Thanks for some of the clean demo sounds on this guitar. I love to hear what a guitar truly sounds like without a blanket of distortion. As soon as it goes into distortion land it could be any guitar. But this guitar is a fine sounding example.
I have relearned how to play guitar from watching Lemmo , and today's lesson was inspirational , luv the P90's , just straight ahead rock n roll , open em up and crank it , use the entire board and every chord imaginable. TV yellow is a great color and these old Gibby's just have a sound that is unmistakable , so raw and crunchy , right up my alley , great demo , great GOTD , thanks guys.

I just got the 202p inspired by Gibson epiphone les Paul special tv yellow and it's freaking great ! Good thing too because I can't afford $1,599 let alone $12,000 for the vintage ones !

The story about tv yellow showing up better on camera is just that; a story. TV stands for Translucent Varnish. The television thing waa all the rage back then & Gibson even made amps that looked like tvs.
Oh and they dont yellow from cig smoke in bars at gigs. Fiction. UV light and oxygen cause the yellowing.

Two sides to every story... my brother was in the TV industry (NBC) and when I purchased a used '59 TV Jr., he mentioned that when someone wore, lets say, a white dress shirt, it make a horrible smear on the screen, so, to make something look white on B&W TV .... Huntley & Brinkley wore either a light blue, light green or light yellow shirt... problem solved, their shirts looked a bleached white. So did these guitars.
@@zankyalbo2208 Fair enough but I can hardly think a pro musician successful enough to be on TV in the 50s would play a Special. Prefer the reason that it was like the guitar you saw Les play on his TV show
I got a new Tv Special, which hopefully will become a vintage guitar in the future, but arguably these are some of the easiest guitars to play.
Nice guitar. The new original series versions are also surprisingly good too.
Is it just me or did this "student model" LP special sound better than most of the LP Standards and Customs presented on GOTD???

Lemmo the Looper. Excellent as always. Just got me a brandnew LP Special TV-Yellow. This thing rocks! I would sell my grandma to the devil just for the pickups of this 56 🤩
My morning was going good with my hazlenut coffee and 2 slices of French bread toast with peanut butter and jam until I came up this and it got WWWAAAAAAAAY BETTER!!!!! I wanted to reach through the screen and grab that guitar and pull it back to me!!!!! Sounded Great.

Lemo,we know your a terrific guitar player but WHY use effects to mask the True Tone of the guitar,especially vintage? We buy vintage because of the TONE

Saw the $10,900 price tag at the 26 second mark. Good info, helps to get a better understanding of these vintage beauties. Wish that happened more often. Dont treat the value of these axes as Norms dirty little secret!

God, those clean tones are *SO* good. You simply cannot get that sound out of any other guitar. And yet, it can still shred with the best of 'em if you crank up the gain. It's really the best of both worlds. My first electric guitar is going to be a Les Paul Special as soon as I've got enough money to buy one. 🙂
Michael is a true troubadour, give him an original production series model guitar and his passion just explodes through his fingers. Why would he want to do anything else? A constant flow of rare and unique guitars as well as current production. Doesn't even have to buy them. I'm certain Norm is willing to lend a piece for a day or two for recording purposes. You know. Advertising, all instruments and equipment are supplied by Norman's Rare Guitars, etc.
I could watch Lemmo play EVH all day.

This is some of Michael's best playing. Love the originality of this little jam. It sure shows that a 56 les paul special is not just a rock n roll cowboy chord machine. that's one reason these things fetch the BUCKS now.
Man these tv specials and lp juniors are some mini monsters. The sound they give off for a small body guitar is unreal. Dam good quality.
The body isn’t really smaller it just doesn’t have a carved top attached to it that the Les Paul standard does.

TV Yellow. I get it now. I always wondered why they called it that
Maybe someone at Gibson saw a butterscotch blackguard Tele on B&W TV and thought, "Hey that looks cool."
I prefer the other potential reasons. That it looked like the finish on the old TV sets. Or best one is that it looked like the guitar Les played on his popular TV show. He played a lot of Goldtops before playing Customs
