    Hey Everyone, guess this is the first time I actually adress my viewers ;)
    First of all, Thanks for 10.000 Subs. Didn't expect this to take off like that but that's awesome.
    Secondly, it would be cool to hear some opinions on whether I should add voiceovers/more explanation for more complex builds like this, or stick with just showing the work and keep it snappy.
    Either way, more videos are on the way. Stay tuned!

      Congrats on the 10K subs! I actually just subscribed to you within the last month. I would love to hear voice over for complex builds like this. I like your videos regardless but I think explanation would only add to it. Keep up the amazing work!

      No voice over! PLEASE!! And if you choose to add some explanation , can you just do it with text (or subtitles)on screen?

    And I thought I am the only one who always hate those wobbly bike stands! Finally you made a proper stand! Those wobbly stands are super inconvenient to use for almost any bike work. This is a great design, you have great machining skills!

  • @GrandMallDancer-ei6vx
    @GrandMallDancer-ei6vx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh man what a piece of work ! , you have all the toys, your machine work, beautiful welds on real steel, and wheels, (more steel), gears?, oh wait, needed lower gears, probably for the optional clamp for Jacob's motorcycle !..You sure make that look easy, like one day when you were about 9 your dad said , " son, I wanna show you something out in my shop".....

    My favorite channel. I need something for picking up my velomobiels, already made two molded saddles of fiberglass/carbon on belly. This vid could give me some ideas. It needs to be cantilevered out so i can get totally under it and work.

    • @PhilVandelay

      I'm actually 90% sure I will revisit this build in the foreseeable future and build a better version. It's not that I'm unhappy with it, but I can think of so many things to improve. One thing is what you said, I want to somehow make a stand that takes up less space in front of it. I might also motorize the lifting...

      It's funny you mention that because I'm actually planning a new version of this lift that will do exactly that! It will also be much beefier and able to lift more weight. Probably not enough to lift a car ;) But enough to lift very heavy bikes, or myself, hopefully

    Nice welding and execution. I understood what was going on without a voice over. I just have one suggestion, and that is to add a secondary lock to the vertical lift portion. It looks pretty solid, but the gear teeth could cam out and slip.

  • @thecorbies

    Hi Phil. Re' whether to voice over or not? I think 80% no - a video is more universal that way; so long as there is enough info text on screen (or maybe in the description) to cover the project. And 20% yes - because I think the viewer gets a better understanding of the video maker, PLUS, you can add spoken comments that might be forgotten in text.
    NOT saying that YOU did this, but I feel that once a given hole is drilled/a flat is milled/a fillet is welded/etc., the viewer doesn't need to see all the other 10, 12, 20 repeats, so speeded up footage is marvellous there.
    Time lapse can also work well for extended duration projects.
    Either way, I'll certainly keep watching having just come across your channel (looking for 'windscreen motor chain hoist drive'), and binge watching maybe 8 of your back catalogue, PLUS I just subscribed.
    I also think that a list of items and maybe sources would be great, and, you might want to consider the 'affiliate links' possibility.
    Regards Mark in the UK

  • @joono9476

    Nicely done! It still looks a bit wobbly towards the top. If you are able to drill on the ceiling, maybe install some sort of sturdy pipe that you can lodge into them in multiple locations if you have more than one build site. just my 2 cents if you want it more stable. otherwise awesome build.

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah having it be mobile is definitely a tradeoff with stability. Not too many options without either fixing it to something like you said, using a large base (gets in the way) or putting lots of weight on the bottom. I'm currently planning a new crane that will be a compromise, being somewhat mobile but mostly stationary, with a big steel plate as the base. My shop is so small that unfortunately installing it in a fixed position doesn't work because I move stuff around all the time. I can report it's never fallen over so far though. But almost...

    Isn't there a way to make the crank handle stationary in a low position then use bike chain to cause the assy. to rise? Just like peddling a bike, the chain goes round and round and so does the wheel (so does the lift) with only minor modifications.
    Magnificent build, by the way.

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean the type of welder, it's a TIG welder but I actually don't even consider myself to be that good at it. It's just that with TIG welds usually come out cleaner looking than with other processes like MIG
