    That’s a very solid build quality for a fan of the 2000s. The blade pitch, oil ports, large motor etc. In many ways, I would say this fan is superior to the Patton fans of that era. Even little things like the rubber grip around the handle is a nice touch. Great acquisition!

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, Patton had gone down a bit in quality by this point. This is definitely on par with the older Pattons from the 80s and 90s as far as performance is concerned. I had no idea what a good fan it was when I saw it back in the day, I figured it was just a run of the mill unit. Who knew.

    Got mine at Home Depot 20 years ago. Best ever. The motor started getting hot with a whiff of burning smell. Damn! Wonder if there’s motors for these available? The replacement from Lasko is so weak compared to this baby.

      You could always get the motor rewound, or if you're so inclined there's definitely comparable motors out there you could retrofit in.

    I bought this fan and used it alot in my studio to pull paint fumes out, and I just kept using it until eventually the on/off switch and direction knobs on the side all started cracking due to dried out plastic. I saved everything and just put the fan in my closet for years until this week. I pulled it out and glued all three knobs back together with JB Weld Plastic Bond, then used a wire brush to brush the whole fan off, cleaned blades with a damp rag, and now its running. I was wondering if you are supposed to just put a couple drops of machine oil into the oil port? I love my fan. Thanks!

      Speaking of SMC I have received a recent acquisitions from the curb it was the SMC TR-16 and the SMC 16 stand fan from the late 90s, I had a mishap with the ring on the tr-16 which I have taped. The stand fan from around 97 was found after the 1999 cool breeze stand fan (Hong Chia), they both looked identical from each other but the main difference is in the build quality, I have found the SMC base to be rather heavier and sturdier than the cool breeze (Hong Chia fan), The adjustment tilt stays in place while the other drops down if moved, the feet are screwed in while the other used push in types not to mention that the height adjustment grip is screwed in while the other one is push in. The metal of the crossbase of the SMC was thicker than the cool breeze fan. The the blades were thicker and the motor was more powerful than the TH-16 from 1998. All these design features shows how much cheaper the Hong Chia fan was at the 90s compared to the SMC and it was really sad to see that in from 1998-2001 they threw all of that durability and power potential away which was shown on a lake breeze stand fan from 2001.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That seemed to the be the case with a lot of fans, the year 2000 was generally the last year of really good quality with so many brands and models.

    Jordan, thank you for this video. I have had my Hampton Bay Floor Fan SVC20 forever. How do I get replacement parts. When I turn on my fan, sometimes it gives me a sound that I never want to hear. So, taking preventive measures in place.
    I bought more than (4) of these fans and two of them walked away from my home. The only one remaining is the one that I used in my room.
    I hope that you can help me and that it's not hard to do the replacements myself.

    Hello, I have the HB 20” SVF20 fan like this from April 04. It was given to my husband by his brother and was very rusty. We took it apart to clean it up but my husband passed before finishing. It has become a task of love to complete but the can that held the parts for it was picked through by a friend that didn’t know better. Do you know where I can get a breakdown of the parts for this? I want it to be complete but also safe. It runs amazing and I really want to put it to use for my family. I would appreciate any help or information you could provide. Thank you in advance. God Bless, Bev

    Perhaps the second handle could be used should the fan be mounted on the wall. It is also convenient as it is easier to hold with two handles. This thing puts the ILG8F21 to shame. I picked one up today on marketplace and the bearings were as free as your fan's bearings are. A true testament to the SMC quality of the early 2000s. Edit: Forgot to mention that I found an 18" version new in the box on marketplace but I chose not to purchase it.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even though this is more or less the same thing as the ILG8F21, this is definitely far more powerful. The blade is stronger and the motor is more powerful. I wasn't aware there's an 18 inch, I wonder how many other sizes exist.

    Perhaps the double handle and the two sets of speeds on the control, means that the fan could be used upside down so that the stand would be in front of the fan?

      Blows it out of the water.
      It's not able to be turned around that far, the tilting stops just after it's facing strait upwards. Cannot be angled very far down either.
