Wow, smack in the middle of disco plus soft rock and late progressive rock. Punk hadn't really hit US yet and new wave was but a dream. 1976...these folks were busting at the seams to play
The cramps were part of the Bowery scene, which included all of the usual suspects by this time: the Ramones, the Talking Heads, a very raw Blondie, Television, Johnny, thunders, Heartbreakers, Richard, Hell and the Voidoids. The Fleshtones rehearsed across the hall from them

The tape's less-than-pristine technical sound helps make an already-sepulchral recording sound like it was recorded one cell over in a deeply subterranean dungeon... Prime (and Primal) music.

Hilly gave them their first audition @CBGB's, but Peter Crowley was the first to book them at Max's.They got tuned up and started getting louder, Lux was using the microphone more in his mouth and close up live by the time Nick Knox joined. These demos got his voice higher pitched and everything. By the time they got with Chilton they were on top of their game. To me the golden age. th-cam.com/video/fM4yY4L6mFM/w-d-xo.html
This was actually recorded at a top notch studio, Bell Sound. Richard Robinson took us in and got the crudest band in the world at their rawest. Richard was a hero from recordings the Flamin Groovies and Lou Reed, among others. He also took the first photos professional photos of the band.
Thanks Zoomusicgirl. Like a 'best of' their first two albums as recorded two years before their first releases. Love 'Can't Hardly Stand It' here. Very cool. Thanks again. Ps. Got any Shangri Las?

Very interesting: Lux still has not found his voice but Ivy has already made up her guitar playing!
her leads and solos make the band worthwhile th-cam.com/video/cYMsu0JhSwk/w-d-xo.html
His voice was better here.
@@gwugluud insane take, lolol. music is subjective, but damn i've never heard anyone say that!
I think it is because it is a demo recording.

what a nice dirty sound, better than all this polished radio shit nowadays
I came across this album but was very leary because all of 76 material I had heard was bad quality. This upload is the reason I bought this album.

excellent. bands like this suffer when in a studio. this is what it sounds like without clever technicians.

the tape speed recorded this too slow, that is why it sounds at a higher pitch.
i think you're right. it's all one semitone up.
Try to listen at 0.75.
Rui Ferreira it changes the speed not the pitch
🖤🔥🎸🔥🖤🐈🔥🖤
Who sings the first track?
Is it Lux singing?
Jason Regan ja my brader
Who else?!
His voice changed Aug. 16 1977 he became possessed by by a soul that was rejected by hell
Exacty. Who the fuck else???
Jason Regan yeah he just hadn’t found his vocal style yet
Are you sure that this is Miriam & not Balam (Gregorys sister) on drums
It's me, Miriam.
It's me. Recorded at Bell Sound, NYC.
