  • Swami Sarvapriyananda conducts a Q&A after his talk is based on the 'Advaita Makaranda' - The Nectar of Non-duality - of Sri Lakshmidhara Kavi.
    • The Honey of Non-Duali...
The text points to our present experience - the experience of the ordinary soul - and shows how the highest truth is revealed even there, if only we look. As Swami Vivekananda said, “Don’t seek God, just see Him.” The Advaita Makaranda teaches us to see the Truth, here and now. Translation by Swami Atmarupananda: www.amazon.com...

I remember Swamiji once mentioned about a very Senior Scholarly Monk to whom he went to ask a Vedantic query & The Monk replied 'Now it's all gone, I can't remember' & immediately thereafter said 'Let it go its task is done'
The questions are always on our side who sees this material manifestation as a mirage (false superimposition) appearing on a desert however the Enlightened ones sees this world as a waves (water) arising out of ocean,(Brahman all along the one dimensional reality)
& this arising and falling only appears under ignorance, in reality the ocean is calm quiet peaceful & ever blissful
It's The light , The Self of Consciousness.

It is only because we have agreed to value A.I. that A.I. is "valuable". I will always appreciate the art of human beings more precisely because human beings produced them, sacrificed to make them, and infused them with subjective meaning(even if the meaning isn't apparent to the viewer or reader), not merely the appearance of meaning via algorithmic precision. A.I. cannot make a Zen painting until it breathes with human lungs and paints with a human arm. Refuse to be dazzled by the mirage. Commit to LOVE and COMPASSION, which includes loving artists and writers as beings buzzing with aliveness that overflows

  • @mahAnanda-
    @mahAnanda- ปีที่แล้ว

    Summary of Reasoning:
    1. The self is the source of true and lasting happiness, independent of external circumstances.
    2. Consciousness plays a fundamental role in the measurement and manifestation of physical phenomena.
    3. Integrated Information Theory suggests that the self is the reason behind the known and unknown aspects of reality.
    4. General relativity highlights the interconnectedness of all entities and phenomena.
    5. Advaita Makaranda emphasizes the illusory nature of both the dream state and the wakeful state.
    6. In the dream state, one perceives a reality that is ultimately revealed as illusory upon awakening.
    7. The wakeful state, though seemingly stable, is also subject to the play of appearances and is considered illusory.
    8. These examples demonstrate the transient and deceptive nature of perceived reality.
    9. Neurophysiological differences, conscious experiences, memory, time perception, and the occurrence of lucid dreaming do not negate the illusory nature of the dream and wakeful states.
    10. From an Advaitic perspective, both the dream state and wakeful state are ultimately equally unreal, inviting individuals to discover the unchanging essence of awareness that transcends these transient experiences.

It is difficult to answer questions in spirituality using rationality. For many of us, the answers are never as clear and convincing as the answers we got in say, a basic math text book.
The answers seem plausible, or may feel mumbo jumbo. This is because we have all been conditioned through the years by the education system to get 100% rational answers. Start with axioms stemming from daily experiences, build theorems based on these axioms, then answer reality based on these theorems.
One way out is to trust the guru and his teachings get conditioned into a new learning and living. Trust your brain plasticity. This approach will work.
The other way i.e., instead of starting from spirituality and then rationalizing it, is to start the journey of spirituality from rationality. Then comprehending spirituality will be far easier. Answers become simpler. Many of these questions do not even arise.

Seems to me you could look at it like this: The entire phenomenal universe, time, space, etc.-it’s all just a story that we have been told and believe. The ISKON person wanted to debate more than ask a question. Wrong venue, wrong opponent. Artificial intelligence isn’t new, but its capabilities have only recently reached the point where there is cause for concern. In essence we seem to be worried that AI has gotten too intelligent and may now challenge the human being in the ways Swamiji talked about.

Swami, I have no quibble with your arguments, but I think you overstate what ChatGPT and its ilk are and can do. They just algorithmically recombine elements that have been created by humans. The sense in which they can be said to 'understand' or 'create' is extremely impoverished compared with what we do. Even if you don't have a talent for poetry, you are still doing something that ChatGPT cannot do--something far more sophisticated.
There's an additional, deeper question there about the relationship between consciousness and mental operations such as creativity. We are embodied, conscious and self-conscious. ChatGPT is none of these, so even if it was afforded parity in cognitive power, it would still lack key dimensions in producing humanlike creative though and in understanding the non-grammatical meaning/intent behind symbols.

*Null Hypothesis:* The philosophy of Advaita, as presented in the Advaita Makaranda, does not accurately reflect the nature of reality.
    *Refutation of the Null Hypothesis:*
    1. Objective Example 1: Happiness and Self
The null hypothesis might argue that the self is not the source of happiness or the reason behind all actions. However, introspective experiences and psychological studies consistently demonstrate that true and lasting happiness arises from within oneself, independent of external circumstances. The self, as understood in Advaita, is posited as the eternal source of happiness, providing a direct example that supports the philosophy.
    2. Objective Example 2: Perception and Illumination
The null hypothesis may challenge the idea that all things are illuminated by the perception of the observer, which is the self. However, the field of quantum mechanics suggests that the observer plays a fundamental role in the measurement and manifestation of physical phenomena. The famous double-slit experiment exemplifies how the act of observation influences the behavior of particles, indicating that the observer's consciousness is intimately linked to the observed reality.
    3. Objective Example 3: Self as the Reason for the Known and Unknown
The null hypothesis might reject the notion that the self is the reason for both the known and unknown aspects of reality. However, Integrated Information Theory (IIT), a theoretical framework in neuroscience, posits that consciousness is the intrinsic nature of the universe. According to IIT, the self, or the subjective experience of consciousness, is the reason behind the informational properties of both known and unknown aspects of reality, providing a scientific perspective that aligns with Advaita's philosophy.
    4. Objective Example 4: All in the Self
The refutation of the null hypothesis can be further supported by considering the philosophical concept that all is in the self. In the field of physics, the theory of general relativity describes how space, time, and matter are interconnected, forming a unified fabric known as spacetime. This interconnectedness suggests that all entities and phenomena exist within a singular framework, akin to the Advaitic understanding that all is in the self.
Additionally, it is worth noting that Advaita Makaranda emphasizes the illusory nature of both the dream state and the wakeful state. Just as a rope may appear as a serpent or a mirage creates the illusion of a lake in the desert, Advaita posits that the dream state and the wakeful state are also products of a similar illusion, known as "vivarta." In the dream state, one perceives a reality that seems vivid and tangible but is ultimately revealed as illusory upon awakening. Similarly, the wakeful state, though seemingly more concrete and stable, is also subject to the play of appearances and is considered illusory in the Advaitic framework. These examples illustrate the transient and deceptive nature of perceived reality, supporting the Advaitic view that the true nature of reality lies beyond the realms of both dreaming and waking.
By incorporating these examples, we can further strengthen the refutation of the null hypothesis and highlight the Advaita Makaranda's teachings about the illusory nature of the dream state and the wakeful state, emphasizing the concept of "vivarta" where the cause (self) produces the effect (perceived reality) without itself undergoing any change.
both the dream state and wakeful state are equally unreal, even when considering the neurophysiological differences, conscious experiences, memory and time perception, and the phenomenon of lucid dreaming
In Advaita philosophy, the understanding of the illusory nature of both the dream state and wakeful state does not negate the differences experienced within these states but rather highlights their ultimate unreality from an absolute perspective. While there are neurophysiological differences, conscious experiences, memory and time perception variations, and phenomena like lucid dreaming, Advaita suggests that these experiences are all part of the play of appearances and are ultimately unreal in the sense that they are subject to change and impermanence.
From an Advaitic standpoint, the dream state and wakeful state are both considered products of the same underlying illusion, where the self (the cause) manifests the perceived reality (the effect) without undergoing any intrinsic change. Just as a mirage appears like a lake in the desert, the wakeful state appears as a seemingly solid and tangible reality, while the dream state presents a different set of experiences and perceptions. However, Advaita holds that both states are temporary and transient, lacking true substantiality.
While there may be distinctions in the neurophysiological aspects, conscious experiences, memory, time perception, and even the occurrence of lucid dreaming, Advaita encourages recognizing the impermanence and inherent unreality of these states. It suggests that the true nature of reality lies beyond the play of appearances, in the formless, unchanging awareness that underlies all experiences.
Therefore, from an Advaitic perspective, the argument would be that despite the variations and differences observed within the dream state and wakeful state, both are ultimately equally unreal when considered in the context of their transient and illusory nature. Advaita invites individuals to explore the deeper reality that transcends these states and discover the unchanging essence of awareness that lies at the core of their being.

I think AI is a good kick to sleeping tamasic humans who do not want to make the effort required towards evolving themselves out of this mind state, which they think is very high, towards self realisation, rather they prefer to hold on to thier mental gymnastics, making silly video games,or halfhearted attempts at pretentious repetitive art poetry and calling it creative, the earth is crumbling around them, but they continue with childish wars and whatevr and not taking up the spiritual responsibility ,not willing to give up thier little luxuries and pleasures for a greater higher truth,so AI is showing them😄😄

Maybe that AI is after all not more intelligent than the intelligence that created it, but appears so because outs consecrated application sans any distractions of the mind which waylays it in humans . Maybe !
