    I lived in Kwakwani, Berbice River, from 1979-1983. I love everything about Guyana and still have very good friends that I’m in touch with.

    This is probably one of the most beautiful exchange and sharing of customs that I have seen in a very long time. I am from Guyana, never visited the interior, except for going to the airport, but I can see how beautiful it is and I really commend the families for doing this and sharing it with the world. More Americans should open themselves to the cultures of other people, and not just criticize it. Get the know the world and the people in it.

    Was born in Guyana but I grew up in the city but we still did without a lot of stuff. I moved to the U.S and now appreciate more where I came from!

    Beautiful Guyana. I was born in Guyana, grew up on the coastal area
    Had a similar childhood..livestock..farming..Move to the US about 35 years ago..got educated here, about to retire...always dreaming of my childhood...were very poor, just struggling to survive yet the experience was great.

    Man I live in Guyana and this would be an adventure for me. lol. This is the interior where mostly natives and miners live. The rest of the country lives in normal homes, shop in supermarkets, stream videos from all over the world ( love Netflix), have air-conditioning for the heat, malls for shopping and every other modern convenience just like the US. The youth are also very addicted to Instagram , Facebook and Twitter 😀. There are very poor parts of Guyana but even they have access to the basics of electricity , roads , water and supermarkets to buy food. The native indians in the US and Canada and not much better

    Baramita is a beautiful place to visit in Region 1. Friendliness of its inhabitants and the vast Amerindian cuisine will delight your palate, as well as the enjoyment of the incredible forests and rivers of that Guyanese town.

    Nice film....well made. This is in the interior region of Guyana, away from the city. Good adventure for the kids. There were moments when this had to be tough for them. Especially watching the bull being killed. Quite risky place to be should there be an accident whereby someone became injured. I am sire you guys had medical first aid etc. But overall quite risky for the kids, falling off a horse, or being bitten by a snake. Glad that it ended well. Again, I enjoyed the video.

      @islandgirl3330 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess all precautions were made for any accidents. Thank God, nothing happened. I have stayed at a fairly posh resort that were on acres of land which were beautifully landscaped on one of the Caribbean islands and a snake was sighted crawling across the front of the lobby where I would have sat while waiting for the golf cart. So they could be anywhere. And that was not in a jungle. That is why I never stay on the ground floor.

    A great experience for a family accustomed to all the amenities and gadgets that make life in an affluent society so easy that they have lost their survival skills in a natural environment. If a world crisis should occur in the near future the youths and even adults in affluent societies will not be able to make it through. This family is now better off with this experience and exposure they have had.👍

    😮 these poor American family, what a culture shock. Why they choose to go there and not in the capital Georgetown

    • @islandgirl3330
      @islandgirl3330 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because, it would have defeated the purpose of the trip. The mother wanted to do an adventure trip, not a trip of comfort in a posh home or hotel with everything like home. I am sure they benefitted something from it in the end.

    We sometimes think that we have it hard. Guess what. Everything is packaged nicely in the supermarket. People in some parts of the world don't realize how easy life is for them and I guess we should stop complaining. This is a good lesson for kids. They have gotten too used to all the high tech gadgets and easy living. I also think the dad was a sad case. A man is supposed to be tough. In the end the kids learned to accept things and stopped moping. Nice video.

    Narrator at beginning makes you feel like all of Guyana is like that . Truth is that's only one town in Guyana where approximately 1,200 persons live and a handful of that number lives like that.
    That like going to an Indian reservation in US and saying that that's how all of the US is.
    Come on NatGeo..

    I love watching National Geographic videos but this one was extremely too poorly produced considering many things like it was done in 2017, with a beautiful American family not even giving them an opportunity to visit places like Lethem, Georgetown, Essequibo, Linden, New Amsterdam, Bartica, the East Coast of Demerara, West Coast of Berbice, West Coast of Demerara, Linden Highway, large International Hotels, Night Clubs, Restaurants & the US Embassy just to name a few where people are living in luxury some of whom are living a life more than the American Dream. The Charlie Family is talented farmers & they decided to live in the Rupununi Savannah. Jim Jones & his followers were all US Citizens living in the jungle in the North West District so what he did to his own brothers & sisters made United States looks bad. His story didn't, "Tarnished Guyana International Reputation." This video also only reflects what life is in the Rupununi Savannah. It doesn't reflect what life is elsewhere in Guyana also known as British Guiana. I give credit to the Charlie & Berger Families. God Bless them. They've beautiful children. I was happy to see them united & helping each other to get their tasks done. Thank you for sharing.

    Imagine a son seeing his mom as the brave leader in the family and calling his father a wimp for the whole world to see. Caucasian men have lost their place in the way of things. Except for that protected status, they will not survive. When the power goes out what will this family do?
