I don't know what the dance is that you do in some videos but I love it. It looks like 1 part martial arts, 1part pizza dough tossing and 1 part Uma Thurman dancing in Pulp Fiction......LOVE IT!
Michael Stipe said in an interview this comes from that southern phrase, people say it when disappointing things happen or they get frustrated, etc. Always loved the song. You are both great, just subbed.
This song is about unrequited love. More specifically about Michael Stipe's homosexual feelings toward someone who is not gay, when he himself was confused about his own sexuality.
A wonderful alt music track 🤗 A love song, it's about a man who loses his cool and says too much and now stands to lose the woman he loves😪 Good reaction and hand dance Enoma 😀
I took this song to literally mean that someone is losing faith...losing their religion. Losing faith in God. I have always took this song to mean that. Of course, I suppose you could look a this song in another way [like losing your temper?]. But for me, that does not sit right.
Namaste enoma. Kirti i think you are the closer with the idea of frustration. Stipe is from the “Bible bIelt” of USA, think it is about his difficulties coming out as gay to family. This song is from before he came out publicly.

I was 13 when I fell in love with these guys :) , forever one of my favorites
I really love you guys. You actually listen.
Losing my religion is a common saying in the south in America. Michael Stipe is from Atlanta. You were spot on with its meaning.
One of the greatest songs of all time
This is my favorite song. It’s perfect!

Losing my religion is not meant literally. It is a southern saying for losing ones temper.
Or losing your faith in how life is going at the moment.

80's R.E.M. on IRS records is where the real magic is. Their best era, imo.
Pretty Persuasion, Don't Go Back To RockVille, Life and How To Live It, Fall On Me, Radio Free Europe, Moral Kiosk, Catapult, etc, etc.
To me, it was about young Men's Angst. Feeling alone with all of your feelings while listening to this song for me.
Humbly,
Losing your religion is a American Southern term meaning getting very angry
