You might already know that the A6700 is a fantastic camera. But how does it perform for bird and wildlife photography?
Does the autofocus hold up, is the image quality any good? Should you go APS-C or Full Frame?
I'm trying to answer those questions and more in this video.

I own a Sony A6700 and I'm very happy as landscape photographer with this model.
Sony is just absolutely slaying with their apsc game lately. One thing that is imo one of the absolute best and most important features of it is actually its ibis. It just makes it so much more capable with everything thats not bright daylight.
I'd kill to have an A6700 in an A7 or A9 body. Just so much nicer to hold, not a fan of the A6x00 bodies :(
@@mjsvitek I mean, you can get a7R series and use them in crop mode. It's even better because you get both the full frame sensor and aps-c mode, a better body and a dual card slot
@@mjsvitek i like those bodies a lot. if i have to do a extended shoot i just put a grip cage on it and make it more comfortable. the a6400 is my current main camera
how are they slaying it? they only release like 2 bodies after 5 years that basically have the same internals minus a fan or minus an evf :/ 🤣🤣🤣
But that tiny body is unusable for me.
Great video! I like the perspective from a photographer who actually uses it and pushes its limits and is not just gear review. No one can look at your photos or footage and think that they will have an unusable piece of gear. That camera looks awesome I hope I can buy it one day!
That cinematography was absolutely breathtaking . ❤
Your videos are like therapy for me
I have A6700 for landscape, hiking, Birding, and I’m proud of it
What lenses do you use?
Tamron 70-300 and kit 16-50
Should I buy it also
Also I have 6700 with tamron 18-300
Great job on the video Ollie! Thanks for making it.
Finally! I have been waiting for this video. I bought this camera in January and was looking forward to hearing your opinion.
You bought the camera already ? I’d suggest go out there and use it . Shoot with it . Practice more and you can have your own thoughts about it . Practice practice more .
thanks for your videos Olle, it's always so clean and perfectly balance between tech and nature, and THAT is amazing to watch !
Glad to hear that, thank you so much!
Finally new video thanks much
Each and every video of yours is a masterpiece. Loved the intro, music, clips are so well matched, this is called art. Great work Olle 👏👏👏👏Loved it
Thank you so much🙏🏻❤️
This video is so soothing to watch. I have nowhere enough money to buy it at the moment, but still I enjoyed the video greatly.
Great Video mate keep up the good work.
Watching your videos inspires me to become a photographer, even if its just as a hobby.
Mate there is no way you actually did this video, even shooting pictures with the Sony 70-350mm after I‘ve just mentioned it in the comments on your last video. Haha stoked AF.
Thanks so much and great video as usual man. Have a good day!
Bought the A6700 last year but haven't tried it out much in favour of my full frame bodies. The camera was mainly intended for Macro use (focus stacking capabilities) and for video with a budget entry to 4K 120. Now, as the majority of the pictures I take are wildlife and the full frames has been "welded" to a 600mm f/4.0 GM with 1.4x TC the swap to the A6700 didn't get me exited until I decoupled the TC and mounted the camera directly to 600 mm (900mm f/4.0 Eqv). The results and general look of the images of birds in action was for me very pleasant surprising. I now have 900 mm f/4.0 without TC as previous 840mm f/5.6 on full frame. I have not seen any videos of matching the A6700 with the 600 GM and are planning do to one in the near future. Thanks for a interesting video
Love your work Olle, Thank you so much.
Thank you for sharing Olle, I really enjoy your content on your channel. I also have the 6700 and a7IV but I only use mine for fun.
This is gonna be a good one!
i love my a6700! got the 200-600 to go with it and its so much fun!
Grym video som alltid! Håller med om slutsatsen, de vi kommer minnas i framtiden är de magiska möten vi har i naturen! 🦉🐺🦅
I was looking into buying this camera and looked to see if you had this exact video on it yesterday, thx lol 😆
Your videos are always amazing and informative .
Thank you so much!!🙏🏻
I've been looking forward to this review!
My answer on "FF or APS-C?" is Both! I use an a6600 and it's pretty difficult to give up on the extra reach for the better low light performance of a FF...so I want both. I want an a6700 and an a7CII because I like the small form factor and the better auto focus. The EVF is good enough, one card slot is enough, 10 fps is enough and even a 24 mp sensor is enough. If you do it everything right, it's crazy how much you can crop a 24 mp image. All these are good enough and make enjoying wildlife photography possible.
Thanks for the review!
Ohh, and the E 70-350 mm lens is amazing. I love it. Perfect light weight setup!
Thanks for a real world review on this camera. Really can’t decide between this or the A7iv.
The A74 is a good camera many use for videography. But it lacks the new tracking technology found in the a6700 and A7R5. If macro, insect and animal photography is something you like to do, the a6700 is a fantastic choice. I find it more satisfying than using a FF camera. I bought the A74 and sold it because the a6700 is a superior camera despite the smaller sensor.
Great review ! This camera seems like a great compromise for prica and what you are getting out of it
That's a great in-depth video and cover almost all the topics related to wildlife.
I wanna know how's sony doing with firmware update with this a6700 ?
Thanks for sharing! Sony A6700 is good hybrid camera for both photography and videography. I love it.
Amazing review!!
Thank you so much!!🙏🏻
I love your videos and you never disappoint. You have turned me into the photographer that i am today!
Thank you!!
thank you so much for telling me that🙏🏻❤️
@@ollenilssonen your welcome bro i follow u on instagram and i use the lumix g9 (60 photos per second.) If i move to sony what camera+lens should i get for a sub 1600 euro budget
@@ollenilssonen Your so welcome bro you always make my month. Ill see you next vid or might see you on instagram
What a good video, I liked that you mentioned many things about bird photography, and I want to have that camera like the first one, instead of a phone, although I do have to save good money, greetings from Colombia!
I was just researching on A6700 vs A7M4 and then saw this video. amazing!
@wizardowlgenius7186 I actually have the A7M4 and looking for a second body, travel and for wildlife, can get that extra reach. I am debating between A7Cii which is a smaller A7M4, for $2200, or go for the A6700 (better grip, better rolling shutter, 4K 60 no additional crop so 26mp vs. 14mp for cropping the 33mp) for $1400!
@@GuitarRJP A6700 also has 4k120 which most cameras does not have..
@@GuitarRJP I have an a7iv and as a second body an a6700. He's really great, and AF is famous. Both together cost me less than a7rv.
omg the icelandic guy, what a crossover
I love you, just in time when i need to choose between the A6700 and the XT5.
Thank you ❤
Fuji X-T5 has 40 megapixels sensor (from Sony) ! Sony A6700 only has 26 megapixels.
@@cameraprepper7938The thing is: I just don’t need 40mp on a cropped Sensor 😅
Nice Video, I definitely want to try this camera and I'm looking forward to you checking out other camera brands and your opinion on them...
great video mann.
Appreciate it!
One, if not the best apsc camera out there!
This camera is amazing I watched this video twice what a camera 🔥🔥
Nice review 😊 how did you reduce the iso noise? Would love to know the program you Are using
I would love to see what type of images you could do using the sony a6400 that would be amazing... great video as usual 👌
Great review!!! Can you please review the A7CR for wildlife
I think its the perfect hybrid camera for hiking, travel, cruise. Fits so easily in a bag with small crop sensor lenses
Great review! I'm trying to get into video and have a hard time understanding the dual base ISO, is it ONLY in S-Log 3?
Ive got setup a6700 with 200-600 and its great for wildlife quite light i can do handheld af is really good sometimes struggles with branches but like others. Most importatnt its quite afordable set
Your videos are so recreational
Thanks for the info about using the touchscreen to AF. I have an a7cii and have tried using the screen before when using the elf but it was very inconsistent and ineffective. I don't think I knew you could change the touchscreen area. It was set to Right 1/2. However I just changed this to Right 1/4 and now this works consistently and efficiently - a game changer for me.
Fantastic video Olle. I loved the opening sequence 👏🏽👏🏽🔥 🔥 🔥 I'm really impressed. If you do another brand comparison, please go for Nikon - they offer the best range of long lenses & Sony need to up their game (or Sigma will do it for them 🤣)
I own an A6400 and a 200-600 mm, with a crop factor that's an amazing zoom. I really recommend that or these things shown in the video.
Tell please, do you often feel the lack of low light performance with your combo in the first?
@@harry54ck No, not really. It's Sony, they can handle some ISO.
Great review Olle and nice footage, I recently sold my A7IV and bought an a6700 after trying it for a few months. I was looking for a light setup for travel photos and wildlife and with the Sigma 1.4 primes for APS-C and the Sony 100-400 I can have all I want in a small and light package 😁 One thing you may not know regarding when the Sony a6700 (as other mirrorless) focus on the background instead of the subject is that in the a6700 (in my Sony a7IV or Sony a9 this option don't exist) you can activate a manual focus override function that works all the time, this way, anytime you need to readjust focus while in autofocus mode, you can turn the focus ring and the a6700 changes automatically to MF until you stop moving the ring, is a great way to readjust focus manually when the camera needs a bit of help
Thanks for the tip man!🙌
A6700 is perfect for a compact travel camera 🤌
I Have a sony a7ii do you think this camera 📷 would be an upgrade?New sub thank you for all your hard work wow off the charts.I shoot wildlife birds and squirrels I don't have and never could afford a lens like you have.2nd question what lens would you pick that's a wonderfully deal.😊
You can use a magnetic iPhone cooler, to eliminate overheating issues.
Good revew!
I literally came here from Peters channel! Nice content you got! >;))
I looked at it as I like Sony but am going to replace my G9 with a G9ii because as a wildlife photographer I need good autofocus, high fps and rolling shutter that isn't bad
I just love the image coming off this sensor, it seems like a slight color science update vs the a7s3 or a7iv. I sadly dnt have them but when shooting side by side, i find richer tones with it. Please do us a comparison vs the a7iv or fx3 sensors ;)
I also like the fact that the 26mp is something your not against, I asked a wildlife photographer who currently uses the A1 if he planned on getting the latest A9iii with the global shutter etc, but he instantly dismissed it due to only having 24mp and said he'd said till the next version of the A1 comes along. It's each to there own and about using what equipment is right for you, but to grumble at 24mp seems silly as Canon and Nikon's top spec DSLR camera's that I believe you can still buy from new at the £5k+ price tag only come with 20mp lol
Hey Olle, I love your videos and I was wondering if you could do a video with the Sony A7CII.
fr id love to see that also
I am very impressed with the A6700 . I concur the video with tracking is as good as my A1 if not better . Image quality has certainly not let me down at 26mp awesome 👍
Awesome video man. Loved it....Can you do a comparison video about a6700 vs a7iv please? I am 95% into still photography....
Thanks!
I’ll see if I can borrow the camera it bit longer, then I might do something!
For landscape photography with this camera, what lens would you recommend?
Could the Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Vario Tessar T be good? If that's OK, do I also need to buy an adapter? ...Or could you recommend something else (even cheaper)?
Thank you for your video and reminding me to take the camera and go outside. Cause that is the most important thing. You can have the latest gear, but it doesn't mean anything about your photos. Btw. I got the A7c II this year and it is incredible.
Hey man, congrats on the camera!
Im confused between a6700 and a7cii, do you think that 800$ difference is worth?
@@vishaakr2860 That is a tough question. Besides the Megapixel difference and the slightly better stabilisation, both cameras are very similar. I love the new C1 Button on the A7c II and I'm using it heavily. Also my Lenses are all Full Frame. If you have the budget, I would recommend the A7c II because there are more Lenses available.
@@Thomasmcse I understand. I am worried about the depth of field apsc cameras can produce, but at the same time i don’t do professional work. Tbh money isn’t the concern here. Just that i don’t want to splurge money on body, i d rather invest that in an extra lens.
What do think about the tamron 70-300 for people on a super low budget and for full frame or apsc?
Hi, I would like to start my adventure with wildlife photography. I used Nikon before, some time ago I had the opportunity to use Sony a6500 while hiking in the mountains and I really liked working with it. I am asking for advice whether I should choose Sony A7 III or A6700. I will be grateful for your help!
Hey! I have a question for u.. is the Topaz Denoise actually better than the Lightroom one?
Wow My favourite ❤
Really can't decide between the A7iv and the A6700 at the moment to get with the 200-600mm Sony lens. Which has the best autofocus and is one SD port really a problem? Thanks
It would be really cool to see you try out a micro four thirds camera like the lumix g9ii or something like that.
Gorgous, just perfect. Just a question, would a A7 III do as good as this camera? From your opinion
Not for autofocus but better in low light.
Do you have any videos using the A7RV?
Hi Ollie. Do you use DxO Pure Raw to remove noise? I'm very pleased with it, This is not an advertisement, just a question)
I use Denoise AI or Lightrooms built in. Thanks for the tip!
Great video! I have the Sony Alpha 6300 and the Tamron 150-500 mm and i really can't decide between this and the 7IV. My main problem with the 6300 is its poor light performance because I cant go higher than Iso 6400. How big of a difference was it in the test? If you could only have one camera for everything would you go with this or the 7IV?
Keep in mind that putting that lens on the A7IV will reduce the magnification by 1.5 times, but you'll get about 1.5 stops of noise/DR improvement.
Sony is positioning the 6000 series as a great secondary camera for A7/9/1 owners while being a great only camera for anyone in Beginner to enthusiast user,
Im thinking about buying a Fujifilm X-H2S with Fujifilm Fujinon XF 150-600mm as my first camera, i have very little experience so the tracking will be helping alot in the beginning. you think this will be a good choise ?
How would you rate an APSC lens like the Sony 70-350 vs an equivalent FF lens like the 200-600G in terms of image quality on the a6700? Do you think the much larger weight is worth it?
The odd number a6000 series (6700, 6500 etc ) focus more on video upgrades while retaining most/all the photography features of the previous model. With this in mind I cant wait to see what the a6800 brings us. Better IBIS, new evf, new joystick, 2 cardslots and maybe even a new higher MP sensor and an increase in fps. If sony can nail these things the a6000 line will be insane.
Dude....can you please test the S24 ultra camera....like in every perspective....curious about how it'll perform when specifically u test it
You are by far my favorite photography content creator. Your videos are just relaxing. Very chill. Would love to go on a shoot with you once.
Edit: Also i can help with the video, have a panasonic, the auto focus is bad.
I appreciate that so much, thank you for watching my stuff!
@@ollenilssonen Did you ever test the Sony A7RV for wildlife? Do you think it might be worth it?
@@outlawmonkey actually have it right here as we speak.
So far, amazing camera!
@@ollenilssonen Nice, looking forward to see a video with it! :)
As your most likely aware I'd imagine quality, especially with noise is going to depend on the glass too, if your using good quality G master glass etc should be better than using cheaper glass. I started on the a6000 and still have but rarely use these days mainly due to the rubber grip coming off it at the side and the batteries life with the old style batteries and the smaller grip. I just came back off holiday and took my old cheapish Tamron 18-200 vc apsc lens, and even in the sun of Spain some images look a bit noisy due to it only using the central part of my sensor on my a7iii. I would consider this as a replacement for the a7iii at some point as I'm just a hobbyist and the extra reach would be welcome especially on my 70_200 and 150_600 sigma sport lenses. Great video as always.
Hello, check, do you take your photographs in slog-3 then you develop them in some program to give your corresponding lut, best regards

Kul att höra❤️
@@ollenilssonen fotar också men jag är inte lika bra som dig
can you please review a7cii as well. confused between both.
The a6700 is just all around an almost perfect ASPC camera, I just wish it had a slightly better LCD screen (1.8m like the XS20) and an second card slot. If it had those 2 things, I'd honestly use it for almost everything. It also has the highest dynamic range of any ASPC sensor, it's like 12.3 stops at iso 100, which is extremely good and in video it's 14 stops. As for the longer filming, Ulanzi makes a $30 fan accessory for the a6700 and it extends the filming time in 4k60 to almost 2 hours.
Yep, second card slot and that's all I could really ask for from a camera, I think. Especially now with some fast lens options like the 27mm 1.2 or 75mm f1.2 and the Sigma f1.4 range.
@@Thirsty_Fox And honestly, I think Sony is going to come out with an a6900 that will rival the XT5 / XH2.
Quick question. Why the same sony lens(200-600) priced differently at some sites? Does it have a different model with the same mm(200-600)
love from germany
Another video, another learnings.
Beautiful.
Thank you!
This is damn crazy. Started photography a few weeks ago with my smartphone(Galaxy s22) because i love it and i want to learn more about it :) But these cameras are soooo expensive its crazy.
I bought all my gear used and it really brings the cost down...for learning I first bought a compact that allows you full manual, and next I've got sony A3000 with a kit lens, which I highly recommend if you want to learn since its one of the cheapest cameras out there (I've got it for about a 100 with the lens and a bag) that has a modern mount and has the basics of a modern camera.
I've got a couple of Canon r6 for you to try out 😉
It’s perfect camera I using with tamron 18-300
I am using the A6700 with the new Sigma 500 5.6, and it is an amazing lightweight combo. The IQ is outstanding and the AF a dream. You have to try the combo yourself sometime :)
Must be a dream!!
Brother i just wanted that you make a review video on xiomi 14 ultra camera 🥺❤️
What do you recommend doing if you don't have much wild life around you and cannot drive to find wildlife. I've always wanted to be a wildlife photography just don't know how to find the wildlife
Hey just a question, I’m currently looking to get into wildlife photography but I don’t currently have 1k to spend on a lens what’s some good lens under 1k
Hey ! Pls if u have time...can u say wich sony ff camera enought for nature and Astrophotographie? I have canon but i want a 2. System. ( Canon for wildlife) . So wich systermcamera plus uktra wide objektiv is good for nature and nightphotograpy? Thx and have a nice day 🙏💪😁
the Axx00 lineup isn't pro-level which makes sense as to why they only have 1 SD card slot but how much would it cost to take out another small rectangle in the side and solder an SD card port to the PCB?
I also have only had 3 SD cards fail me in 20 years and they were all PNY since then I have had Sandisk and a Samsung.
will you do samsung galaxy s24 ultra camera test?
Could you please share your AF settings?
Olle my boy 🎉❤
I use an A7RV and I am having a hard time justifying the purchase of an a6700 because the A7RV APS-C mode is the same as the a6700. That said, I would love a smaller form factor for travel. If sony had made a 30 megapixel APS-C sensor or incorporated a stacked APS-C sensor, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I have been thinking about a Sony 70-350 lens to save weight. I would love to see a comparison between the 70-350 and 100-400 GM on a 6700.
Sony ❤️🙏 amazing 😮
