Great stuff! I'm really interested in off grid living and sustainability. Would love to be able to do this at my place. Thanks for making and sharing these videos. Shellie

Thanks for watching. Hopefully you can see how it works a bit better in the next part

Nice one Andy. Thanks for the shout out. 👍🏻 I was reading an article about how difficult it is to recycle the solar panels. It said that the precious metals in them are so enmeshed in them that at the moment it’s uneconomical to recycle them and they mostly go to landfill. Well, thanks to you, there’s four that won’t be. Well done, brilliant as usual. 😊

They were perfect for this practice run. You can get a panel now that would do the same as these 4 ! but not for 60 euros.

If you have a charge controller that can take up to 100V open circuit, you could wire two strings in parallel of two panels per string. That would halve the current to the charge controller vs four panels in parallel.
Then you will minimize resistive losses from the panels to the charge controller.

Thanks for your comment, in future episodes I do adjust some things. However the two considerations for me specifically are that 4 panels all with different angles and critically shading at different times. Also in the winter it's is possible but unlikely I could just exceed 100v with these panels. 👍👍

Hi Andy, I understand the principle of what you are doing but as for being able to do what you are dong no chance.
Will be watching with great interest as the roof on our home is in the right elevation for solar panels.
    Take care Andy.
    Cheers, Huw

Thanks for watching Huw. Solar is the way forward if you have the right location.

Hi Andy, have you looked at the sunology system with the batteries built it. Almost seems too good to be true but we’ve been looking at them

I don't know that make. It's probably a good idea to really have a look at what kind of system you want. Email me on the address on my about page and we can have a chat about it.

"Living off grid is it possible": Spoiler, yes. Tons of people do it including me. Poking at your funny title.
Why are you using a combustion generator when you have a far more efficient and clean energy you can pull from the grid when you need to supplement solar power? It's great to have a backup generator when all else fails, but your doing yourself and the environment no favors by running a generator when the grid electricity is far cleaner to supplement with.

Thanks for your support. I understand your point but I don't want to pay for a standing charge when I am never there. In future episodes I convert the generator to LPG which is much cleaner. 👍👍
