    The new highway is the first phase of the route that will go from Bar to the northernmost point of Montenegro and represents the most difficult section. THAT PROJECT WAS NECESSARY BECAUSE THE OLD ROUTE WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND TOOK MANY LIVES AND IN WINTER IT IS A GAMBLING TO DRIVE THERE...As for the trains, there are modern trains on the local level, but for the international line, classic coupes are used, which is a better option than modern cars without partitions

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @MBA-PRODUCTION

      @@JayandSarah It will happen soon because now it is an easy section... There should also be a second highway from Croatia through Montenegro to Albania and Greece, and also an expressway on the same section but high above the sea.... The EU will give money. There is money, but there is no wisdom.
      If we didn't have constant attacks and political interference from Serbia since the nineties, we would already be in the EU and a much more advanced society.

      During the pandemic I worked part time as a fedex express courier, so my sense of navigation is very good... but yes, when you are totally lost without google maps... it is a bit hard on the nerves, especially as the sun goes down and you need to find your place. Miraculously, we always seem to find where we are going. Not sure if it's dumb luck or what.

    I took this train when I was a little girl with my parents. I remember we were going through the mountains all night long. Back then, we didn't change the trains and the whole ride was on a train that resembled the train from Montenegro and it was packed. People were sleeping on the floor as well. I'm surprised the Serbian train has no tables so people can eat. I think we should complain to Serbian Railways and ask them to change that.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's really no tables to eat in either of them on the day train. On the Montenegro train, only the people by the window have a tiny table to put any food on. At least that section is not that long. Having essentially a commuter train on the Serbian side for over 7 hours is not very thoughtful for the people using it on a long distance. Is what it is. Not sure I can name 25 cities that are better to be fair... Because I can name cities like Toronto, where perhaps you have more options, I'd not be walking 3-5 kilometers back home at night in Toronto. While in Belgrade even young girls are almost at no risk. You can pay with your credit card in the machines that are next to the bus driver. Or if you buy a serbian sim card, you can just send a msg to pay for your ticket. You were tired, to say the least, after a long journey, but, why didn't you just pause at the very comfy BG railway station and get all the info you need right? You could've asked anybody as many times as you needed for clarification, people are very friendly there. And there should be free WiFi in the station!
    You were at the right bus stop! There are line numbers on the buses, and there are only a few lines there, so you just wait until your bus arrives. Bus drivers may be from Pakistan, India ... and not speak Serbian, or English. There is also a public transport app, and signs with current arrival times displays are at every stop. Very practical and easy to go about.
    If it was 36 you were in it and later it was behind your back. The one across the street had probably just arrived and was not at the proper bus stop.
    Next time, just stop for a moment and study the situation, it is as simple and as modern as elsewhere in Europe.
    In the end you were suggested to use the 41 trolley.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We did stop for a moment, as you say we were very tired. This is not our first rodeo on travelling. The initial information we were provided at the station was wrong, and we had to go back to find someone else who knew what they were talking about. Thanks for watching!

    Why did you not do any research 0n no withdrawal fee ATMs in Serbia ?

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We needed Serbian Dinar right away, so your options are limited at the train station. We thought we would get a taxi until they quoted us rip off foreigner pricing and would not negotiate. This is standard practice all over the Balkans with foreigners. We did find other place afterwards with no fees. When you travel full time, you accept that ATM charges are part of your expense. In terms of our total annual costs to travel as expressed in banking fees, it is not significant enough to be concerned about.

Only a person who neverr travelled trough Europe would say Belgrade is the most beautiful. Only last summer, i was exploring the Trieste for whole day and i was thinking the whole city looks like the Belgrades city center, only cleaner and even nicer. Wait until you go and explore Ljubljana, Florence, Amsterdam... Belgrade is actually very ugly and it sucks saying it, because ive been here since birth, for 31 years, but Novi Sad is nicer, Niš is way nicer to live and the traffic is HORRIBLE in Belgrade, its so annoying to know every day the whole city is full of traffic jams. • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is surprising that they don't have food/drink but the trains are just not designed for it. The Montenegro train had toilets that started off okay but became a filthy mess in just the short ride. The Serbian trains the toilet was in very good condition, clean and well stocked. Both trains are non smoking posted. On the Serbian train, nobody smokes. On the Montenegro one, people smoke down by the toilet. Is it worth it for the views... hmmm... the best views are only about 3 or 4 hours of the journey. It is one LONG train ride. I am glad we did it. Taking it back was a mistake we should have just flown back to Tivat. If you are on vacation and pressed for time, I would not suggest to spend that much time on this train. We have all the time in the world so to sit on it for all that time was no big deal.

    2:18 Locals might call it the "road from nowhere to nowhere," but it does start on the outskirts of the capital and ends in Matesevo. After all, every road must begin somewhere. They chose this section because it was the most challenging to build. The problem is that the one-billion-dollar loan from the Export-Import Bank of China is a disaster, which is why Montenegro sought help from the EU. Despite this, they continued negotiating with China to build a sea highway. Corruption at its finest. Serbia will most likely complete their highway connection much sooner and at a much lower cost.

      We were quoted 1500 dinar from two separate taxis. This is around $19 CAD, $13 EURO or $14 USD. We always look at alternatives now at Train or Bus stations given our past experiences of being charged more than the standard local taxi rates.

    Scenic, yes. But the train is really bad and old. From the 1970s. It would be nice if this were a new train.

      Sure a nice train would be better but you have to go with what is available. It's a pretty authentic experience getting on the old train in Montenegro.

    Best train ride? 😂 Guys, we HATE this specific route BG - BAR or vice versa.. When you travel in the evening there is a sleeper car, but this ride is sooooo bad.. There are often delays, and once delay happens it's hours upon hours. It's literally crazy how bad it is. To be fair, this train does go through hell of a mountains but still, it's pain in the ass :D

      @@JayandSarah Just one. The road is being used very much so. Its just one of those things in the new age where it costs 10x than it used to and some other failiures like in this railway project in US... 1billion compared to almost 10 is quite significat and nobody seems to talk about it 😆 but the Montenegro road gets the headlines in many balkan-monte documentaries and reports. The road will be in its second phase will start This september to finish part that connects with serbia. And while that is being builded the last one will also start.
