I think it's admirable that you post information intended to help others, but I'll echo several of the other commenters in saying that it really isn't necessary to take your car apart to replace a headlight bulb. I'm a fairly normal-sized western male, 1m80, with typical-sized hands, and I was able to replace both bulbs without taking the car apart or, as suggested by one commenter, moving the fuse box temporarily. It helps to do the one on the right side of the car first, then you become familiar with the principles involved. The one on the left side is much more difficult, but with patience and a lot of fiddling and a lot of swearing it finally works. One thing that I haven't seen noted elsewhere (maybe because it's obvious to everyone but me), is that you can easily see if the bulb is properly positioned by looking into the headlight.
Hey Rennie, thanks for your comments. You are absolutely right that certain combinations of the Yaris seem to have more room than others between the headlight and fuse-box. Ours had about 1/2" of room, which wasn't enough to get the rubber boot and bulb around the corner. As I mentioned in other comments and the video description, the passenger side does have good access, so it is possible to replace that one without the full removal. It is advisable to replace both sides as a set, so I show both being done. I wasn't comfortable moving the fuse-box around myself, but the bumper comes off easily, and the light fixture can be removed which makes the process easy. If my daughter could do this in 30 minutes with my coaching, I figured it was worth showing others. I DO wish TH-cam would allow for updates to a video after the fact with changes to the 'how-to' aspects.

I used your video to change the headlights on my new (to me) '08 Yaris. Gotta say, you did a great job explaining everything. I'm a gal who had never messed with anything that had to deal with the body, but popping the bumper myself was so satisfying. I have been teaching myself a bit of repair, so this was right up my alley. So thank you! Next jobs...tightening the e-brake cable and replacing the roof weatherproof stripping.

Bro, super kudos for having a girly girl do it. And the tidbit about not touching the battery. I came here to troubleshoot, and I used your video for reference. Problem solved. Thank you!
Pawg Lover clearly I just changed my headlight, that’s why I commented. And no matter how much gas mileage it gets or how small it is, doesn’t change the fact that it’s a huge pain in the ass to change the headlights. eXaCtLy.. lol
Thank you for the video! After following the instructions once and learning exactly where everything was on the right side, I was able to change the bulb on the left side without removing the bumper and headlight enclosure on a 2006 4-door Yaris. It's possible, but you basically have to disassemble everything once to figure out how to do it without taking the everything apart.
Glad it helped! It is true that if you really know what you are doing, the passenger side is not difficult to change. The driver side, with the fuse box right behind the bulb makes it really hard unless you have very thin hands and really know what you are doing already...
I have a Toyota Yaris 2009, went to buy the lightbulb thinking I could do it myself, had no idea you had to remove the entire bumper.. Called a car shop $100 for labor not including the bulb.. Thank you for this! I’m doing it myself!
This video is the only way to do it. Thank you so much for sharing! It may take a little time, but far superior to any videos that tried to accomplish this task without partially removing the bumper are asking the near impossible. I miss the days where you were able to access the bulbs easily, pull them out and replace them in about a minute or two. Oh, well that is what happens when you want smaller, compact cars. There is little space for hands. 😊
Thank you so much for this video. Just saved me a trip to the auto mechanics. I was totally stumped on how to remove the headlight because I didn't know of that third screw on the side just above the tire, as well as the spring that clamped down the light. My 2007 Yaris is my favorite car I've ever owned but they certainly don't make it easy to work on the car with everything so tightly crammed in there, lol.
I went to an express oil change place today to get my passenger side bulb changed, and the guy, Josh, refused to remove the casing and follow the process as you so wonderfully did on this video. I tried to explain what was needed, but he finagled the bulb removal and re-install by sticking his hand through the back of the light connector. I sure hope this guy didn't tear up anything. I should have videoed his unscrupulous conduct. Thank you for the video!
The passenger side has much more room to work in compared to the drivers side, so it is quite possible to replace that one without the removal of the fixture. The drivers side has the fuse box located right behind the bulb, so close it is really hard to get the boot off. You can try working on the passenger side after watching the video to understand what is required, and then try working on the drivers side to see if you can get the boot off and bulb off without removing the fixture.
@@DansWay Just a thankful update: the new bulb which the express oil guy installed...failed! In any event, today, with The Creator's help, I removed both headlights, and installed new bulbs. Whew!! I am so grateful for video's like yours; and thankful that I was guided it it. Take care!
Thank you for the video. I have a Mexican Yaris 2009 and change the lights. I fought a lot but now with your video I'm going to fight less greetings from Monterrey, Mexico Gerardo Coronado
Just used this video as reference for changing the bulb. Big thanks for this! Advice for future light bulb switchers is to buy more of the plastic clippers - they were destroyed in the process 😅
So I just did ours. The Yaris is a great car. Mine's an '07 with half a million k's on clock; still runs great. But replacing the passenger side headlight would make a nun swear. =\
thank you for posting this. i'm about to go outside and switch my bulbs for some brighter LEDs. the captions had problems, but otherwise a really good video. good, good, good info!
I'd say it is common for the bulbs to die within a timeframe, like 3-6 months. Both dying 'at the same time' would be strange, unless you were in an accident or bottomed-out really hard, shaking / breaking the filaments in the bulb. I'd recommend upgrading to LEDs for the dramatic improvement the provide. Take a look at these: geni.us/YarisLEDheadlight_5-14
@@DansWay no accidents so I'm fearing there might be some kind of electronic problem that caused them to fry, because the right rear buld is also out so I don't know if it's a good idea to change them. Thanks for the link I'll definitely order them.
@@ych5206 Oh man! Yah, you could have a bad alternator regulator allowing high voltage spikes. Honestly I'd expect other parts of the car to fail in that case, the ECU for one. If it is just bulbs, is there a chance you just reached that time in the car's life? How old is it, and how long since you replaced the bulbs?
@@DansWayas far as I know it's just the bulb, everything is rolling fine. i've had it for two years and never replaced them in that time, I don't know about the previous owner. The car's more than 12 yo. What's bothering me is that my high beams still work, it's just the low that are fried. Are they separate bulbs?
There is an important lesson here about committing to the job. I was so bummed out that it would take this many steps but it is very light work. Thank you for the video
ive just done mine here in the uk! could of done with soe of your sunshine. I replaced all the bulbs so hopefully I wont have to pull it apart again for a while.quite easy to do ,took about 30 minutes between rain showers.thanks for the video.
If the actual whole lens of the headlight is cloudy. I'm guessing I'll have to replace the whole headlamp system? Great video by the way I've had my Yaris for 15 years now and 278,000 KMS these videos come in handy over the years. Cheers.
You could try to polish the lense to see if you can save it. Mine had micro-cracks all throughout so I replaced them. Dude!!! Thank you so much! My wife has the same exact year and I was left scratching my head trying to figure out how to get to the bulb in such a small space or remove the headlight assembly. Your video saved me a bunch of time and aggravation!
@@DansWay I should mention that I've only owned my car for a month or so. Otherwise, there's a good chance I would've broken some by now. 😏 I see that those kits are pretty cheap and have a nice variety too. My mind is at ease knowing that if I do break a few it's not a big deal. Thanks again for the great video.
Yeh the Yaris is a great little vehicle. Not too pricey. Great on fuel. Very reliable as well IMO. My 2008 has given me no trouble whatsoever over the past 12 years. I've only ever had to perform routine maintenance like changing the oil, tyres, brake pads on one occasion & a belt or two. Oh yeh... and the headlight bulb. Well, we can only wish they'd made it a little easier to perform a simple light bulb change. But it's all down to the compact design philosophy I suppose. In my old Holden Commodore it was just a matter of reaching around to the back of the headlight module. Plenty of room. No fuss. I don't know whether it was really necessary to make the rear of the Yaris headlight assembly so inaccessible, just to keep things compact. Maybe other manufacturers have done better. But like I said it's a great vehicle. We have to take the good with the bad.
Well just replaced 2 bulbs in an 07 Yaris. I didn’t have to take anything apart it was right there not even that hard to get to. Pull the plug , boot and unclip the bulb put the new one in.
I don't believe you! There is no way to reach these bulbs let alone deal with the springs in a timely manner! Looks like the Japanese Toyota engineers took the spring hold down idea from a 1959 Ford or Chevy! SAD!🤣
thank you for teaching your child and the folks that watch this to do things on their own just a step closer towards independence (also saving a lot of money) I bought a used car recently, put about 1000$ in parts on that car, labour and workshop prices for parts would have cost me an extra 4-5k
Very good. Thanks for the encouragement. I definitely want my kids to understand their cars enough to take basic care of them (filters, oil, wiper blades, etc.), and hopefully not get ripped off by repair shops when they need bigger work done.

Thank you for the very useful video. I've seen other people's videos but they just replacing the headlight bulb from the drivers side not the passenger side. But I found your video where you are telling us step by step how to open the light and installing the bulb. 5 STARS 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I reviewed a few other videos to change my lightbulb and ended up having to remove the light assembly. No you don't have to remove the whole assembly as others have mentioned, but for my '07 yaris, the rubber gasket would not pull off as easily shown in multiple videos and the clip wouldn't easily pop off (the one holding the bulb in place) AND the space is very limited even my smaller hands. Had to use a flat head and dig it up the bottom of the gasket where the bulb sits before it finally came off. Then the clip wouldn't just easily pinch in to release the bulb- had to use flat head as well. This vid was SUPER helpful!! This was def and fun husband and wife job! Thank you!!
Thanks for the video. What type of light bulb do you recommend for Yaris 2007 (HB) for headlights and also for the headlights in the back? Thank you!!!!
😬 I have a 2007 Yaris and haven’t had to change them yet… they are pretty low though … I guess I should change them before they go out on me in the middle of the night
The battery isn't immediately behind the bulb. The fuse box is what is right behind the bulb. Some have been able to wrangle the bulb out without removing everything else, but my hands were not small enough to get it done.
@@DansWaycheers all a good learning exercise I guess just a bummer if a bulb needs changing in the winter when most bulbs conveniently decide to pop unfortunately.
This is so odd to me. On my 08 yaris sedan i can change the light bulds without removing anything. I just replaced both in 8 minutes exactly. Sorry you got the short straw!
when installing the new bulbs, is there a proper position or does it only go one way. just re-did them again , the first time were in any direction but correct. i would travel with the beams on high and barley see the ground in front of the car. in the video you mentioned the three prongs, are they up or down and once in is there a way to adjust or is there no need to adjust
The bulbs metal flange is notched so it can’t go in wrong assuming it is all the way in. Perhaps it wasn’t all the way down. If you removed the fixture, then be sure the bolts are all aligned properly. I’m not aware of any screws that adjust the light like on other cars.
Do you have to replace the clips you popped out with new ones (the "push in center, pull out ring" pieces) or can they just be reinserted? I had walmart replace my headlamps and they did a poor job of reassembling it all so the headlight assembly isn't flush.
They are reusable, but can break as they age. Replacements are not expensive if you find the right size. The kit shown in the description has the most common sizes of several styles.
Just letting everyone know that it is the 2nd time now that I replace the headlight bulb without going through all of this. It is a 2010 yaris sedan and you can do everything in 5 minutes no need to take off the bumper… i don’t understand why you can’t simply squeeze your hand in and do it instead of this.
Thank you for posting this, I have a 2010 Yaris and was looking for a howto video, best one I have found. Very helpful video. Both low beams went out recently and am getting ready to change them. What a pain to change the headlights! Thumbs up and shared to FB.
Hey Doc, thanks for the comment and repost! Do note that the passenger side doesn't require the full fixture removal vs. the driver side that is otherwise impossible to get to...
Thank you for this. Do i need to buy new plugs tho? Im watching this because my mom and dads yaris has a broken headlight and i want to help. Its soooooo much easier on my civic. 0 tools needed and changed a light bulb within 30 seconds on my car
I did it without removing the headlight. The rubber fitting was a nightmare to pull out but I got it out. Thanks for showing how to remove the bulb as the clamps were difficult without it.
Yah it is technically possible. Removing the bumper seems extreme, but ultimately it is easier to access the bulb and feel like it is installed properly.
Thanks! The bulb grease keeps out moisture to keep the contacts clean which keeps them from getting hot and damaging the socket. Just don't forget to top off the blinker fluid while your in there! ;-)
PSA: both lights can be replaced without disassembling anything. It’s a bit tight but I have pretty big hands and was able to manage fairly easily so most people should be fine.
Yes, I was just logging in specifically to say this. The folks in this video seem like great, friendly people, but unfortunately the method they demonstrate is WAY too much work! I worry that people are out there doing the headlight bulb replacement this way--possibly causing more damage to their cars and not knowing what to do about it--when in reality this is LESS THAN a 5-minute job requiring no tools at all. :(
You are correct; there is no disassembly needed at all if you are only replacing the bulb, and that is by design. There is no need to free the entire headlight assembly unless you are replacing the headlight assembly itself.
Thanks, Dan! And special thanks to Candace Coolio for giving this 60-year-old (NOT mechanically inclined) dude the chutzpah to yank the freakin' bumper halfway off of his Yaris in order to change a lightbulb. Having your daughter do the actual work is a small bit of genius, because it helps boost our confidence that we can do it too. The process was actually pretty straightforward, thanks to this video. (And, yes, it's worth the few extra minutes to pull your bumper out if you're replacing the driver-side bulb.) One tiny note: there's no need to remove the plastic rivet from the passenger-side wheel well. With the other rivets removed, there's plenty enough play in the bumper to free the driver-side headlamp assembly.
Your details are so much appreciated - about to do this at home, versus $100 for labour. On a side note, the engineer that designed this should be arrested and charged with cruel and unusual punishment for creating such a complicated process to change something that frequently needs changing.
So I'm disgusted now at how much I paid to have this done - knowing the clips and bolts literally too about 15 minutes from start to finish, a huge thank you. (also took your lead on having the cool collection of clips with a short trip to Amazon).
U don't actually need to remove any piece from the car, just unplug the bulb, take the rubber out, unlock the clip, remove the bulb, put new hulb, secure the clip, put the rubber back in and plug the bulb
This video is funny because you dont have to take anything apart. Just simply change the bulbs 🤣, the hand can be fitted there (not easily but its possible). Changed two bulbs in 4mins.
👏👏👏👏👏👏hats off to the both of you Dad awesome taking the time to teach your daughter everyday do it your self maintenance. Miss Candice ,Well done you did a fantastic job changing out the lightbulb in your car, it has quite a few procedures to changing something so simple. You have a #Dad educating his daughter be proud of him👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👌
I'm getting ready to replace the headlight assemblies (fogged up and bulb burned out) so upgrading to all LED bulbs. What size pins/clips were you using? I need to replace a few that I already know are missing.
Dave M you shouldn’t have to damage the clips if you just push in the middle pin before removing them. I don’t know what size they are off hand. I bought a kit of parts with lots of sizes available.
This works, but pivoting the small fuse box out of the way is less work for the passenger side. For the driver side, remove the battery before pivoting the main fuse box out of the way.
Or, learn how to change the bulbs without disassemble anything... I've got a 2007, I NEVER removed absolutely nothing to replace them. And believe me I changed them more times than I would like to admit. :-(
I wish I had a dad like that. My dad never taught me anything. I hope that girl realizes she’s really lucky. I learned all that bullshit on my own and thanks to youtube.
Hey, I’m sorry your Dad didn’t know how or care enough to spend time with you like this. I know I enjoy it very much myself. She and I think so differently so that’s sometimes hard, but in the end we love each other very much.
My Scion xA is the same.....actually no surprise as the cars are nearly identical mechanically. The term you're looking for is that the "bumper cover" needs to have it's top clips removed to allow juggling the top portion to swing forward and slightly down to gain better access to the headlights (housing) and bulbs. Same deal.....easy enough to lift the center of the retaining "plugs" ( 2-piece, the center needs to first be lifted "up"...with a screwdriver blade, then the bottom piece pops out. If you simply pop them out from the bottom piece, without first prying up the center, you RISK breaking the whole push-in plug). Need to remove these plugs and THEN look at the ENDS of the bumper cover as they wrap around toward the wheel-well. Then lift back slightly the black plastic inner fender splash guards, and remove the vertical (pointed UP) screws that hold the ends of the bumper cover on,,,one on each end. At this point the whole bumper cover can tilt forward/down like it's on a hinge. Not all that difficult if you know all this....just a bit of a hassle.
This was so easy. Much easier than changing a bulb in the lamp in the house when I need to unscrew it and screw a new bulb in. Like who has just laying around a panel popper and a giant box full of body clips?!?
If I were you, wear plastic gloves, pay extra for long life bulbs and replace all the other bulbs I saw in the headlight. They are only $3 each. The FHSC should not certify a car requiring this much repair for a required safety feature. Subaru, for a few years, had headlight bulbs burning out 4 - 8 months. Replacement required the front wheel removal + an hour labor. It got so bad they had a special LL bulb made and subaru did it for free or the FHSC was going to make it a recall. My 2019 Rav4 has a 14 year LED headlight (as rated by hours of use).
Yah if you have enough skill to get it out. I have a feeling some cars have the fuse-box placed closer than others. Hers was nearly touching the back of the bulb...
The way I do it is much better than this. I don't remove anything i just shove my hand in there tearing my skin and yelling at the car and getting mad at the engineers. That's the proper way to do it.
Only takes forever...

thats light work my friend, it could be worse lol
根気KENCHIMUYO it couldn’t be much worse changing a head light. Of course it could be some other part, but we’re talking head lights. You sayin nothin
kick to each his own yo, I love my Yaris! And the long ass headlight process!
I used this video to replace the headlights on my 2008 Yaris, thank you for the upload!
Hey Travis, glad this was helpful!
Thank you! My daughter and I just changed her headlight bulbs thanks to this video!
Glad it helped!
@@DansWay Thank you so much for the reassurance!
I fought a lot but now with your video I'm going to fight less greetings from Monterrey, Mexico
Gerardo Coronado
Hey, thanks for the comment! Glad this was helpful.
Just used this video as reference for changing the bulb. Big thanks for this! Advice for future light bulb switchers is to buy more of the plastic clippers - they were destroyed in the process 😅
Good advice! Those clips definitely get brittle with time, and removal isn't always easy...
Thanks you for this video I just put my light bulb on .
So I just did ours. The Yaris is a great car. Mine's an '07 with half a million k's on clock; still runs great. But replacing the passenger side headlight would make a nun swear. =\
Lol
Not a nun but lets just say I lost count
...I think I'm going to pay my brother to do it. Master Toyota mechanic. I have not got the patience.
Thank you so much for the video !!!! My daughter and I changed both headlights and bulbs on her car, and it went so smooth thanks to your video.
thank you for posting this. i'm about to go outside and switch my bulbs for some brighter LEDs. the captions had problems, but otherwise a really good video. good, good, good info!
Hiya ... Changed mine yesterday and followed your post. Fantastic ,thanking you :)
You're very welcome!
Thanks for the video.
Both my headlight bulbs are dead at the same time, is it a common occurence that both of them die at the same time?
@@ych5206 I'm pretty sure there are separate filaments inside the bulb, so same outer glass but separate contacts on the bottom.
Awesome relationship you both have together . I have two daughters of my own . Good job
There is an important lesson here about committing to the job. I was so bummed out that it would take this many steps but it is very light work. Thank you for the video
Thanks for the comment Mo! Yah, lots of steps, but none are particularly difficult. Especially if my daughter can do it all herself with instruction!
@@DansWay no knock on her that girl was sharp! Thank you sir
I have a 08 sedan so i dont know if if its a different setup but luckily i was able to stick my hand in and pull them out.
ive just done mine here in the uk! could of done with soe of your sunshine. I replaced all the bulbs so hopefully I wont have to pull it apart again for a while.quite easy to do ,took about 30 minutes between rain showers.thanks for the video.
Sounds like it was a good idea to replace all the bulbs vs. just the main bulb while you have it all opened up.
I have videos on both of these topics if you are interested: Replacing the headlight - th-cam.com/video/uBYUh-ys92Q/w-d-xo.html Restoring a Headlight - th-cam.com/video/Df15D8IyZug/w-d-xo.html

I'm using this video to change out both bulbs that came burned on a Yaris I just bought, thanks to both of you for the knowledge 👍
Hey that’s great! Glad this was helpful 👍🏼
Dude!!! Thank you so much! My wife has the same exact year and I was left scratching my head trying to figure out how to get to the bulb in such a small space or remove the headlight assembly. Your video saved me a bunch of time and aggravation!
Great video.
Can you show me where is your holder for bar that holds hood up?
What is the position of the bar when hood is down.
Sorry to say I don’t have access to this car as she now has a Prius...
@@DansWay thank you for answering. Cheers
Where did you buy that kit of clips from? I don't think I've broken any yet but, with a 16 year old car, it's bound to happen eventually.
The kit is available in the link I put in the video description above. Good for you that you haven’t broken any yet!
@@DansWay hey thanks man. Great descriptive step-by-step video btw! Liked and subscribed. 👍
@@DansWay I should mention that I've only owned my car for a month or so. Otherwise, there's a good chance I would've broken some by now. 😏 I see that those kits are pretty cheap and have a nice variety too. My mind is at ease knowing that if I do break a few it's not a big deal. Thanks again for the great video.
i go back to this video every time i need to change a headlight and always impress myself 😊 thank you for making it simple ❤
Thanks for being a regular! Glad you have the courage to take this on. ❤️💪🏼
Yeah as soon as they see how easier it was all the hard work they were doing and I think my challenge is going to be putting the clip back
I don't believe you! There is no way to reach these bulbs let alone deal with the springs in a timely manner! Looks like the Japanese Toyota engineers took the spring hold down idea from a 1959 Ford or Chevy! SAD!🤣
Good job Dad for teaching your girl how to do this!
And MeeToo!
Thanks for watching and teaching your Daughter as well!
Thank you for sharing. Just changed the lights on my yaris. Very helpful video.
thank you for teaching your child and the folks that watch this to do things on their own
just a step closer towards independence (also saving a lot of money)
I bought a used car recently, put about 1000$ in parts on that car, labour and workshop prices for parts would have cost me an extra 4-5k
Very good. Thanks for the encouragement. I definitely want my kids to understand their cars enough to take basic care of them (filters, oil, wiper blades, etc.), and hopefully not get ripped off by repair shops when they need bigger work done.
@@DansWay I wish there where more parents like yourself
because not only does it save a lot of money, if you start to teach them young on something like household appliances and stuff it will give them better spatial awareness and train problem solving skills
irregardless, your kids can be proud to have a caring father , and I hope you can be proud to have kids that listen to their parents advice
@@nathanwest2304 Amen to all of that!
Thanks. I tried replacing the headlights both with removing the headlight and leaving it in place. This was definitely the easier method.
Thanks for the confirmation that removing the fixture really makes the job less painful and 'doable'...
Your kid is hilarious! Good parenting, making them fix their car.
Thank you for the very useful video. I've seen other people's videos but they just replacing the headlight bulb from the drivers side not the passenger side. But I found your video where you are telling us step by step how to open the light and installing the bulb. 5 STARS 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Whats the kit for the clips can you link?
Please check the description for the links.
I would take a look at the following high brightness LED: geni.us/YarisLEDheadlight_5-14
Excellent video for changing bulbs. Just had to change one in my 2007 Yaris. I guess it's not so bad if you only have to do it every 13 years or so!
😬 I have a 2007 Yaris and haven’t had to change them yet… they are pretty low though … I guess I should change them before they go out on me in the middle of the night
Would removing the battery not give you enough access?
The battery isn't immediately behind the bulb. The fuse box is what is right behind the bulb. Some have been able to wrangle the bulb out without removing everything else, but my hands were not small enough to get it done.
@@DansWaycheers all a good learning exercise I guess just a bummer if a bulb needs changing in the winter when most bulbs conveniently decide to pop unfortunately.
This is so odd to me. On my 08 yaris sedan i can change the light bulds without removing anything. I just replaced both in 8 minutes exactly. Sorry you got the short straw!
Yah, some models have no issues, while this one has the bulb right up against the fuse-box...
Thank you sooooo much for posting this video guyz. It saved me a lot of drama removing the defective bulbs. Cheers... 😅
No problem 👍 Nobody would expect it to be so hard right!
when installing the new bulbs, is there a proper position or does it only go one way. just re-did them again , the first time were in any direction but correct. i would travel with the beams on high and barley see the ground in front of the car. in the video you mentioned the three prongs, are they up or down and once in is there a way to adjust or is there no need to adjust
Excellent! You even showed me how to remove my bumper cover which I need to repair. Thanks. Subscribed.
Glad to have you follow along!
Thanks for the video I’ve had my light out for months now because I opened the bonnet and thought sod that lol.I will try your way tomorrow so thanks.
The sedan and hatchback have completely different nose construction. Whole different front end too
Just letting you know it depends on the year and model mister know it all lol
Very cool that you're teaching your daughter this stuff. Thanks for sharing I'm hoping this will save me $300 +
Which tools did you use or what kind of socket wrench did you use
Thank you for posting this, I have a 2010 Yaris and was looking for a howto video, best one I have found. Very helpful video. Both low beams went out recently and am getting ready to change them. What a pain to change the headlights! Thumbs up and shared to FB.
Hey Doc, thanks for the comment and repost! Do note that the passenger side doesn't require the full fixture removal vs. the driver side that is otherwise impossible to get to...
This video was very informative. Thank you very much for your help. From someone who is not very great with cars this was very helpful.
Thank you for this. Do i need to buy new plugs tho? Im watching this because my mom and dads yaris has a broken headlight and i want to help. Its soooooo much easier on my civic. 0 tools needed and changed a light bulb within 30 seconds on my car
I wouldn't expect you to need to replace the connectors or black rubber cover.
Did the same, w/o removing the front plastic. It's finickety, but doable.
Sooooo awesome. Ive been wanting to change the whole headlight as in better looking head light. Bulb grease why?
(And, yes, it's worth the few extra minutes to pull your bumper out if you're replacing the driver-side bulb.)
One tiny note: there's no need to remove the plastic rivet from the passenger-side wheel well. With the other rivets removed, there's plenty enough play in the bumper to free the driver-side headlamp assembly.
Hey thanks for the comment and suggestion. It is true that the passenger side doesn’t really require the removal of the fixture. Good tip!
Is this a H4? Or H11?? Ty for your answer!!!
I'm amazed how often I pull from that kit of parts. I've emptied the smallest size in just the past three years... Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks so much! This was so helpful!! For readers, another item you might need is the plug grease.
Thanks Candace
Thanks for making the vid, but was the bulb grease supposed to go there? I thought it wasn’t supposed to go on the electrical parts?
U don't actually need to remove any piece from the car, just unplug the bulb, take the rubber out, unlock the clip, remove the bulb, put new hulb, secure the clip, put the rubber back in and plug the bulb
I thought it would be easier than that! Thanks for the video. Think I'll get a professional to do it.
It's easy. Or at least that is what he said...
You have a #Dad educating his daughter be proud of him👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👌
Thanks to this vdo, easy to change headlight bulb on my brothers car for inspection on monday
Glad it helped
Thank U
This helped a ton in the side of the road 😊
Oh man, what happened? More than the bulb burning out?
Easy peasy. Done in under 20 mins. Thanks guys!
Thanks for sharing. My #3 daughter and just did the same.
This works, but pivoting the small fuse box out of the way is less work for the passenger side. For the driver side, remove the battery before pivoting the main fuse box out of the way.
Before you buy a car, see if you can easily replace the light bulbs. If not, keep looking. These car designers have a lot to answer for.
Cheers for this one. Really helped us out, but what a ballache just to change a bulb?! Blimey!
Thank you so much! What I learned in this video helped me replace the whole headlight assembly!
Glad this was helpful!
I totally agree with your suggestions! Thanks Mike!
Thanks to this video I actually saw I can do the change in under the minute if you are finger skilled enough.
Yah if you have enough skill to get it out. I have a feeling some cars have the fuse-box placed closer than others. Hers was nearly touching the back of the bulb...
Congratulations Candice now you are an expert in mechanics.Next work change the oil and the filter.
Pat Bed, she already does!
What is that thing you put in the plugs??? Dialectric grease?
They call it 'bulb grease', so yah basically a protectant to keep the contacts from corroding...
