    Always trust your gut. Going for long-term trust over short-term money is something you don't see often in the world on TH-cam or any field tbh. Kudos to you, you've earned so much more respect.

    I have so much respect for Annemarie. As a 32 year-old woman who already takes every influencer recommendation with a grain of salt, it feels great knowing that someone is thinking ethically about what they advertise.
    I think most people will see an influencer recommendation and say, “does this product or service make sense for MY life and MY needs?” But to also have to parse out motivations and expectations on top of that when you’re not given even half of the needed information is impossible. And everybody has those couple items that are just “meh” that they bought from a Tik Tok/Instagram ad that may end up going to a landfill … that I’m trying to avoid.
    It’s not stupid to think about these things. It’s smart. And in a capitalist world where everyone is trying to sell you something while simultaneously trying to make ends meet … it’s a hard choice to make and I appreciate a TH-camr who talks about this stuff.

    I respect the authenticity. Based on my experience I skip the ads section of influencers vlogs because I know that it's there for them to make money. And because of that, the stuff that they are saying about that certain product might not be true. It doesn't stop me from watching them especially if the content is good! I feel like people nowadays know to take those sponsorship ads with a grain of salt.

    Definitely stand your ground…it’s always easy to tell when an influencer is promoting a product they don’t genuinely believe in (not to say it’s a bad thing..gotta pay the bills) but you lose a certain degree of trust with ur audience (almost like selling out) ..so although ur decision may affect ur channel in some ways…you gain/maintain so much more in quality and viewer loyalty! Respect 🙌🏼

    Tbh, I don't take sponsorships seriously. I literally skip over them. It's not a matter of trust or distrust; I'm just not on TH-cam or any other platforms looking for something to buy. So the minute someone says's "thank you to the sponsor of this video..." I toggle and skip. I think a lot of people do hence the "most replayed" section is often right after a sponsorship bit. I wish I had something deeper to say, but I accept people are making a living and move on.

  • @idaeja
    @idaeja ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I think you seem like SUCH an impressive person, because most creators would just take the deal without second-guessing it, but at the end of the day, people have responsibilities for making their own decisions, and once in a while, it's okay for you to make a decision that benefits you without being overly protective of everyone else.

    I’ve been preaching in my favorite TH-camrs comment section about not taking betterHelp sponsorship because the company is so shady and does so much harm to the mental health community. So to hear you speak on this makes me happy to follow someone so committed to being conscious of their impact/imprint.

  • @llelmo81

    I usually skip ads/sponsorship sections when they come on, unless I know and trust the influencer (from what they show/say at least) that they genuinely like products they promote. I think as viewers we understand why influencers take on board sponsorships and am happy they are able to get cool sponsorships, but at the same time I'm personally also very supportive that you've decided to take the ethical route:) Sponsorships or not I will continue supporting! hwaiting

    Appreciate the authenticity since although I don't always buy products that youtubers talk about, I'm sure that for someone that might purchase those products it helps to actually see the influencer use the product and review it honestly rather than just sponsoring it for the money.

  • @iammarieadams
    @iammarieadams ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Same happened to me while working in HR and realizing that a brand that usually influencers talk about is the worst to their employees, barely pays on time, fire them while on leaves, people literally have nobody in the company to directly talk to... That makes me thing a lot anytime I see my favorite creators talk about them so very well done. We hispanic say no todo el dinero se toma... ¨Not every penny is worth to take¨.

  • @AkachiGP

    I think viewers can decide on their own if they want to get the product or not so TAKE THE SPONSORSHIPS, treat it like its TV, read the ad and go back to spreading positivity. Don't overthink it, youtube is free making content isnt, and you dont need to explain anything to anyone or feel some kind of way for reading an ad, because youtube is still going to place some weird ads on your video anyway.

    • @Reynaorendain

    • @Socialling
      @Socialling ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I disagree. If you feel ambivalent then yeah maybe show it and be honest about what you like and don’t like (but be fr sponsor have to approve the content so they might not approve anything that’s not 100% fangirling the product). If you feel convicted enough that this isn’t a product you want your image associated with then don’t promote it. It’s more than about the money. It also about your brand. Can’t let short term quick bucks affect long term business/branding.

    Don't take sponsorships from brands you don't believe in or in their products. As a growing TH-camr and influencer, your credibility is important. It might seem not to matter now but long term, it'll impact your brand. Your audience is your greatest asset. Don't take products that will skew their trust in you. Build a strong confidence for you in them now. It'll be beneficial to you long term.

  • @jem3122

    To answer your question, when i watch a creator and they have a sponsership its SUPER important to me that its brand they could stand by even in a few months or years to come. For example, i brought a standing desk because a creator had a great experience with them, now 3-6 months later, my desk is still going strong and i'm proud to stand by that creator and be exposed to the brand. Another thing is i want to be able to put my dollar to the creator espiecally if they are a POC because i value those things. So at the end of the day their honesty about the company is important, so i am a happy customer and the creator gets a little coin to keep going with creating. You're the best Annemarie and i have so much much respect for you!

  • @iHaymong
    @iHaymong ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It's rare to have an influencer that actually cares about what they're putting out, so I greatly appreciate that you're even taking your moral compass into consideration. That being said, I think most people take influencer brand deals with a grain of salt. If someone is interested in something you're advertising, they probably already had interest in it and should do their own due diligence on whether or not they should actually purchase it. The company will market their product one way or another, so get that money, girl. The opportunities won't always be there.

  • @borysskowron

    I fortunately or not see every product that influencer promotes as something, that they do only to get paid. And there is nothing wrong about it, I don’t overthink it, I know it’s part of their job. Although there is something more influential in promoting a thing that this influencer actually use on daily basis, even if they’re paid for a long-term partnership.
    I think it’s great that you care about promoting something that may be not the greatest choice. It’s not only beneficial for your trust and your viewers wallets, but also forces the company to do better (and I’m telling that as a business owner and marketer).

    I like authenticity and sincerity in influencers. It's obvious when influencers are promoting a product without careful thought to it. Money is tight these days. With the economy, inflation, student loans, and the rise in USD value, it is always great if influencers show principle rather than greed. I think that is what makes a sustainable and long-term influencer as well.

    Integrity is key, I do a lot of collaborations and paid sponsorships for my foodie page and my photography page. And now TH-cam is a new journey which I’m still learning. Do you want to be able to gain the trust of your subscribers/followers. For my food page? I am always honest with the people who I collaborate with and get sponsorships with. I always tell them in writing that if I like it, I will post it if I don’t, I won’t. I tell them if they have an issue with that then they can find someone else. I have to like the product before I can endorse it. Yes there are some people that just do anything just for the money but not me. There are certain things that you shouldn’t overthink because nothing is perfect. Your grandmother is so sweet and knowledgeable. Hope to meet you one day when you come back to nyc. I would take an influencer's sponsored recommendation with a grain of salt. But then, there's some influencers that I trust more, who I would trust way faster.
    But I understand you fully and I have a similar philosophy in life. Better to have less but a cleaner conscience and just more inner peace and better sleep than having more. I fully stand by that.

  • @RyanKwon
    @RyanKwon ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't take sponsorships from creators seriously. Most of the time, the product/service being shown is mediocre. But also, a lot of time companies will cherry pick the items/services being sent so a creator's experience may not always dictate the viewer's experience. Like you mentioned, companies will also tend to put a deadline onto the content and imo having to make a decision on whether something is good or not with such a limited time to experience it is generally not enough time to make a thorough decision.

    I appreciate that you have integrity and don't sell out over a crappy product just for money. I think you're doing the right thing. Trustworthiness and integrity is worth more than all the money in the world. I'm actually disappointed seeing comments that tell you to just take the money. It goes to show who has morals and who doesn't.

    It wouldn’t say you’re overthinking because at the end of the day this is your job. and if your subscribers are purchasing faulty products that you recommend that’ll look bad on your part more than that company tbh.

    I watch ads when I am watching youtubers who I genuinely admire, respect and want to support. I also always give their videos a like. I have to be honest, I kind of stopped watching your videos after you moved to nyc but I find myself watching your videos again after you went back to your original style of videos. That is a video that I will watch ads on and give a like. I applaud you for your actions and I wish you the best. I edited the comment to say "take the sponsership"

    I could relate to you on this topic.. although im a micro content creator I still am very careful of what brands I want to work with.. because whatever brand you decide to work with falls under your personal brand/image. It’s a lot more worth it to wait to partner with brands that you connect with versus just a paycheck. I connect with you a lot, also live with my parents at 28.

    I don’t think I’ve ever purchased anything because of a sponsored video. I understand that it’s part of the job, BUT I think it’s shady when people have brand deals where they obviously don’t use the products. I’ve notice this primarily with tech (like phones and laptops)

    I think - we can definitely tell when an influencer is actually passionate about the product vs doing it for the sake of their job. Great job for going with your gut though! :)

    I turned 21 during the pandemic and made a conscious decision that it was time to move out and live on my own. I worked through the end of my college career and saved up enough to pay rent for the first time at 22.
    I’m 24 now and I’ve lived on my own for almost a year, to each their own but I wouldn’t trade my independence for the world

    I always hear that I “think too much” but most ppl just don’t think enough… The way you carry yourself and your digital brand will outlast any faulty product. Stick to your values and enforce your boundaries. Might not be a big deal for others to take the sponsorship, but it clearly is a big deal to you. Think on it on your own, consult ppl close to you, then make a decision. If you come to regret your decision, choose differently next time. :) it’s okay to make mistakes too. Love your channel

    nahhh i totally agree with you ! ik sponsorships are a part of the job but i think it’s telling which brands ytbers works with. i really value when my faves try and really f with the product theyre talking about. i think u are doing the right thing even tho it could bite the wallet at first at least you’ll feel like you’re doing the right thing and listened to your intuition🫶🏼
