It takes more practice at times. I don't like every rose I make either. I usually make more and choose the ones I like :).

I have a question. I've read you can make a slotted tool easily with a larger sewing needle, and a cork> push sharp end into cork, and use the hole on the needle as the slot. I am curious to try quilling. Anyone know if that works well ? Thanks in advance

It may work. I used a toothpick for a number of years. I slit it at one end and used it as a quilling slotted tool. I have a video about it on my channel, in the playlist called "Quilling Supplies"
