- After a short hiatus, we’re back and kicking off with a new mini-series on teaching skills. Join us on Friday (10th June) at 4pm BST when TEFL Org tutor Carl will be talking to us all about teaching and developing listening skills. We’re sure there will be takeaways for both newly qualified and experienced EFL teachers, so share with friends and colleagues.

This year I have included all 4 skills into materials covered for my esl students that come to me for extra lessons as they are not doing well at school. I have seen an improvement in each student that was not achieved by just focusing on grammar for school. The students have also now started to have an interest in the language and are asking questions
Amazing, Mandy - it's great to see them engaged! What age group(s) do you teach? - Alan
@TEFLorg Hi Alan, I teach mostly middle school ages 10 to 13. I have recently taken some elementary students and have implemented this strategy with them from day one to set some foundational skills.
It was such a SUPERRR webinar Mr. Carl as all your previous ones before. I stayed tuned in from begining to end really hard to escape out. God bless YOU for your great labor. Regards from Trujillo - Peru.
I'm currently doing the TEFL course and find these concrete examples very helpful. The only question I have is, how can I ask students to tell me the gist of something they haven't heard yet? Thanks in advance.
I hope you are enjoying the course, Adriana!
You can use concept checking questions (CCQs) to clarify and make sure learners understand before moving forward. Depending on the length of the audio, I normally split it into smaller sections and/or repeat parts. A long audio clip can be overwhelming, especially for lower levels, so it's important to establish what you want them to get out of it e.g. any specifics such locations, dates, times, etc. and get them to pre-empt what they think will or could happen
