Do you know how much hardware and software upgrades I had to do to my 2JZGTE swapped Mk3 Supra to get it to make 668whp? And here you have a simple flash tune on an S58 engine pumping out 650whp w/ no bolt ons or ECU swaps. This is MADNESS...
So interesting to see how the ECU is responding to boost increase and pulling so many degrees on timing. From a tuning perspective, annoying I'm sure. However, it is very reassuring nonetheless knowing BMW made these ECU's to keep the car safe. I'm sure there is a lot of background data embedded in the software to make sure these things don't blow up. Looks like they knew we'd be planning on having fun with these S58's haha. First coming into the BMW world; it seemed that far too many owners praised OTS maps, tuners seemed very limited, and very few understood the value of fueling. Quite scary from the outside in tbh. The transmission is entirely taken from M5 F90, so it is capable of withstanding pretty much power increase without issues, considering ‘just’ three liters.
Hmmm how is a 500hp car making 480-490whp at all 4 wheels stock. And don’t say BMW under rate their engines as the stock performance times match up to a crank 500hp car.
Bmw underrates their horsepower figures. The stock performance times are also underrated, car and driver or real life drag race videos show the truth. The brand operates on the principle of undersell and over deliver
Is this the X3M Competition? it looks like it. I think i'd save some $ by getting the M40i and putting a tune on that get 80% of the power for 1/2 the price. =)
Car is completely different. Owned both. Staggered 21s on the m40i loaded and just got a comp. zero comparison. handling isn’t close, even with the most aggressive set of tires on the m40i.
@@michaelmesolellaesq it's barley good enough for a daily driver. M40i is better suited for the streets. X3m is better on the track almost. M40i is quicker off the line. But x3m will destroy in the higher end. Too bad it's speed limiter is 155mph. Talking stock mind you. I like the m40i better. Do you agree? We have really bad roads where I'm from.
@@milehigh3054 yes the m40i is a better daily for sure, but in no way is it quicker. It might feel quicker, but tweak the tranny setting on the M and that is over with. The M is better in nearly every way except for a firmer ride but you are buying an M car, it is what it is. Different tires will change that and/or a rim & tire swap - my winter M rims and tires the suspension was beautiful and floated. The X3M's suspension is really just made worse by the aggressive Mich Pilot 4s. I will say this, I do love both but for very different reasons. The M is much more luxurious, way nicer materials inside (much more upscale, better displays, way better seats) and the mechanicals, suspension link ups, and bracing, just to start, are much better. The M picks up where the m40i leaves off. ITs really the only easy way to explain it. You take an m40i around an onramp hammering it, in sport plus in all settings, that is the M cars "comfort' mode default. The M does what the m40i strains to accomplish on its highest settings. I love the m40i otherwise as a daily. The LCI M gave the suspension more travel in comfort so it will address the firmness, and the mechanical tweaks will make it just as much a daily beast as a trackable SUV. People talk about some lag in the M, but, just like the tranny settings in the m40i, the M has the gear selector to increase the transmission aggressiveness and in so doing, that point is moot. Driving them back to back when I still had the m40i, its not even close. That said, I still love the m40i 21's I had better (and they are wider in the back). With the Dinan axel-back exhaust on the M, its even better :)

The reason I said that was only because I saw a video m40i vs x3m and the m40i was beating off the line everytime. But that could of been because of the driver lol. Really happy to hear from someone who has owned both. I trust your opinion vs a yt vid. Lol My m40i came with 19s on winter tires. It sticks good but only rated to 100mph I think. I absolutely love my m40i. I thought it was a competition model when I bought it. Because it had pointy mirrors and big tall red paddle shifters but after some quick research I found it to be just a m40i not a competition. I bought it used with 7k miles. It's crazy fast for me. And really it's mostly the wife's car to be a daily driver. So in some aspects I'm glad it's not the x3m. But maybe next time I'll look into getting a true m class car. After driving such a fine car. Driving anything else just won't make me happy anymore. 😆

Mos def but depends on how much skin u got in the game with whoever your advisor is at your local BMW service center. RK tuned my 650 gran coupe & BMW still replaced my engine for free after a fuel injector recall while it was tuned n all.
Hopefully RKTunes sorted out their tunes. After I got a RKTunes tune on my supercharged 540i, 600 miles later my fully built engine blew. Reporting just the facts. RKTunes did change the RMS tune though

The car is probably on the knock limit in stock form. It will likely need higher octane gas to add power reliably.
