    Regarding Bad Buddy EP. 10 Reaction: I think everyone needs to relax and stop coming for us with these Eastern Culture vs. Western Culture accusations, and trying to say we "don't understand". First off, I'm from Asian descent in a predominantly WHITE COUNTRY. 2nd off, these reactors ARE PEOPLE OF COLOR. We UNDERSTAND education struggle. My friend is BLACK in a predominantly WHITE COUNTRY. You don't think she understands?? I really really HATE the notion that because we are on the West, that "we have it easy". I will be like Pran's mom and take the scholarship betrayal to my grave. BUT What you need to get through some of your heads is that she involved her child, and that is something my friends and I would never do. But maybe that's a Western thing 🤷

      I agree stop throwing shade about the reactors reactions to the “stealing scholarship” scenario.
      We don’t have scholarships in my country (I am from a small country/continent named Australia) to go to University, only the very, very, rich go to Uni because it is so expensive per term, the rest of us join the workforce at 18 years of age or sign up for 4 year Apprenticeship or 12 month Traineeship to get certified qualifications so it’s not that Western cultured audiences don’t understand how important this issue we all know it is disgusting what Pat’s dad did to Pran’s mum and we know how hard it is to get a scholarship or even get accepted into a college, plus all the extra work a candidate then needs to do keep it. Dee you are a star in my eyes ❤️

    Imagine, that must have been 20-30 years ago in Asia, a girl smart enough to be qualified for scholarship, and she was short changed by her friend who didn’t even need it omg. And then, she was shaded by her son for dated with that cheating boy? I don’t condone any parents getting physical but I can understand how she just snapped oh boy. That actress was amazing, delivering all that from her heart. And applauses to director Aof to address this toxic generational issues in a BL . Something I noticed and loved was how episodes 10 and 5 connected. Right at the beginning in the 5 ep Pat also wakes up in Pran's room and talks about the password, in ep 5 it was “Pransocool” and in ep 10 it's “Praninlove”, so like in episode 5 Pat goes to Pran's college, but this time he didn't have to hide from anyone, but scream in front of everyone that he loves Pran. In ep 5, Pa tells Pat to test the signals with Ink to see if anything happens and this time it's herself who is still testing these signals with the same person, while in 5 the statement was from PatPran in ep 10 it was PaInk. Like in ep 5 they confronted their own feelings and this time it was their turn to confront their families; which was the problem that Pran knew would get in the way of the relationship, at the end of ep 5 Pran and Pat are crying after the declaration scene and Pran leaves because he thinks it's better not to start something that wouldn't work. This time they are crying together, but knowing that they have each other, as soon as Pat arrives Pran collapses and leans on him and the scene ends with them together and supporting each other, unlike ep 5 where Pat ended up alone in the roof after the Pran leaves. In both episodes, we can see how much Pran feel hurt.

    True, GMMTV does get credit for producing this bl, but 99% of it's success is because of the writers, the director P'Aof, Nanon and Olm. If you replace any of them, this drama would not be the new standard for excellence.

    I’m happy that Nolan brought up the generational pressure and pain in Pats family. Pat grandfather pushed Ming (pats father) to be this ‘alpha male’ type of guy and he was pretty successful in becoming one. Everything we know of Ming is people bragging about him being a leader in high school and in college. They mentioned that he was really smart and went to competitions with Prans mom. Also the way he would show up to every event as ‘top dog’ like Pat used to do in high school. Ming bragged about being successful at sports in college and wanting Pat to carry on his traditional and prestige. All in all Ming was pressured to be great and ended up being really successful. Ming now pressures Pat in all the same ways his father did him.
    Pat is the class president, leader of his faculty, leader of his gang of friends, his also very smart. Despite Pat not wanting to play rugby everything shows him being really good at sports. Pats story is a mirror image of his father where both were pushed to be ‘manly man’ and to rise to the occasion. Ming and Pat are both pretty aggressive, physical and extremely confrontational. Think of all the times we’ve seen Pat fight, be brave or become angry then think about how Ming behaved at the super market.
    Ming is raising Pat the same way his father raised him and this comes with all the pressure of being great and being a ‘man’. This is Pat was so disappointed at his father. He lives to please his father and get his approval and yet Ming was the one to let him down. Ming when confronted literally tells Pat “your not the only one who wanted to please his father” in response to him stealing the scholarship. Prans mom knows how Ming was raised and she knows how Ming is raising Pat. She’s doing all she can to protect Pran from the same hurt she received.

    we all were so wrong for judging Pran's mom. i really understand her when she said she had to save her reputation. its fucked up but this whole thing stemmed from Pat's dad who started this. He made his children hate her kid just so he can save face and try to hide behind them also. so it forces Pran's parents to also do same to their son. remember when she said "don't tell your kids to hate the people next door". that shows it was Pat's dad who started the kids hating each other/competition thing. You can see how badly hurt Pran's mom is. she was willing to keep it a secret bcos she valued their friendship back in school and she knew it will cause family issues. She doesn't hate Pat. its just bcos of his dad and him starting all this feud. honestly if this happened to me i wouldn't want anyone close to me close to the person who hurt me and whoever he or she is associated with. this is life and feelings are feelings some are just inevitable. also the mere fact that Pat's dad is unable to own up and even apologize geeez im so pissed.

    • @minimarsbars
      @minimarsbars 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I see a lot of people defending Pran's mum and sympathising with her, and whilst I do get it, she's still a fully grown woman who was so messed up by what happened to her she projected all the pain onto her child. She was unable to compartmentalise for the sake of her son. I feel that when viewers say the support her, they're effectively trivialising Pran's very real betrayal and heartache. I'm not saying his mother doesn't love him in her own way, but a lot of his problems with being unable to express his feelings and his issues with loneliness and guilt and fear of judgement and rejection are all tied to his upbringing. Her love for him seems to come with conditions as opposed to Pat who loves him unconditonally. That's kinda depressing. At the end of the day, Pat's dad caused Pran's mum pain but she was the one that caused Pran pain. So yeah, I feel for her, but still judge her for being a terrible parent.

      @@minimarsbars i fail to see how people understanding her pov means they're justifying her actions? you are aware you able to empathise with someone's hurt or pain without accepting nor condoning their behaviour? i hate that it seems like, when you understand something it means you agree with it. it has never meant that, understanding =/= acceptance. no one is excusing her behaviour I think everyone is being emotionally intellectual to understand how this can turn some people into states like this, i doubt anyone here agrees with her behaviour. another example is like someone getting bullied in all forms so hard for years- to the day they snap and finally put their bully in a casket, it's like.. do i understand their pain and where it stemmed from? absolutely, are their emotions valid and justified? yes, but does that mean i agree & 100% condone their actions & the result of their actions? not a chance. does it also mean i agree if they start being a bully themselves or putting it on their kids? fuck no. i think it should be known that you can both understand and disagree at the same time. it's important to have that ability. to sympathise but also reprimand at the same time.

    This episode was just amazing. With the devastating reveal of the messy, complicated, painful, and bitter truth regarding Ming's and Disseya's past as friends destroyed by betrayal, we have (along with Pat and Pran), come to realize that ALL the pressure of keeping them from being able to be friends was all based off of guilt, hurt, and envy.

    • @johnmaster3748
      @johnmaster3748 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Too often in BLs, the villains have been simply toxic figures whose dirty deeds exist only to create drama for the leads. The creative braintrust guiding Bad Buddy seems to grasp that villains, as human beings, must at least make sense to themselves. So when we think Wai is unredeemable, they give us a series of flashbacks to explain his motive. Korn was redeemed. And nothing revealed today fully exonerates Pran's mom for the way she handled Pran, I think most fans will soften their animosity toward her.

    • @VixenByNight72
      @VixenByNight72 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@johnmaster3748 Agreed. Viewers have softened their initial opinion on Disseya, but they also still see that she had a huge hand in the "mental makeup" of Pran's issues regarding her need to "shield" him away from Pat and "that family". All of the smiley and frowny signs inside of his dormroom have never just been for decoration. Pran has relied on those signs to help him get throughout the years of pressure, he was under, due to his Mother's unresolved past with Ming. What I loved about this history reveal, is that we have an Asian based series, a love story between two former "bad buddies", who were only rivals, due to their parents negative influence. Their situation is due to them, and I feel that the resolution between Ming, Disseya, and them apologizing to their sons will be addressed in the last two episodes. Something that most Asian dramas try to avoid at all costs.

    Normalize resolving problems in one episode! One of my favorite things about this series is how quickly issues are resolved. It's so refreshing for a BL series.
    Nanon's acting is so impressive. I've always known Ohm to be a strong actor but Nanon's really shining here. His face is so expressive and the emotions run deep.

      This! I’m kinda shocked how many people are suddenly defending her? I feel for her, but what an awful parent! Dissaya isn’t the protagonist of this show. Pran is. I said it in a reply that I really feel for her and understand her betrayal. But to to defend her the way people are is to ignore and trivialise the pain pran feels and the trauma he’s been put through. He was absolutely distraught by the end of the episode saying he couldn’t take it anymore and the only comfort he received was from another messed up kid. I truly hope they don’t try to redeem her or something because pran is absolutely justified in how he feels.

Like no, taking your kid out of school, putting all this pressure on him, making him feel this way is not okay. I feel for her truly, i cannot imagine how crushing it must have felt to have your future taken away from you, especially by a friend, and to then have to watch him not even use that opportunity and try to play the victim. However. As a parent, you should not have let your resentment bleed into your relationship with your son. You should have cared about his feelings more and not let your hatred influence your decisions. Priorities people.
      Anyways, it does feel a bit like wtf when i see ppl being like," i would have been the same as her"...like dude, i hope to god that's not true for the sake of your future children

      @@adriennpasku2602 yeah I agree. The breakdown of a close friendship (especially in this instance) can be as devastating and life changing as the breakdown of a romantic relationship. Add in the stolen scholarship (which I also think was a cool commentary on the lack of accessibility to secondary education in many countries, especially for women) and I really empathise with her and the anger she feels.
      But this generational trauma ain’t it. She’s the reason pran is the way he is, and he tells her that to her face. He’s clearly a sensitive, emotional kid with a lot of love to give, but has been taught to repress everything and please everyone at his own expense. Pat’s father encouraged toxic masculinity, but it’s clear his sister’s influence and support (and eventually his love for pran) helps him deal with emotions healthily - he cries in front of his parents in ep 10 because he feels comfortable doing so, as opposed to Pran who finally opens up to his mother and receives a slap in return as punishment. All this is to say that when it comes to actual parenting, both Pat’s dad and Pran’s mum are as awful as each other.

    )I love how every times something happens pat always make sure to ask pran is he okay cause he knows how softer he is than him. And I like how the mom pointed out to the dad at the beginning that they should say thank you to pran. And his sister is the best trying to lie for him to help him out their relationship are goals. And it’s adorable when pat started screaming I love you I front of everyone and their all cheering and pran ask for a ring and pat fist bumps him because it’s like a call back to the first episode they always did fist bumps when they were like making a deal with each other and being close it’s like their own little thing. And I’m happy that all the boys get along now I always thought they would be that boy it group if they all became friends and now it’s happening finally. I hope wai and korn have more moments even if they don’t end up officially together by the end of the show they just kinda match in a weird way. And I think it’s sweet for pat to let pa decide if she would want wai or ink I can’t stand in other shows when siblings try to control who each other dates and likes it’s annoying. I think the reason why some of the signs didn’t work on ink is because she’s just so confident in herself that she doesn’t get that nervous or shy. And I like how she noticed the signs with wai too but didn’t react on it and lead him on or add him into her and inks thing I’m happy the director didn’t go for a triangle love story. And even though wai is an ass sometimes and I still haven’t completely forgave him and think he redeemed himself all the way for outing his BFF and enemy sexually and relationship at the same time to be petty I’m happy he was smart enough to realize ink likes pa and backed off right way. I like how pat and pran tried to figure out what happened to their families cause they know they just can’t ignore it if they really want to be together happily. And Idk if you noticed but when pat was like that’s the face you always made looking at me being punished that’s like letting us know that while pran used to always look at pat pat used to always look and notice pran to without him noticing it though so that really makes me think again that pats body and heart always liked and wanted pran his mind just didn’t realize it all that time. I love how every time someone besides their parents see them together or find out they date aren’t shocked they just give a knowing smile like they expected it to happen one day for them. And pat and pa relationship is legit goals how they hang out and actually talk to each other about there lives and if their upset or worried and I like how it’s not a big deal to him when pa said she likes girls and the girl she likes is ink and how he supports her in what she wants it’s so adorable. And pa acting is legit amazing like I could feel every emotion she tried to give got and I like how she told her why she was upset and I k right away let her know how she really feels and didn’t leave her wondering like brooooo these couples communicating all the time is so perfect to me and this is the first time I watched a show where it was like that all healthy relationships and communication and honesty and respect etc I love it I can’t wait for them to be official too. I adore how when the parents asked them what was going on they didn’t lie they straight up said they were boyfriends and stood up to their parents for what they wanted and for what was right and I love how pat once again went straight to pran after he got pushed and asked if he was okay and how pran got in between pat when his dad when pats dad tried to attack pat without hesitation even know he knew the dad dislikes him a lot. And I hate how his mom slapped him then acted like she felt bad like no matter how upset you were don’t touch your kids in that was and I hate how the parents keep saying their reputation like bro grow up your kids are not you get over it. And it sucks that the dad did that he was wrong in the situation but so was the mom cause if they had a problem they should have keep it between them and left the kids out of it completely and told the truth from the beginning cause when you think about it if the parent would have never always made them hate each other and compete etc them the boys probably wouldn’t have been as drown to each other as they were growing up with the drama so the parents kinda made it happen for them to be soulmates and be together and I love how when the emotions where getting to much for pran he called pat but pat was already there cause he knew pran to well and without talking or saying anything they just held each other tight and was just there for each other and I love how the sight of pran breaking down made pat want to break down to cause he doesn’t like to see his lover in any type of pain they were just beautiful together I love and adore them idk what I would do if I were them but I think they are handling everything pretty well for themselves I’m just happy that no matter what happened they always stick together and become stronger together.

    she is not wrong that can change her life, and it not a fair competition, basic on lying, so she didn't want Pran close to Pat, bc she afraid Pat will like his father, even a friend but betray.

    Nolan's Question at 1:27:10: I think she stormed over there because in that moment she was convinced Pat's family had been influencing her son to defy her. Subborning his affections, as it were. That belief is erroneous, but she's been itching to confront Pat's dad for decades. That said, I don't think when she walked through the door she already knew she would tell the scholarship story. That struck me as a spur of the moment choice, after Pat invited her to tell.* (Also, she was outraged when she headed over there, and never do anything when you're not thinking clearly due to anger.) My take is subjective, so I am, happy to hear other interpretations.
    *--Pat's dad's expression when she says "Do you want to know?" Guilt. Shame. Regret. And for me, a hint of relief--like he is ready to face the music and wants the burden lifted at last. He certainly makes no attempt to stop her from speaking and then no attempt to justify himself. His retreat signals a guilty plea--shame, not avoidance or denial. He knows this thing has hung over his head for decades. He wasn't ready in that unanticipated moment to deal with repercussions, but I predict Ep 11 or 12 will show that this revelation helps him to move forward with his emotions and he will make the best amends he can 20 years too late.

    For anyone who might not understand about the scholarship thing. I've seen other Western reactions about this episode and their reactions are quite the same. They find it's ridiculous just to hate another family only because his father stole one's scholarship. Well, it is very important in Asian perspective especially if you grew up in the lower socioeconomic status. The scholarship is like the holy grails of these people because it implies that their future lives including his/her parents will become better once he/she graduates and gets a good job. In short, for Asian perspective this scholarship stealing thing is far more important than the puppy love of Pat and Pran, far, far more important. And for me as an Asian perspective, if his dad did to me like he did. I will definitely forbid my children to make any contact with his children too. And for people who say it's unfair for Pran what his mother did to him. Let's exaggerate this situation, so if someone killed your sister, do you still welcome his son to your son's party, to play at your house or invite him for dinner because he doesn't do anything wrong? can you do that in real life? I bet anytime you see or even here the son's voice, automatically all the bad things his dad used to do to your sister, your family will flash back at you, just like it's just happened yesterday!

      @TheMissCareless 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yes to this comment! When one of the reactors said this was a petty reason… it really isn’t. Especially when the two of them were friends and the dad stole the scholarship just to end up in the same spot (of running the business).
      But I’m glad they (the reactors) managed to clear up in the end and saw why the mom reacted this way.

    • @kevin_10f
      @kevin_10f 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yes, true. That's what I want to say for some other reactors, their reaction are like "just that, really?", I really don't know what to say for them... Well, I guess because of the culture difference between Asian and Western

    • @johnmaster3748
      @johnmaster3748 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ok. The weight of the scholarship issue was never the bit that created a plot hole for me. The scholarship story added a second one, actually. So I hope you can offer a culturally specific explanation for these questions. Because they nag at me. And without one, the whole two decade feud feels contrived.
      First, what motivation did Pran's mother have for sitting on this ugly truth for 20 years? How does concealing the bad guy's secret help her? Why did Pran's parents go along with a complex series of lies rather than expose Pat's dad at every opportunity? And my original plot hole question: why on earth would one of these families not simply have moved away after the kids were born?

    • @NeverSaySy
      @NeverSaySy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, I live in Europe still I can imagine how difficult it was for a girl to have a scholarship granted especially if university costs a lot. You can study for free if you are a bright mind, you don't need the financial support of your family (they may be unable to provide it, plus generally speaking poor family especially In the pastpreferred to invest on the boys' education). That means you can be independent and you don't need to marry soon

    • @ve8012
      @ve8012 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Im Asian and I wont let my kid suffer just because of that scholarship thing. That scholarship issue is more important than her son's happiness? She literally transferred Pran to different school for a petty reason. Its all in the past. They shouldn't involve their children to their problems. Just like what Pat's mom said, they're adults now. They should've talked and fixed their problem years ago. 20 years have passed and she still carrying that burden in her? They have a good business and good life now so she should at least try to move on for the sake of his son.

Man, I was screaming at your comments and then I had to go to work and just internally scream with you all. The 500 moments in this one episode again!! This drama is a TOP 3 of ALL series, shows how you don't need filler just Fabulous content!!! LOVING the GL with Pa&Ink. Pa is just like her brother, goes right to the source facing her feelings head-on. Her voice during her confession, me- my feels...you cry, I cry. They are soooo cute! (Ink, "Can I?" Smiles only for her.)
    Pat&Pran still proving the other liked them first, still with their competition mode.
    Pran's Mom saying, "Ming" and ran over to the their house in her house slippers. You knew she was going to spill all the Tea!
    Kent- She had receipts, exposing Calvin on YT... I'm dead. Pat's Dad couldn't say anything because he was in the wrong. You cannot steal someone's future... and for him to see the disappointment on his son's face. Ouch!
    And then Pat finding Pran... don't cry... I can't cut onions again.

    Omg, i hope u will get ur money back, and btw here's i wanna talk about the difference between pat and pran in the last scene, we can see how different they are, pran is only child so when he's got hurt he just burst out like that, meanwhile pat is older brother so he's trying so hard not to cried just want to comfort pran on that situation, also about pran's mom i think they're also talk about the issue in asian, like male should go higher especially on education, that's why she really wanted that scholarship but Pat's Dad took it, and it's really hurt especially they're best friend but he's betrayed her, so that's why she asked pran to stay away because she's afraid that pat maybe will do the same thing, so it's understandable, but still she's wrong to lied and did that to their children, but my theory is Pat's Dad did that because of something, there's must be a reason behind that tho, okay that's it

    Some fact : P'Aof said that the scene at 1:03:18 was supposed to be in the supermarket. And when Pran was pushed away by Pat's dad, he got hit to the shelf and things on it would fall down on the floor (and I guess some on Pran). That would make the situation bigger (and worse). I do also think the mom didn't want history to repeat it self that's why she tried to shield her baby from being hurt she felt as if like father like son then you have to think pat and pran was always taught to compete against eachother so when she saw them in a bad together she was like oh hell no not my child the sad thing is by shielding him she was emotionally abusing her son and I feel pats dad was trying to make him like him but I didn't turn out that way I also when he thanked pran and let Pat talk to him for a few mins we saw some humanity maybe while pran and pat are away it will make the parents realize they need to lay everything on the table so they son's can be happy maybe even pa can tell them about the story of pran rescuing her ♥️

    I DON'T WHAT WAS MORE FUNNY? THE FACT THAT YOU HAD TO EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENT MEANING OF BITCH OR THAT SHE UNDERSTOOD ABOUT PRAN'S MOM. YOU ALL ARE TOO FUNNY I REALY ENJOYED ALL OF THE GUESS ABOUT THE REASON FOR THE FAMILY FIGHT.

    It's lunchtime here now. Someone reading this has extensive knowledge of Thai street food. What ingredients did Wai's oversized treat ("the bouquet") likely have hidden beneath the fold? And what is the Thai word for that thing? Because, like
    Christine, it looked to me like some kind of hyperactive taco. If true, it's the most epic fusion food ever and would sell out across America. But even if untrue, I want one.
