This is amazing. Man in a white car gives me emotions that are difficult to describe. Almost otherworldly. Such a beautiful piece of music. I'm so grateful for this live clip. What a perfect keyboard moment!
The Fantasia on “video killed the radio stars” in the middle is a real treat. Like a live masterclass on composition. The whole solo by Geoff creates a dreamy atmosphere.
Like smitbar11 I was at this gig. I was a student in Leeds at the time. I remember travelling back overnight (in the days when passenger trains ran overnight in the UK!) to Derby, for a long fester in the waiting room, then on to Leeds, getting back after dawn, racing home for a wash, a change of clothes and some breakfast, then making it in for a lecture at 10:00. I also remember not being able to keep my eyes open by the afternoon. Worth every moment. Wish I could still manage it now!
I recorded the MSG simulcast and then a couple of weeks later saw the show in Detroit. This, and We Can Fly from Here and Go Through This were highlights.
I was a sixth former in Leicester at that time and attended both shows on consecutive nights. My first chance to see Yes live after several years as a fan. My friend and I bunked off from classes for the afternoon and arrived in the gardens outside De Montfort Hall just as Steve Howe was parking his car. Alan White arrived shortly after that. We were awestruck as relative youngsters to meet both guys, even briefly. Then the catering staff came out and asked us if we knew where the nearest health food store was, so we jumped in the car with them and showed them where. As a reward, they took us up to the dressing room to have look around. The gigs were great, but I never thought I'd get to hear any of it again 44 years later. And yes, white shorts.
@@TM-dh8um I was at Wyggeston QEII at the time. I had a similar meeting with Japan in De Montfort gardens when they were supporting UFO. When Alan White passed away my cousin was the organiser for the tribute concert in Seattle.
I agree. I think he's a more interesting, creative writer. But the last two times I saw him with Yes he was terrible. Loads of clams out of time... He was worse on the Drama material than Topographic, which was really disappointing.
Great demonstration of Downes as a gifted pianist. They should have had a longer version on the album.

Very cool story
I remember this tour as well, but saw them in Toronto. Listening, and the memories come flooding back...wonderful time to be young. 🤗🤗🤗

Written about another legend apparently, Gary Numan.
This is a new one for me. Thanks!
I was at this concert, I'm sure Downes wore tight white shorts that night.
He did.

Awesome.
Very cool... Is this show available as a CD?
Future melancholy.
Take all your dreams and your throw them away...
Beautiful song...I always feel like Geoff has been sorta the underdog to Wakeman, but I like Mr Downes more to be honest :)
MRMONOPOLYization you lie!
Geoff is good in his own, but he is he and Rick is Rick.
Maybe I'd love to watch them perform together
