used to fly Allegheny a lot for business travel. He nicknamed it Agony Airlines :)
Everyone called it Agony Airlines. That’s an old moniker
Evidently it's in agony no more.
Became Useless Air (US Air)
@@ChiefBridgeFuser which became American Airlines
All-agony.
Great shot at 6:03 of the reservation agents and the computers they used.
This film really "lifted" me.

You don't like grow wings ungrateful jackass
What memories! I flew Allegheny out of Patrick Henry Field many times. They and Piedmont were the best regional carriers around!
Good film from an old McDonnell Douglas employee :)
IBM 360 looked a bit on the heavy side. 😀
How many DC-9s did Allegheny/USAir fly over the years?
Who would have watched a film like this, and where? For whom was it made? Where was it shown?
Reminiscent of my time with Western Airlines circa 1960's and 70's. The only way to fly 😎
Smoking in the gate area. The good old days.
Typical they left out the hardest working group the ramp rats 🐀 from any recognition. Nothing has changed on that end.
Yea I was wondering why a pilot was signaling a taxiing aircraft, good thing it wasn't raining.
This is early 70's .. guessing 71
I’m thinking maybe even late 60s based on hair styles and music. The IBM 360 computer was introduced in ‘65.
We called it Agony Airlines.

The markings are there to discourage the footage from being stolen.
Man I love that obnoxious black bar, keep it up! It totally isn't obtrusive in the slightest

Then go to the website and purchase the footage for yourself if you find it so obtrusive.
Always some c__t complaining about the black bar. Don't watch it then, a__hole.
Seeing the "high wide" tagline, I automatically assumed they were going to talk about today's fat women.
