imo the phone booth scene from 'be mine' is very telling. arguably the most important scene, the core of their conflict. they're not on the same page, they hold different worldviews. junji's been singing "let go of the fear" "get yourself out of this wall right now" but rie in this moment is unreachable behind the glass. one way to read that is he's possibly not ready to be out and open yet? we also have the sunset in the background symbolising the beginning of the end.
when junji steps on the paper cranes (a symbol of patience) as he leaves, it speaks volumes about the state of his mind. they're in warmer clothing now meaning some time has passed since they first met, so his frustration has probably built up over time and now there's nothing rie can say that will make him stay.
in 'because', rie is no more inside the phone booth. every shot of him singing is OUTSIDE of it. which leads me to believe that after the fight, he did some thinking (all the flashbacks) and realised that no, his fear is not worth losing such a beautiful thing over. so he decided to accept this part of himself and is now willing to fully surrender himself to love.
when they run into each other at the pool where they'd shared their first kiss (past - pool scene #2 with rie in the green shirt, present - pool scene #1 with the blue sweater), it's like they're destined to cross paths again. they head to the cafe/laundromat (a very public place and the actual end scene of their storyline) to talk things out. junji reaches out tentatively while singing "it doesn't have to be perfect". rie's tense because this is all still new to him, but he still doesn't pull away from junji's touch or kiss. he even sings "look around, there's nothing to worry about, i just know it, i’m not afraid even if i lose it all, if i become you and you become me".
the way i see it, this is not a breakup song. the lyrics and overall tone read as very hopeful. rie's "i just want to be your world" is the answer to junji's "baby will be mine", even if it took some pain and tears to get there.

Wow very detailed but I got something else from the video. Sorry don’t know the boys names yet so my sorry in advance. So boy #1 has been making the cranes and started dating boy #2 but Rie has the cranes in a box. It’s established that boy#1 and Rie are friends or know each other, so I think Rie had a crush on him until he got a boyfriend (boy#2) and boy#3 ask him out , but he kept the cranes in a box to do the whole wish think when u have enough but started falling for the new boy #3 and he found the box while there dating that he liked his friend and fighting ensues
the line "call me by your name" (or the full line from the movie: call me by your name and i'll call you by mine) is based off of something plato wrote, the idea that humans were originally created with 2 faces and 4 arms and legs etc but then got separated and have to look for their missing half now, so it ties into the whole destiny theme in because!
also the fandom is kinda on the fence about what the actual timeline of the mv is and so someone asked rie during a fancall if it's a happy ending or sad ending and he said it's a secret 💀
Like for real in the reaction video there was so much chaos 💀😭 the snake, Nine belting the song at parts, Yoojung literally being the third member of Differently Alike, Junji just quietly smiling and grinning in the back 😩 I mean….. going back to the MV after that statement. My mind cannot focus between the vocals, the visuals of the MV and Nine’s snake arm 😭

I'm so late but so glad to find this clarification of "call me by your name"!! Like maybe there's a hook with the mlm theme of the mv and the book/movie, but I honestly think the original source is more important.
Obviously the film/book made the saying popular, but the lyrics “in the end we become one, call me by your name” it seems like a direct reference to Plato’s symposium where he describes people originally breaking apart into multiple beings and they spend their life searching for their “other half” I.e their soulmate. I mean they were talking Freud during libidO era so it’s clear they’ve been very interested in theory and psychology in their works so this totally makes sense.

I know Rie said he will tell us the storyline, but one I’ve heard seems to be: Junji wants to be an “out” couple and Rie wants to keep it private and just as it is. And Junji throwing the origami birds is a symbol for his lack of patience and his frustration because origami swans symbolize being patient.
I actually think that the ending scene in JUNJI'S mv is the actual ending to their story and Because is Rie's POV which tells us that relationship is not all rainbows and unicorns but at the end they make up which is the ending scene in Be mine cause that blue sweater Rie is wearing the same in both the MV.

Love your reactions to OOO! 🥰 Your energy makes me so excited to rewatch lol. I really have been loving seeing all of the interpretations in comments on the video and on reactions. For me, I feel like Rie’s character is in love but much less self-confident than Junji’s character about it. So maybe Junji wants to just be very open about their relationship, while Rie maybe wants to keep it more private? I think what’s also interesting to me is that Rie’s MV uses much more private/nighttime settings (a bedroom, the inside of the apartment, an abandoned pool) while Junji’s uses more open/public/daylight settings (cafe, the yard/outdoors). So Junji definitely could feel upset like maybe Rie is ashamed to be with him or to be open about their relationship. Common trope in queer media of course (and an experience a lot of us queer folks deal with!). I also kind of like the fact that we can have so many interpretations as OOO truly live up to their concept of art pop!

And I'm so glad that you both share the same opinion regarding Call Me By Your Name, I absolutely despise that story so I can't say I loved seeing it referenced in the song but I love OOO and the song too much to care so they own that phrase now idc lol
Oh, also I'd just like to point one thing out, I know you mentioned on the teaser reaction that someone told you about the cranes meaning that if you fold 1000 you get a wish but I don't think that's what they're going for here. From my interpretation, given that cranes are animals that mate for life and symbolize longevity in Korea, I believe the paper cranes are meant to represent their relationships, and how they build and navigate them, how strong those relationships are. For example Yoojung and KB have very few cranes that are made out of I think candy wrapper, and even though they're crudely made Yoojung clearly loves folding them, he puts love and care into them, and KB handles them very gently when he picks them up, so even though their relationship has flaws and wasn't easy to build they were very caring and cautious in the process, they took the time to understand each other. Meanwhile Junji and KB have a ton of cranes made of origami paper, to me that implies they just went into a relationship without thinking too much about it and they thought that nothing could ruin it (like a good quality paper should hold, right?), like, Junji immediately ran after Rie despite having just seen him once and Rie agreed to meet him again without much thought so they just went with it, they wanted each other so much they didn't think to truly know each other, they just wanted to feel each other, and the way Junji just slapped and stepped on them when storming out plus Rie not picking them up tells me there was a lack of care put into what they built, that they just let themselves be entirely controlled by their emotions, so while we don't know yet why they fought I think their relationship was doomed to fail (even if temporarily) because they took it for granted, they didn't take the time to know one another. Then again this is all just my own interpretation of what we have so far.

I think it could be both, they seem to be very different people that are at very different stages in their lives, Junji is ready to commit while Rie still hasn't gotten himself figured out, but they both want this so bad they get blinded by their own desires, so I feel like understanding that it doesn't have to be perfect means seeing they dove too deep too quickly and that to make it work they must take it slow, they must be at the same wavelenght beyond just their desire to be together. Now whether that means they'll stay apart for a while to see how that goes or if they'll try again right away is unclear, for now at least. Though I do like to think that Rie looking behind the camera and not into it at the end of the MV implies Junji had the same thought he had of visiting the place where they shared a very intimate moment, which means they've finally met each other in the middle, but that's just my theory.

love your reactions as always!! especially to onlyoneof :) i love hearing you discuss all the theories! i saw another reactor say that maybe their misunderstanding was about commitment as well, with rie being shy or hesitant and junji taking that as him not being fully committed to the relationship. i had a theory similar to the one you both talked about, though i think the order may be different! my thought is that maybe the cafe scene happens first, while they're just starting their relationship. many people said that rie's face looked like a question here, like maybe he was unsure and was letting junji take the lead. in because, the first swimming pool scene looks like it's a continuation from the cafe scene, since rie is wearing that same blue checkered sweater. here, we see that junji is the only one in the pool while rie is walking along the edge. if the pool is a metaphor for love and commitment, then this would show that junji has already dived into the metaphorical deep end while rie isn't ready to join him yet. this makes me think that maybe the second pool scene at the end of the video happens after their fight and is when they make up and get back together. it kind of has that feeling of a reconciliation, where there's some distance between them and they're hesitant at first. then we see rie very intentionally taking off his shirt and them jumping into the pool together, which feels like rie showing junji that he's ready to show his love and fully commit now. this is followed by the underwater kiss where they're together and both reaching for each other this time, instead of the kiss in the cafe where rie is just receiving junji's affections. i wouldn't be surprised if i totally wrong though haha! anyway, much love to you both and thanks for the lovely reaction!! ♡

My current thought on the call me by your name: I have seen some online sources say that this term comes from the bible, a poem about intimacy. I am not familiar with the Bible, so I cannot be 100% certain. If being connected to JunJi's be mine's lyrics like "Allow me, to sculpt you however I want", "can I ruin you", etc., Rie's (character's) response "call me by yourself" is saying that he is willing to be "sculpted", to become one with JunJi ('s character). During Rie's recent YTB live, he pointed out the correspondence between 'because' and 'gaslighting', I am seeing that they may try to tackle taboo topics here again. I get what you are saying about the movie "call me by your name", and I think that may be what they are going after.

I'm copy pasting this from my comment on another reaction because I have too many feelings about this to be coherent more than once. 😂
I mean how many times can you say "Call Me By Your Name" without drawing comparisons. I never read the book, but if we ignore the grooming, the movie has themes around self acceptance, love, relationships that aren't easy, relationships that end with a lot of emotion involved, growth, coming of age. It was about first love, coming to terms with yourself, a sprinkle of religious shame, and about the vulnerability and the two people uplifting eachother as they find themselves. The relationship ended but they learned through it, and grew from it.
Here it feels like this relationship burned bright and fast from the kissing in the pool scene as a starting point to the relationship itself, all these beautiful private moments, but it burned out because Rie wanted to stay safe, but Junji was ready to be more open. All these moments of them together are flashing through Rie's mind as he reminisces by the pool where it started, and he's surprised by Junji coming out of the water. They go for coffee (the coffee place being where it really began in Junji's MV when he chased him down the street) and Junji reaches out to begin again with a more open Rie.
Then the continuing paper crane theme. I know from previous MV googling the cranes are symbolic of dedication, care, well wishes, longevity etc. Historically the idea was folding 1000 paper cranes would mean your wish would come true/you'd be healthy/have a long life, and people would do this as a well wish for others too, say if someone was sick. But I've see it as an act of devotion in love too, like the time itself to do all of it is a symbol of your care and love for the person they are for. So them making them together is an act of love, and Junji stepping on them is basically destroying their love for eachother. It just so nicely done.
After the other MVs I looked into what the phone booth could mean as well, and it gave me some uses of it in other media. It can be a symbol of loneliness, reaching out to contact someone while also separating yourself from them, or hesitating and not actually making that call, being afraid to reach out, being within reach of someone but separated. I feel like in Junji's MV the phonebooth scenes re with Junji outside it and Rie inside, and them being in two different places. But here Rie is outside the phonebooth and really expressing himself.
I'm choosing to believe this is a song about a brief break in a relationship rather than an end.
Anyway this concludes my essay. 😅Agh I just love this whole series so much.

Honestly I feel like the cmbyn reference mostly referred to a fleeting summer romance and the Greek myth it was inspired by (about soulmates and how they can reunite again through whichever form of love that is), I’m not the biggest fan of the movie/book either but I don’t mind ooo using more controversial references as long as they don’t adopt and romanticize the problematic elements. And I don’t think they did here cause they got rid of the entire age power dynamic first n foremost. (Kind of like how I’m not a huge fan of Freud but don’t mind ip1&2 being inspired by one of his theories cause they didn’t adopt anything I would’ve criticized. Or like how I’m NOT a fan of picassO but don’t mind they used his n dOra maar’s relationship because they did it in a way that doesn’t portray Picasso’s behavior in a positive light)
As for why they fought in my opinion both songs lead me to believe it’s a case of both of them loving each other but wanting different things out of the relationship and that’s why they ultimately were struggling. I still can’t tell if they broke up or if the cafe scene is them reuniting, but that’s the beauty of leaving it up to interpretation!
Honestly same because it doesn’t have the same dynamics in this song/mv so it’s not really off putting, hence the loud singing of that part lmao.
