The Dive Lights are one of those items that are very handy even if you are not night diving. They are great to add color back in while doing under water photography, and can even be used as a signaling device above or below water. Here are just some of the different styles that you may come across.

Strobe lights can irritate your buddy on a night dive. Cheap lights will let you down. From a psychological aspect, 600 lumen or higher is my preferred choice. Twist lock lights can lock up at depth. Lights with a wide head lamp are difficult to place in a rubber loop if you want to stow backup lights on webbing. If you carry more than one light, my suggestion is to mix it up with rechargeable and disposable batteries.

Can you do a video about traveling with dive equipment. What can you check in luggage like a dive knife for instance and proper way to setup gear for travel and tips, etc.

Hello Caleb Mcelhaney, Tovatec make some great lights as well. They also have a Camera/Light package that is one unit.

are the LED lights okay to run above water. I have heard that they over heat but it might just be they are used to halogen lights.
Halogen Lights are more likely to over heat. I use LED's all the time on land, and have yet to overheat one.
I dont see any high lumen lights. In dive shops I see small lights with 2500 and even some with 3500 lumens. Are these just sales overkill? I just dove monterey with about 3 foot visibility. it was dark green soup. I had a small 1200 lumen and a tiny backup. Would a 3500 lumen make that much difference? Its not too much larger and can mount on back of hand.
Sometimes more lumens can be bad, depending on the turbidity in the water. The great news is, we now have better light technologies in this day and age, compared to what we use to have. This means more power, for a cheaper price.
High quality torches with lots of lumens,time,depth, material, focus and wide beam are expensive. You either got one or non of these qualities that's why cheap.

There are 2 that I use. One is by Mares, www.mares.com/shop/us-US/diving/accessories/eos-goodman-handle.html, and the other one is by Comfort Zone Scuba comfortzonescuba.com/lights/. The one in the video is from Comfort Zone Scuba. Both are reasonably priced, and will fit a full range of lights.

Can you change a light with the regular bulb into a LED bulb
Roy Atkins It just depends on the manufacturer and the model. Some have replacement heads and some have replacement bulbs.
So do you know if it can be transformed into LED
According to Princeton Tec, they have stopped making replacement heads for the Shock Wave, and are only selling the Shock Wave LED now. Our direct line to them is 1-800-257-9080. They may be able to direct you in a different direction. Hope this helps.
I use an Metslsub Led 5000 lumen, magnet switch. Produced 2009, still good. Burntime is 180 minutes. Backup is Hollis Led 1500, 2 O ring seals. In Norway cold dark waters i had too choose a strong light. I have had a few other lights before, but not sow exspensive than the Metslsub, the all got saltwater in by the cord, because of the everytime movement of the cord. The weak points on divelights canister is the cord, in too the lamp and out from the battery. Movement all the time on the cord makes the weak points. O, ring seals lights, if you maintaine them right, they are long lasting. Remember to clean the orings, grease them often.
Talking about the bulb used in different divelights, isnt HID lamps the "new" ting after Led now?
I've always been a fan of Hollis lights. And yes HID is the new thing.

Hey Roy. Depending on the model of light, some (but not all) will have a replacement head that just screws on the light housing itself. I currently don't have any Princeton Tec lights in stock for a DEMO, or I would be happy to make you a video.
