Bangkok hotel deaths: Families of Vietnamese victims seek clarity on details of crime

- It's been a week since six foreigners were found dead in a hotel room at Bangkok's Grand Hyatt Erawan. There is still no official conclusion on what happened, although Thai police have found cyanide in the room, indicating possible death by poisoning. CNA's Tung Ngo spoke to the mother of one of the victims, 36-year-old makeup artist Tran Dinh Phu.
If someone owes you a large amount of money, do not eat or drink offered by that person.
Only 2 of those 5 people poisoned were owed money. I think she poisoned everyone incl. herself to make those who she did owe money to not be suspicious. So evil.

The woman was pure evil she killed that innocent boy who was a make up artist. Maybe she did not have the money to pay him so she killed him too.
Yeah, maybe. The makeup artist was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe he was invited to the dinner and she wanted to kill them all (her investors + makeup artist). RIP Phu and condolence to the family.

Something wrong and not add up with Thai Police 's investigation. Too quick to draw conclusion and it makes no sense. This Phu guy did not drink tea and only water bottles. People do not drink tea for a toast, or drink tea before a meal but after. Not all people drink tea at the same time but sipping it so the rest would see others collapsed before drinking themselves. People eat meal then pack up. Here it is the opposite, they packed up, then go to drink tea then big meal. Nonsense.
Yeah I feel the Thai authorities are too quick to rule it a suicide murder by poison.

That is ridiculous. In Asian culture (I’m Vietnamese but grew up in the west) it is completely normal for someone to suggest you cheers to tea even if you don’t normally drink it. And it would absolutely be considered rude in that context if someone refused to not drink any tea just because you don’t normally prefer water “not even a sip to say bye with everyone”?

Her mind is so evil. Every thing is money and power, when she did not have either, she took their life with her.
The Thai police and government quickly investigated and closed this case to avoid negative impacts on their country's tourism industry. However, many questions remain unanswered to this day. The US and Vietnamese governments need to cooperate to reinvest.

Sound like Ms. Chong is a scammer, for claiming that she is the wife of a Dubai billionaire. She believed in Feng-Shui and listened to the Feng-Shui master in Hong Kong. This is one of the lead to find the real culprit. Please trace her money trails. Whoever took the money is the real culprit.
I know a woman just like her. Scammer and listening to feng-shui people who were also scammers. If they didn't show this woman's picture, I would have thought it was her.
$5,000 to do makeup, that is a nice salary, albeit a tragic outcome.
This high salary should make you question why? Billionaires are not known for giving money away and most are quite cheap. Always expecting something for nothing because they think they're "special".

The conclusion was reached within the first hour of the "investigation" as demanded by Thai PM. I don't expect the authorities will release any more information. Swept under the rug quickly and conveniently to protect tourism. RIP to the victims.

Exactly. Looking at the perpetrator's face, there is no way I'd believe she was the wife of a Dubai billionaire. She looked like she had awful filler jobs on her face. Even is she said she was rich, I'd be investigating my client's background as well.
According to investigation, there were apparently no signs of struggle.
FYI, cy* poisoning isn't instant or painless like the films portray, it is actually painful and the victims will usually struggle when it kicks in (suffocation), weird that none of the victims shown any sign of struggle, not even one.
So many sus with this case.
On a side note, scammers don't usually kill themselves, they do it with zero remorse.
It's usually the victims that show guilt or remorse or regret, because oftentimes it's not only their own money they "spent".
Since the makeup artist is irrelevant, i doubt the person that invited him would've involved him if she was gonna commit murder-suicide, following this line of thinking, it makes more sense that one or more victims of the scam decided to end it, maybe they spent money of their relatives and have no face to continue living, or it was their final savings, or their children's future education funds, etc etc... it's these kinds of guilt that usually drive victims to fatal decisions.

I found the details of the crime were puzzling. The alleged killer Chong, owned a few properties in Oakland USA worth much more than $280,000US. Why killed everyone including herself?

Properties were most likely mortgaged and she didn't "own" them. Oakland is not a great place to own property.
