      @@James-tl2tq Right. Honestly, I am very disappointed in Steve. You have many followers who look up to you. There has been no letter, video, etc. from him since the incident. We don’t need heavy details. I think it would have been helpful to just give a brief statement about confession, repentance, needed prayer, etc. To go silent since the situation is a bit disheartening. I sympathize with him and understand the pain he is going through personally, but some communication from him would have been so helpful.

      @@Pastor_GrantGreat point. Does anyone else find it odd that we're being told to be patient and let Trinity handle among themselves, but...most of what we do know has come not from Trinity, but from Phil Johnson? They are a church family and they have to protect themselves. It’s not a matter of clarifying the facts, it’s what it is wise to do at this point. @@mikelyons2831 I noticed the last part of your comment was a dig at reformed theology. No offense, but that's petty. There are plenty of Christian leaders who are not reformed who have done grievous sexual sins, but would you comment on their theological stance as well? I doubt that you would. Using Steve Lawson's fall as a springboard to attack reformed theology shows what's really gnawing at you inside. If you disagree with reformed theology, then bring an open Bible and a prayerful heart and show based on the content, context, and grammar of scripture why it is incorrect. The Word of God is our guide (2 Timothy 3:16-17, John 17:17). Without it, you'll resort to little jabs that are out of place in this situation. I pray you check your heart.

      Lawson, Platt, Driscoll, McDonald, others don’t want the “burden” of personally shepherding people or the accountability from internal and empowered elders. They want the large platform of a mega church and to be able to speak at outside events, travel, write books, and be celebrities at conferences. It’s inhuman. No one has that much time or energy or is that good. Something gives way. You can only sacrifice your wife, your kids, your sleep, accountability, your integrity so many times before an inevitable crash. This system of promoting celebrity super pastors is unhinged and unbiblical.

    Can you please explain how Steve Lawson being a church member in any way changed G3's responsibility if you didn't know prior anyway? What was the point of bringing this up? If he was paid to preach sermons (without being a pastor), but was also a member, that is even worse in my opinion. That means he was paid as a celebrity within the church, and was not just a preacher for hire from the outside. If you're being paid to congregate with other believers, is that not a massive blunder? I think this announcement would have been more respectable without bringing up that point, because it comes off as damage control, as if somehow him being an actual member of Trinity Bible church makes G3 look better?
    Furthermore, you're claiming you had to do fact checking to find out if Steve was a member, which makes it a completely moot point. So even if he wasn't a member, it's admitting you didn't know. So why bring it up at all? This comes across as wrangling over words.
    This also brings up the issue of parachurch organizations. So basically, whatever issue that comes up, you can just disown someone, and then claim it's some churches responsibility to deal with. Is this not dangerous spiritually? G3 acts as a defacto church because you teach doctrine. Who can hold YOU all accountable? Can we the church people, if I get signatures from 1,000 other church elders across the world? Prove that you're not above the church. Who has the authority to rebuke you, require changes or force closure?

    • @jeffdowns1038

      "G3 acts as a defacto church because you teach doctrine." JD, not really sure what you're saying here. Care to clarify?

    • @JDsVarietyChannel
      @JDsVarietyChannel 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@jeffdowns1038 Hey Jeff. If a proclaiming Christian organization teaches doctrine, they should not be above church rebuke. G3 in this video claimed they are not above the church. So I'm asking for specific details, to which extent the universal body of Christ has over their activities. I am withholding judgement until they release the metrics for accountability (was not provided in this video) . That was the context of my comment you're referring to. So if they have set up their own accountability structure, then they operate as a de facto church, in contradiction to what was stated. Again, I withhold judgement until they respond with their criteria for the specifics of how they are beholden to broader church authority.
      EDIT: I could have worded that sentence better, so thanks for brining it up.

    • @Luiz__Silva
      @Luiz__Silva 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      What you are expecting is unrealistic.
      I'm also wary of all those ministries out there, but even the Bible makes it clear scandals will happen. They are inevitable. There's no regulations, bureaucracy or extra biblical requirements that will fix that.
      If much, we should be praying more so that God reveals sin.
      I also think you may be mixing up things here. Where in the Bible it's said that teaching doctrine makes you a church or that teaching doctrine can only be done when approved by a local church? Of course it's good that everyone is in good standing with a church, but what if many pastors who have a good testimony gather themselves to encourage other pastors? Weren't many people in the NT sent to cooperate with Paul or teach other churches?

    Steve Lawson is 73 years old. He must have a history. Has he been a successful pastor of a local church? How many? What is his educational background? What qualified him to be honored by Ligonier, G3 Ministries, or Dean of the D.Min. program at the Master's Seminary? What qualified him to sit on Lord knows how many panels with distinguished theologians? Was he really vetted? He got where he was because he was elevated by good men who did not exercise discernment. He sang the same theological song as these men, and they said, "Come join the choir." And the body is suffering for it.

    Did G3 encourage Lawson to address the public? I agree the local church needs to handle this but G3 can't fully disconnect itself from the situation. Public figures require public repentance.

      The "clarification" doesn't add a lot when they don't even name their sources, and other sources have said that he wasn't a member. But whether he was a member or not on paper, there are still so many issues. Why was he given a job as the lead pastor he wasn't even an elder? If he was a member, then where was the accountability and shepherding? If that had been taken seriously then he wouldn't have gotten away with having an affair for over 5 years. This clarification--whether true or not--does not really help.

Will there be an hour long professional documentary? Who knows? Is it needed? Maybe, maybe not. What is notable in the difference between reformed and charismatic churches is that there is a big emphasis on qualification for reformed pastors. Steve Lawson will never teach again. He will never preach again. He will need host another university class. He will never write a book again. As Justin Peters recently said "Once you disqualify yourself in our circle, you are done forever". And that holds true.
      On the other hand, there have been many notable charismatic preachers that have fallen in the same sin, have left for a season, and then have returned to ministry as if nothing happened. And when you bring up their disqualification, Charismatics will rush to defend those pastors and their "restoration to ministry".

      Is that really the truth? Or is it possible that different people at Trinity have a different understanding of the situation?. By the way because of that even worse than hearsay. Trinity needs to come out and make a statement either affirming that he was a member and is currently. Because there was a letter I thought that came out that said that they could not discipline him because he wasn't a pastor and he wasn't a member where did that letter come from I realize G3 is not responsible for that letter but when people continue to not cite their sources it looks more and more like an attempt to say face and protect one's own bottom line rather than do the right thing and I'm not sure G3 is at fault here I'm not saying they are you're still not being transparent on why the need to remove Lawson's materials that you had hosted on your site? If they were so bad what was that in them? Simply removing them as a change in content being offered like Netflix pulling a movie it doesn't hold weight for a church and it shouldn't hold weight for a Ministry that subservient to the church. I would still like to know the answers to this. Because I suspect just like with John MacArthur's early statement about his theology being perfect that people would begin to look more critically at the type of Calvinism that Lawson was preaching and rebuked those in G3 who hold to it. Come out and repent any of you who are trying to hide this truth from Christians?

When one is an outsider looking in, the solutions seem simple, but up close and personal, it’s much more complicated. I truly have compassion for all. May angry is reserved for the Thief that comes to steal, kill, and destroy!

    I am learning to never elevate a preacher higher than the three inch platform he stands on!
    If the Apostle Peter could deny our Lord Jesus Christ three times, what hope is there for the rest of us? I am saddened by this whole thing, but my hope is not in the Apostle Peter nor in pastor Steve Lawson, neither one of them died for my sins - only Jesus died and rose again to give us eternal life.
    The Rev. Billy Graham led countless multitudes of people to the Lord but he’s dead and never saved one soul.
    The Apostles and the early church Fathers are all dead and lying in their graves. They never saved anyone! The Old Testament church/saints are all dead and buried, never having saved a single soul.

I refuse to pull his content from my channel here on TH-cam. I believe Steven to be a member of God's people and I believe Steven will deal with his sin, in repentance before the God we all serve. Yet there remains something deeply problematic about a Bible teacher who has allied a split to happen, literally a dis-integration within his own heart between his teachings and his practice, between his doctrine and his character. We need to focus as much on character and integrity. It is easier to teach truth than to live in truth. It is easier to pass on the content of faith than it is to live faithfully.

    At this point I'm still convinced that at least some of the information (misinformation?) is possibly, or probably, correct. Was he, or was he not, a pastor and member at Trinity? The website showed him as being the "lead preacher"; kinda weird title. The deafening silence by those who should be speaking seems to be an "uh oh". Being he was platformed for many years, by many entities, before countless thousands of followers, means yes, the people have a right to know. I wasn't a follower of Steve, but was very saddened by the news of his sin. But I have been far more saddened by what seems to be a failure to follow the scriptures, such as 1 Tim 5:20 and, if unrepentant, 1 Cor 5:4-5, as well as the crickets concerning the situation overall. And if he wasn't a member and pastor at Trinity, who knew within his preaching/teaching circle, and if not, why? Memory-holing a person, in and of itself, isn't church discipline. In any case, the elite, celebrity preacher days probably need to come to an end, or maybe God it doing that Himself. I know my thinking has changed considerably on several matters. I hope and pray this comes to a good and known end for the sake of the church and the name of Christ. Patiently waiting...
