I recall sitting in the stands of my hometown, Lakeview Oregon, as the rodeo color guard came screaming into the arena on horseback with that song blaring. Same fairgrounds I shared a VERY drunken hand shake with Mr. Chris Ledoux. As much as I know nostalgia won't save us, it sure feels good to reflect back 30 years ago. I get goose bumps every time I hear Foster and Lloyd's music and imagine perfection in that great, proud state of Texas 150 years ago :)

I was playing the first Foster & Lloyd CD when I was a jock on KWYO-AM in Sheridan, Wyoming, and I probably would never have gotten into singing if I hadn't heard the first version of Texas in 1880 by Foster & Lloyd. The song has stuck in my head as one of the best melodies and one of the truest country songs I've ever heard.

I first heard this song on Foster & Lloyds self titled release on cassette and instantly fell in love with this song, I wore that cassette out! That whole album was awesome! Not a bad song on it!

If you're into true western history you should read "Empire of the Summer moon" or "The log of a cowboy" one is of the struggle of Texans vs The Commanche or more accurately settlers vs Commanche. And the other is the rememberances of a cowboy who climbs his way up to be a "cowman" and later a large rancher. Or read "Bob Fudge"
