    I am always pleased when a TH-camr goes back to a familiar forest setting and shows the lasting value of previous builds.

    I love my DD Jungle hammock and I am a side/back/side/front, rotisserie chicken - style sleeper. Works for me! I genuinely sleep better in a hammock than anywhere else... it might have something to do with good food, beer consumption and fresh air.
    Hope you can get used to your hammock; it looks like a great piece of kit.

      It's normal woodland with tons of bracken fern. That grows worldwide and is actually invasive. It's toxic and hard to get rid of.

    • @eddplackett
      @eddplackett 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why would you want to get rid of bracken? I thought it was pretty natural.

    • @bcaye
      @bcaye 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@eddplackett, it's EXTREMELY invasive. It's also toxic and has significant effect on ecosystems.
      Kudzu, japanese ladybugs, fire ants, african bumblebees, mosquitos, fleas and ticks are natural. Hell, syphilis, gonnorhea, ebola, plague, smallpox, polio and COVID are natural. Body odor and earwax are natural.

    I really like that hammock I can not sleep in a normal cocoon hammock... thank you for sharing. A tip on splitting your firewood to save time and your back, I take a bungee strap and stretch it around my bigger wood rounds then split it . That way it does not blow apart a you have to pick up every piece 20 tines each . Later mate

    Another cool option for a flat bottom hammock is the Haven tent - I got one a few years ago and it's awesome. The only addition I'd need to make is that an extra tarp overtop wouldn't be out of place.
    This system seems cool as well, i like the sitting option.

    I found when trying to split a big log if you take some section off the outside of the log first, the log looses integrity (?) and is just generally easier to split. Or something like that, don’t quote me.

  • @ThePaulv12

    There is a hand tool for splitting log rounds like that. It's called a block or log splitter. It's like an axe but the head's far broader like a wedge forcing the log to split rather than the narrow axe head burrowing in.

    Andy, another great video and really interesting to see the Amok hammock, I think it looks pretty good, and I’m looking forward to your full review of it. Just a thought, but I wonder if it might be worth stashing a heavier axe, with a longer handle, in your wood shed as it may make easier work of splitting the larger logs than your current one. Cheers.

    I am intrigued by this hammock, I also am a side/foetal sleeper and can usually manage something in a gathered end hammock. Certainly better than on the floor. The trick for me has been to get a big one. 10-11ft length minimum (I’m 6’2 )with a good sag setup using a structural ridgeline and underquilt, no mat.

    • @wilkinson6212
      @wilkinson6212 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Instead of this Amok style hammock, you should look into bridge hammocks. You can use more standard hammock products without having to use Amok specific gear. I have a Dutchware Banyon. Outstanding product. You can use an underquilt or a sleeping pad for warmth.

  • @TheGazzatron941
    @TheGazzatron941 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I put a DD hammock ground sheet underneath which gives me something to stand on without boots whilst getting in and out. To get in I stand to the left of it facing the foot end, grab the middle strap on the right with my right hand and the middle strap on the left with my left hand then kind of slide in. You get used to it, finding your centre of gravity gets easier. I do the same getting out.
