Well with that one, great size shad I must say, going to enjoy lovely shad curry, Durban style. Yes, I am watching you guys fishing at my used-to-be favorite place many years ago, but now I am checking you guys from all the way out from Thailand. Love it. Good old Durbs, from a born and bred Durban boy.
Now The Brown lagoon. It used to be blue and teaming with fish, like Perch, Stumpie, Rock-Salmon, Grunter, Kingfish and more, on incoming tides, long, long ago. Back in 1964, an old Zulu (80+) man told me there used to be crocodiles in the lagoon as well. 🙂 Nice catch. 🐟
In the early 80's at "Reunion Centre Bank" that is all we caught....but then there were also very few fishermen, as the "Coffee Grinder" wasn't available for every Tom, Dick and Harry to call himself a fisherman. If one couldn't fish with a "ballrace" one was not a fisherman! So, yes we caught these large shads as young boys as a norm back in the early, mid to late 80's. 😊

Partially orrect. It's what's called a "Blue Shad" here in SA. Very rare in recent years. What we call the plank Shad now. In the early, mid to late 80's, as youngsters we caught only these "Blue Shads" at the old, original "Reunion Centre Bank." This before the "Coffee Grinders" came about, there were very few fishermen who fished only with the "ballrace." Now any "Tom, Dick & Harry" with a "coffee grinder or multiplier" and with expensive, fancy named rods, reels, bags, boots and fishing clothing calls himself a fisherman. 😊 So yes, this is a "Blue Shad" here in SA.

Fisherman’s tale is always bigger than it is, uncle Bobby catching a shad on a grunter trace
It's a pity it wasn't returned to the sea.
