I love how Diana becomes this ethereal siren, calling out for love, while Daryl Hall is warning others to stay far away from her. It’s perfect♥️
Same here too. Both Daryl and Diana's voices mesh well together. They even recorded a song in 84 called "Swept Away" around the same time when Hall and Oates released "Big Bang Boom".

Yeah I agree. It makes kinda sinister. I played it for my buddy right after I found this song. He listened and afterwards looked at me and said " She's going to kill that man" 😂
It isn't just the vocals but how they mesh thematically. Dianna is talking about how empty her world is without her love interest, but Hall's lyrics warn the listener she's actually up to no good and trying to trap him up.

The mutually eerie vibe set by both songs, combined with "Maneater"'s saxophone solo, seem to set this song on the path to the soundtrack of the best '80s erotic thriller never made.

Great story
This is not only a masterpiece from a sonic POV, it actually enhances both these brilliant songs by telling a story of two lovers with very different perspectives on a relationship.
This makes me think of the story of Odysseus passing the sirens. The Supremes are trying to tempt any man without wax in his ears, while Hall and Oates is Odysseus' warning in their heads.
I love that analogy.

There's NO one close your genius in the Mashup genre. I graduated H.S. in 1977 then was a DJ late 80's to mid 90's. All of your choices are in my wheelhouse. I try to listen to these without seeing the creator, everytime I'm blown away it's YOU again. I'd love to hear the ones you never publish. Since you're a perfectionist I'm sure there's plenty of amazing work saved somewhere. Don't ever stop !!!

You know, after hearing this classic mashup, I'm hoping that both Diana Ross and both Daryl Hall & John Oates see this video (assuming they haven't already). this is so good it's haunting. Bill's work transcends the shallow catch-all category of "mashups." most of those are a fleeting entertainment. almost comical. Bill's work on a lot of these tracks - exemplified so well by Empty World / Maneater - actually manages to give new meaning to both of the original tracks while simultaneously preserving their individual and distinct charms. the affect in your mind is like hearing brand new music for the first time which somehow also feels completely familiar. pretty awesome experience.

Maneater was a Motown pastiche to begin with. Its fun to hear it mashed up with an actual Motown song. Reminds me of Darryl and Diana’s actual collaboration Swept Away.
This was a mashup that needed to be done, Thank You! Hall & Oates admitted "borrowing" the bassline of "My World Is Empty Without You" for "Maneater" decades ago.

You could make a pretty interesting lecture of this mashup:
It's like a contrast between two broken hearted people; one with previous, and mostly bad experiences in love (Daryl Hall); and another that just broke up with her first boyfriend and doesn't know how to handle it, since she doesn't still fully know how these things work (Diana Ross). And we just happen to hear their different experiences intwined through the song.
It's like both perspectives during a love breakup.
This mashup is the absolute apex of everything that lead up to Maneater and My World is Empty Without You.
The lyrics complementing each other creating such an implied complex context really did justice to Bill's natural talent. As if the listener was the man the woman is singing to, while the friend (Daryl Hall) tries to warn you of her true intentions.
This is so fucking brilliant I'm mind blown!!!!! Not to mention the mashup, in my opinion, is actually better than both original songs. Just like "Motley Crue and Steely Dan - Look Again” I think he actually made something better than the originals.

Somehow this mashup manages to be better than the two original, classic tracks, to the extent that I can no longer listen to them without choosing to put this on instead.
I've always said this was the combination of the two songs since the early 80s and ppl said I was crazy. This is not the only song 😅 !!!

The Supes are my all-time faves, and I'm astonished at how well these two songs mesh (mash?) I've been listening to it everyday now for over two weeks.
