I'm a 26 years old Italian supporter of Atalanta, yet I vividly remember watching on Sky the first ever Wigan BPL match against Chelsea in 2005. A really balanced fight, decided in the end by Hernan Crespo. Well you can believe me or not but from that moment on I decided to support also Wigan as extra-italian-not-top club. I remember the season 2005-2006 as an incredible one with 10th as final place. I really hope that they come back as soon as possible in Premier. All the best from Italy. This is the best football related channel/magazine ever imagined ❤
I was 3 years old when I went to that game, although my memory of it isn't vivid in the slightest I remember one thing more than anything which was the excitement the stadium, both before and after the game as many fans were just amazed to see their team playing against world football giants when a few years prior they were watching them down in the fourth tier. Up the Italian Tics 🔵⚪💚
What a Story I have had with Wigan I myself am a teenage (18) Maltese citizen which already support a foreign team, and that being Inter Milan 🖤💙. However, I still remember so clearly the day that Wigan Athletic won over Man City in the FA Cup Final. From there onwards, I couldn't follow Wigan all that well from here because of football rights not being able to show any games or highlights. And the first time that I got a chance to enjoy Wigan again was with Fifa's Career Mode. For the past 6 Fifa's (or years you could say), I have become one with the club, following them through their highs and lows, try to achieve everything with them on my career mode, and this year, I also managed to buy their Home kit. I must say that after Inter, Wigan have a special place in my heart and I will also say that I have become a Latic. #COYL 💙🤍💙
That's really lovely to hear. I'm from Wigan and always see my home town as just a small, little Northern former-coal town. So to think there's people outside of the UK who not only know of Wigan but support Wigan Athletic is wonderful and surprising! If you ever get frustrated with how poorly Wigan perform though, just watch our rugby team Wigan Warriors :) They're one of the best in the country!
As a Wigan fan, that has been such a delight to listen to journalists taking a interest and coherently explaining the situation and it's presedence in football. I thank you all, and please can we have an update episode. The fans have done so much to raise money since this episode.
It seems like non British owners don't understand that the vast majority of football clubs don't actually make any money and that the only way to make a profit is to sell them down the line for more than you paid for them. All the championship clubs seem to be just gambling on reaching the Premier League, which is basically unsustainable.
You would think after the demise of Bury there would have been so much more of an effort to stop something like this happening again. A lot of people are to blame but the EFL will continue to have proverbial blood on its hands and there needs to be so much more regulation regarding finances in the Football League considering how many teams make a loss. Maybe this crisis may prove to be a blessing as there could be more of a centralised version of control and teams will have the means to rebuild a bit.
Will Patrick clubs should be fan owned like they are in Germany. The only issue is that it would be financially damaging to do so to any team in the PL or EFL. The only way to realistically force clubs to be fan owned is in the National League or lower. Maybe the radical thing would be create a separate football league?
I see a call for more control of club finances in the EFL, while people are also calling the the financial fair play rules to be scrapped after the Man City appeal was won.
Jack Brown It is definitely one of those that is fantastic hypothetically, but you’re right, the ramifications would just be too financially perilous for many teams. Bury should have been the wake up call and it’s sad that our shared optimism on this provoking change has to be at the expense of a pandemic and nearly another club
13 months later and things are finally looking up. New owners (not quite Far East tbf) who seem to genuinely want the club to succeed and have lots of ambition. Our story has only been enriched by this experience and now that this chapter is closed, hopefully we can look forward to a long and successful one under the new owners. None of us will ever forget what happened to us, the suffering that went with it, but that has only made us more connected to each other
What about the Football League's fit and proper person test. Good luck Wigan. I love going there with Leeds. We get a decent allocation of tickets and the Pies are excellent.
Can we get a What's Going On At Huddersfield Town? From the highs of promotion to the premier League. To closing in on back to back relegations. Club sold to unknown local businessman with intangible wealth. Lack of reinvestment of player transfernfees. New managers brought it but still unable to make it click. Plenty to look into and discuss.
I can't believe the FA will dock Wigan 12 points over this. Artificial administration. They are with Leeds, WBA and Brentford the best form team in the Championship. I am a Stoke fan.
Glad to see more people talking about it. I’ve been treated like a madman for knowing the facts better than most people who were constantly telling me ‚it’s the clubs fault for spending money they didn’t have‘ after I was giving condolences to Wigan fans, as if it’s the fans fault it some way? If you can’t be bothered to educate yourself on a situation then don’t try to comment on it.
the ric parry story has been widely dismissed as nothing more then rumor and parry's tone in the video shows this. He doesn't believe it himself and clearly says it's rumors
Well surely that requires more investigation by the EFL then and an immediate points deduction is totally unfair. On top of that Parry said there has been these rumours for a while, so how on Earth have they passed this guy as fit and proper when there are rumours of something dodgy going on?
Today’s Public Announcement brought to you by Steve Reed. The public and advisors must be aware that, however easy it is to make false claims and commit criminal offences, if found out the consequences for those tempted to do so will be disastrous. They are almost inevitably in the future going to lead to sentences of imprisonment, which will have the knock-on effect that the lives of those tempted to behave in that way, of both themselves and their families, are likely to be ruined. Ask Begbies Traynor Group PLC regarding their blackmail and bribery offences.
Hey tifo guys another fantastic summary of an interesting story developing at the moment I appreciate that this is absolutely not the best way to go about this but I would love to know if there's anywhere I could send off a sample article written on the FA cup semi final between Manchester City and Arsenal and the tactical battle between Pep and Arteta. I am 18 and haven't studied journalism however have always enjoyed writing and believe myself to be quite good at interpreting data and using it to support my ideas along with having a huge interest in the raw data and tactical analysis in football once we strip away all our tribalism and preconceived ideas on managers, players and tactics.I would love to make an inroads into football journalism and as im sure you guys will appreciate am looking anywhere an opportunity may present itself. If you are aware of any outlets I could use in order to forward this article on to the relevant parties it would be greatly greatly appreciated, thanks.
Did the guy that bought Wigan realize that putting it into administration is not an easy fix? It is only meant to be a last resort for clubs that have exhausted all other options
What's to discuss rule is simple go into administration get 12 points deduction. This has happened to numerous clubs and always comes down to dodgy owners and clubs who look the other way to keep on the merry go round. Take your medicine and get on, you'll find a new owner, stop whining.

try being a Barnsley supporter ....very confusing times
Great analysis lads and very well informed!! Lets hope we get through this #wafc
its absolutly crazy what happens there.. but i Think Wigan is a Club with much of potencial to survive this.

It's the EFL who have taken the points off us, the very people who ratified this Kenneth lad as 'fit and proper'. Absolute scandal
Imagine bought a club just to bankrupting it.
