Very helpful video. Don't forget that if you live overseas as an American and earn money you still have to file a U.S. tax return. Also, if you have money in foreign bank accounts that reach a certain threshold you will be required to report that to the government here in the U.S. as well.
You are amazing! I'm doing all of this for my packing. I'm moving to Germany for my MSc in a month and boy I'm starting to feel the pressure of doing this efficiently.
This is so helpful! I was really bummed about having to bring fewer purses than I would like but now I see I can use them as organization and storage within my checked luggage and carry-on!
If you move to South Korea to teach I lived there for 3 years almost everyone is too big for their clothing!!! Especially shoes if you are a size 8 (males a 6-7) or bigger bring as many pairs you can!! Also there are Daiso's (like a dollar general or dollar tree) where you can buy containers like she is showing I packed a few kitchen items and regretted wasting the space instead of space for shoes because when you do find shoes luckily I was able to squeeze into a size 8 Korean which is smaller than a US 8 and I was also able to fit into one size clothing or size XL or L at Zara and H&M and only the major cities have those stores other wise your best bet is a one size store!! I'm normally a size S/M back in U.S. but Korean clothing runs really small because the people are really thin there (If you're over 150 pounds I would pack as much clothing as you can especially warm clothing it's expensive for jackets/winter gear/don't pack scarves they sell them everywhere) . Also DO NOT bring electronics and especially don't plug anything in without a transformer my laptop got fried in 2 days of being there and had to buy an IPAD which was double the US price Apple products tend to work Ipads/Iphones but I wouldn't bring anything you'd regret getting blown out. You can get toothpaste whitening kind at a store called Watsons they also have more foriegn products there also these stores are only located in bigger cities (Seoul, Busan, Gwangju etc) if you get a job in the country you will have to travel to do some shopping to major cities.
Excellent video, very thorough. Thank you so much! 😊 . ETA: For liquids I unscrew the top of the product, take a piece of plastic (like seran wrap), place it over the opening and then screw the top back on. Also, a more affordable alternative to the packing cubes are mesh laundry bags. Packs of them are very inexpensive on Amazon. Not exactly see same as packing cubes, but still really helpful.
i went through so many videos, most of which only said things like "save money, renew your passport, get a visa!" which isn't what i needed. your video is actually helpful and really calmed down my packing anxiety. thank you.
Most of traveller suggests to purchase a new winter jacket abroad. The thing is we usually save bucks when we study/workandholiday abroad and even sometimes cut budget on food so purchase any new winter jacket is the least we could think of. So far i never see any people make videos about winter jacket tips except we need to buy new one.
I am about to move abroad and have a big, padded, winter parka in my case. I've put it in a cheap packing cube and think that way it will be smaller than if I lay it on top of my clothes (but I am also yet to decide the best way to pack it!)... may end up lying it on top! I think vacuum bags would be a great idea for winter coats though (I find all these kinds of things are cheaper on Amazon and Ebay than from stores). Hope you find a solution too :)
I think you should decide which option is best for you depending on the size and material of your winter jacket. If it's bulky with a think material compressing it with a vacuum bag might work well. Though it may add more to your weight (and maybe fees), depending on how much it might cost you to purchase it abroad could be worth it. I'm also not opposed to just laying things on top if I can make them fit. If you haven't already do a 'test pack' and see what works best for you!
Wear your winter jacket to the airport - that way you can take it but it doesn't take up room in your luggage. Once you're through security you can then try to pack it into your carry on if you don't want to wear it on the plane.
I appreciate your video thank you. I really liked your tip to put things in your shoes. I've done my fair share of traveling and it never occurred to me to put things in my shoes.
just brought a travel kit bag was perfect size bag and came with good shampoo and conditioner with body was Mouthwash even small good side too along with also tooth brush and toothpaste it just only 6 bucks at Walmart it came in nice small gray bag :)
This is super helpful, thank you! Do you have any tips for organizing jewelry so that they don't get all tangled up and small things like earrings and ring don't get lost? Thank you!
Hi Hara, really? Try this link directly: www.viayuri.com/traveler-resources/ Let me know if you have any issues. If you do, I can email it to you directly. Just let me know :)
Currently as long as a liquid container bottle is under 3oz., you can fit as many as you'd like in ONE quart size bag per person. So I vary the size of the containers that I bring so I can fit more in one bag :)
Hi Kimberly. Thanks! I went through the EPIK program, which handles the public school teaching system in Korea. If you're planning on moving to Korea, that's the program I would start with:)
I don't have those space bags but I ironed down all of my clothes so that they take up at least a little less space Edit: even socks, all of my socks take up the space of 4 balled up pairs now!
You can bring approved liquids (like those for personal grooming) in a container that is 3oz. or less. They all just have to be carried in a clear quart sized bag. Hope that helps :)
This is by far the most helpful and efficient video i've seen. Thank you so much!
Wow, thanks so much ❤️

This is so helpful! I was really bummed about having to bring fewer purses than I would like but now I see I can use them as organization and storage within my checked luggage and carry-on!

Wow, that's so awesome to hear! Really thanks so much, I'm glad I could help :)
Haha, yeah I've thought about making a video on what I should NOT have brought too, so I think that's an awesome video for you to make :)

When you came to shoes, I went, “Yes!” I used them for socks mostly.
Haha! I definitely do that on regular trips when I pack.
Love the video, thanks! I bet you are a very organised teacher! Something I'm still working on haha. Thank you :)
