I bought mine just 10 weeks ago but still I noticed a few changes to your rig. Most notably the high steering knuckles and curved steering link are new and extremely welcome. The ends of the suspension links are also angled now, mine are straight. It's clear Redcat Racing is listening to our feedback. Thanks for the video.
My favorite rig for sure. Got me into crawling so I prefer this brand. Gained a lot of knowledge over the years so transforming this rig little by little made it perfect. Portals, tires & foam, body and this Gen7 crawls like a champ. Great starter trail truck for sure.
The best thing I have done to my Gen 7 was added a Battery Tray to the rear of the crawler and ran 2 batteries for double run time. I also have a FPV camera hooked up to my RC so having the extra battery life while I crawl for hours in fpv is freaking awesome!
I would call yours the Gen 7 version 2.0 because Redcat made some minor adjustments from the original, such as the curved steering link. The original had a straight steering link and different steering knuckles that gave the truck a much larger turning radius.
@@rcdriver I said when the Gen 8 came out, they'll have to drop the price of the Gen 7 pro because it just didn't make sense when the Gen 8 was 20 bucks more. Now at 50 bucks difference, that's more reasonable. However. lol. Now they're in the issue where it probably doesn't make sense to get the 7 Sport with all the upgrades you get on the Pro. ;) Don't think we'll be seeing a drop in the Sport any time soon though.
For those that own the Gen 7 already, Redcat offers the upgrade to portal axles for $100. Improves performance a great deal! They are the same axles that come on the Gen 8
@@dangavin Wait a second. That doesn't make sense. Matt stated that if you have a Gen 7 already and wanted to upgrade, the portals are out there for $100. He didn't say "buy this at $250 then spend another $100 for portals to swap out." of which you'd be right. Might as well get the TRX4 Sport. It only makes sense if you already own the Gen 7 Pro, money you spend along ago, and really have the urge to upgrade. If you're buying brand new and must have portals? yeah TRX4 Sport or Gen 8 would be the way to go.
@Michael Platter I would look at Axial or Element Sendero. They are better platforms to start from and have a much larger 3rd party support. I broke the front CVD twice. On 2nd repair, I sold the vehicle. Went Axial and never looked back.
I'm not into crawling....yet, but I love the look of that thing, I've been looking at the traxxas TRX, but can't justify the price for what I want it for, just play around and enjoy the look of it, until I saw this, for $250.00 it's perfect for me, only took me around 10 minutes to pull the trigger, I can't wait till it gets here
GREAT job on this video, very thorough. I got one, black, and it's GREAT! Only thing I did, is paint some detail on some of the scale accessories on the roof, as they were a bit bland, all being all red. 👍
It's not $249, I searched every online hobby store, none of them have it for $249, the lowest I found was $279, and almost every store is selling them for $279. When I clicked on the link you provided it came up with a main hobbies, who I always deal with, and it was $279, not $249. I wish you were right, I was going to jump right on that $249 price. Lol. Great videos. Luv RC Driver.
I have 6 crawlers, some to the tune of 3k plus. This is my everyday favorite basher crawler. At the price point of $250 you’d be hard pressed to find a better RTR. Bash Fix Repeat RC!!!!!
$289 in 2023 at my store. I got the sport, I liked the feather weight flexible body better. The body flexes inward rubbing rocks. Probably last a year using it 3-4 times a week. Then I'll get another one.
These comments lol. Just get a gen8 bla bla bla redcat makes portal upgrades bla bla bla, some people don't want a gen8 and the gen7 pro is cheaper and has a ton of accessories. I have a gen8 and I still want a gen7 pro bad just because you want a crawler doesn't mean you have to buy the latest newest thing. Portals are cool but not scale and it seems people think that portals are a must because the trx4 and gen8 have them and the only way to compete is to have portals too. The axles on the gen7 look like the original scx10 axles but people talk about how big and ugly the redcat axles are but overlook that Axial pretty much had the same axles on the gen1 scx10 and everyone liked them, but redcat does it and they are ugly and bad lmao. Even without portals this rig is very capable and has been proven since the gen7 came out, there are literally tons of videos on the gen7. The gen7 with a different body on it is more scale than the gen8 since last time I checked full size crawlers don't use portals.
People are so stupid it's painful. You hit the nail on the head, when you talked about the axles, it's ok if axial does it, but redcat does it, and it's junk. You have guys that just throw shade because they are bored. So sick of people making videos where they idolize Traxxas, then poo poo redcat just because they cost less.
Preach it brother. Are portals nice? Sure. Are they a must from here on out? Hardly. They're not scale given most trucks don't have them. They're simply a crawling benefit. And that's fine. I think it's important to note that the more intricate something is, the more moving parts there is, in my experience that's just more to break or go wrong. While I'm sure the TRX4 sport portals & gen 8 portals are nice & durable. You can't convince me they're more durable over the long haul in a standard axle setup.
Have to agree with this, too! I have several nicer, high-end scale RC 4x4 trucks, but I just admire the Everest Gen7 body so much that I bought just the body last August, thinking I'd put it on some chassis I already had, but recently I've been thinking of getting a whole RTR Gen7 Pro, and maybe selling off some of the parts, so I'd have an extra body, wheels, etc. I like the OEM body mounting system they employed, and would like to have that, which only that BPC chassis provides. I do wish the body was a genuine polycarbonate, though. It will warp if exposed to excessive heat for too long. Fortunately, I live in a cooler climate, so probably don't have to worry about that.
Also, the cruising speed of the 7 is faster than the 8. The 8 may well be better suited to climbing and crawling, but I want something that can move a little on a 2S. I also really like the looks of the 7, and it's not so pretty I'll feel bad when I roll it / scratch it. If I get one, I plan on taking all that stuff off the roof rack and leave it on unloaded.
The tyre foam is much to hard. Use the wheels as ice hockey pucks! I put the gen8 tires and foam into my car and it handles much better. I also upgraded the gearbox to metal gears. I use 8,4V hump NIMH battery in my car. Totally a very good solution.
I looked seriously at one of these as my first crawler. Then the gen 8 hit the streets.. had to get it with that scout body.. i love mine, i couldn't see going wrong with the rig that caused enough success for redcat to bring a even better version crawler. The stock tires are pretty darn good for RTR i just did the foam upgrade for a while and they hook up really decent for. RTR tire. Definitely not throw aways 👍 dig the vid
Well, I I’m gonna give it my all to hold onto my money for one of these. Starting now, I’m gonna save my money. It’ll be a few lawns cut, but it’ll happen eventually. “when” I get this truck, I’ll do my best to remember to come back to this comment and edit it. Wish me luck!
Hi, Great video! I just bought our grandsons 1 of these and this confirms a good choice.. what is clicking gear noise while driving? Does a slipper clutch get rid of this? Thanks again! Don
I love my Gen7 Pro i got for christmas but i broke the main gear as it is plastic against metal. I think they should change it from plastic to a metal gear but other than that I have no complaints for this amazing truck!
You can change the battery player to carbon or G10 to lighten it up. And I would change foam to proline duel change!! Make it that much better and battery if you want more time.
My friend had one last year, it was 99bpercent stock, it had the associated police light har on it, the black body with my he white side panel decals on it, it was cool. He told me he didn't have it looked at enough to enjoy, he had to sell it, with a couple other rc_s to cover the deductable for car insurance from accident caused by someone else, he might get another someday.
Looking to get into the hobby. What rc crawler would you recommend to the money tight consumer for a beginner. Something affordable that would be just fine for a beginner but allows upgrades and customization? Thanks for the help, great channel.
By the way if you want this rig and you want to do some serious crawling, prepare for some upgrades... ( I have one ) As you know, this vehicle its heavy, so you cant push it on side hills. The stock tires are trash on wet surfaces, and the plastic gears will break sooner or later. I recommend at least buying new tyres, adding weigth inside them, buying a ligther body shell, and buy some metal gears for the motor. kuddos

I had to take all the stuff off of the top of my rig. All that stuff seems to make that thing super top-heavy and the bodies kind of top-heavy anyway and that just adds to it I found it wanting to flip over on its side lot when you got it into a tight bind
The way the motor is out and about can you get it wet? Or will it get destroyed because the way it's out in the atmosphere? First time at wanting to get an RC truck
how did you tighten the set screws down on the aftermarket driveshaft? my gen 8 uses a long single grub screw or hex head screw all the way though the gear spline thingy that sticks out & has a hole drilled though it , these aftermarket shafts I picked up just like yours have several tiny set screws. Do you just tighten them up AGAINST the gear spline ? otherwise if I line the holes up it wont work I don't think?? Hope that makes sense THANKS for any help you can offer
The shells front end and grill look likw a Tahoe and the rest Cherokee sport. There is already a licence Cherokee Sport out with BF goodwrench tires even has stickers on the window like Eaton they have a plant in the town i live in. Scale Trail, is a different class from Rock Crawler....hence the details of realism, compared to rock crawlers. I live my life a quarter rock at a time, for everything else, scale matters.

But you forgot a battery and charger for the Gen8 my friend. That's another $50+. Sure the Gen7 has just a NiMh battery and slow charger *BUT it's included* and I got over 2 miles of running on one charge; not bad. A Gen8 is really $100+ more than a Gen7 for a first time crawler buyer.
Jeremy Holmes you can change your gearing to make it go super fast ,but this truck wasn’t made for speed. If you go super fast it gets pretty squirrelly.. hope this helps buddy.... enjoy.

Does it have locked dfferentles
What is the random “ratcheting” sound heard when going over tough spots. Is it the slight tire rub on the body, or gear slipping.
Anyone?
Was wondering that myself
It's the tires rubbing the inner fenderwells.
Also, redcat had the problem with the diff covers rubbing against part of the rim of the tire i think... But they fixed it in the new gen8 models
I got my daughter a gen 7 and me the pro i think they made the pro a bit to top heavy . I still like it though
Hey dude can you put any trailer on it or do you have to get a hitch?
Is the receiver waterproof?
I love the gen7...mine is modified but still my favourite. ..thanks for the review

Top speed?

receiver and esc are waterproof, but servo isnt, so tread carefully when you enter bodies of water, because my servo broke
The gen 7 pro is a good crawler from what ive seen n heard but if I was gonna get a redcat id save another $50 n get the Gen 8 with the portal axles
Always have something to say and most the time negative lmao
@@stpbasss3773 Hey I wasnt being negative, I said the Gen 7 was a good crawler but it was myself I'd save another $50 n get the Gen 8, wasnt trying to be negative im just speaking the truth, for $50 ur gonna get a whole other beast with the upgrades from the gen 7 n portal axles, I mean to upgrade the Gen 7 with portals they cost $100 for them so ur already saving $50 going with gen 8, my bad if I came off as negative
I really l;ike this and I'm just getting into the hobby. Gonna do a lot of trail riding. How fast does this go top speed?
Jeremy Holmes you can change your gearing to make it go super fast ,but this truck wasn’t made for speed. If you go super fast it gets pretty squirrelly.. hope this helps buddy.... enjoy.
Is it worth your money
Any recommendations on how to get the wheels not to rub I just got mine yesterday love it just rubbing on wheel wells
Tallguy 212 so for mine I shopped for wheel spacers. Just a couple of millimeters will do it.
Nice👍
