- The SONY ICD-TX660 is a great audio recorder for those hard-to-capture situations. At just larger than a pack of gumsticks, it's easy to slip into a shirt pocket or attach to a handheld mic. But, it's also easy to pass around for speeches/toasts that don't have a sound system. It may not have the best specs like the Zoom F2 or the most features like the RØDE Wireless Pro, but it's a fantastic option to have in your toolkit.

Hİ, Can you please comment between SONY TX660 and Olympus VP10? Is it worth the price difference? Which one do you recommend?
I haven't used the Olympus VP10, but judging by its specs, the SONY TX660 is a better recorder. The SONY is more compact, has double the internal storage, and better recording sample rate.
How does it do outdoors? Does it catch a lot of wind?
It does ok outdoors. I wouldn’t say it catches a lot of wind noise. But, obviously if it’s very windy outside, you’d need a deadcat fuzzy or some way to shield it.
Can I have the recorder in my pocket and still record with good sound quality?
I’m assuming you’re talking about a shirt pocket? As long as the clip is clipped onto the pocket, so that it doesn’t slip down into the pocket or turn sideways, it does have good sound quality.
@@blytheandkarry i want to have it not seen but in my jeans pocket.
This is definitely not the right tool for you then. You should to look into a lavalier recorder system like the Zoom F2 or the DR-10L, or one of the newer wireless systems that have a wired lav option. You can have the recorder/transmitter hidden in a pocket with a wire going to the microphone placed in a good position around chest height.
Would this be good for a conference record8ng?
If it’s in the shirt pocket of the speaker, yes. If it’s any substantial distance away from the speaker, no. There are many options that have a more directional pickup pattern that would be significantly better if you are trying to record from more than a few feet away from the person speaking.
Hmmm shitty news! How about the olympus vp-20, or is that comparable?
The VP-20 is very similar to the TX660, but half the sample rate (not a huge difference for spoken voice, but worth mentioning). The style of microphone is designed for relatively close-range recording. If you try to record someone across the room, it will pick up every noise from every direction around you as well. If the speaker is loud enough, it will still be audible, but won’t give you the same quality as a shotgun style mic like the Zoom M3 MicTrak.
Wow, learning a lot. Subbed!
Thanks!
I just bought a RØDE Wireless Pro that I’m hoping to record a few videos on soon. It’s my new favorite go-to mic system for weddings! It does have some limitations, and I’m still going to be keeping my TX660 and Zoom F2, but it’s a solid system with a lot of great features, so stay tuned for that video!
You know I like Sony, so...
Haha, despite my many Canon products, I do like my little Sony recorder.
Battery will obselet
Not sure what you’re trying to say…
