  • Hi folks,
The Celestron Advanced VX + polar axis finder is available at Amazon: amzn.to/2qwCmCh
This video is a tutorial about the way i polar and star align my celestron AVX EQ mount. It is a follow-up of the first video where i setup the Celestron AVX. You can find this video here:
    • How to setup a Celestr...
I always connect my handcontroller to my PC and then do the star alignment using the Celestron NexRemote software. Note that if you want to setup your AVX mount using the real handcontroller, then this process works exactly the same as compared to the Nexremote software I'm using in the video.
Software is free and can be find here:
    NexRemote: www.celestron....
    Sharpcap: www.sharpcap.c...
Hope this video is useful to you!

Hej from Indianapolis - USA. This is a great video. Very helpful as I start learning to use my new AVX 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain. It arrived today, but is cloudy for the next several days. :(

I like this. I'm planning on purchasing the Celestron Advance VX I'm interested in imaging the Sun, but imaging the stars looks very interesting too.

Tip: if you have the money, you could buy a Daystar quark and a small refractor. With the Daystar you can image the sun and with the refractor and camera you can image the stars. I'm always thinking about buying a Daystar but they are expensive. Cheers and clear skies!

@@AstroForumSpace So far I already have a Coronado PST, and a ZWO-ASI178 camera. Now I need to get the Celestron Advance VX and the Hutech Hinode Solar Guider. No Polar alignment necessary with this, but at a hefty price.

@@justtim9767 if you are only interested in sun and planets you could also consider an alt-az mount with tracking capability... But if you also want deepsky images I would recommend switching to an EQ mount. Good luck Tim.

@@AstroForumSpace Years ago I did the Moon and the Milk Way with my Canon Rebel with a 300mm lens using an old Majestic tripod. The results were what you could expect from an amateur. Post processing the Milky Way was my down fall, so I put everything away. I saw some Sun images on youtube and it looked interesting, so here I am.

I’m honking of buying a used AVX out with a 6” reflector and try AP. What’s your opinion on the tracing abilities?

Hi Javier, I have used the AVX with my 80mm and 102mm refractor and have been happy with the tracking. Always about 1 arcsecond of accuracy with phd2 guiding software. You can check my review of the AVX here: th-cam.com/video/_3hh8o1g_nk/w-d-xo.html clear skies!

Hoi from a neighbour, iam from IJsselstein. I have a question. How long is the cable between your camera and computer? Is it USB? Do you have a cable diagram? I hope you read this message.

I noticed you’re using SGP. Look into plate solving and you can skip the star alignment procedure.

    • @AstroForumSpace

Hi Brain. Yes, i already use platesolving but not everyone has SGP so i thought it would be useful info for people who get started. Maybe i could make a video on SGP as well, it is a fantastic program.

Would this method help me get this step under control?

Yes, it could work. Try to align your tripod with a compas to the north and put the mount in the correct latitude position. You should be able to star align and track objects. Goodluck!
