I'm a U.S. citizen currently residing in China. Students and friends have asked me if I liked Chinese food. I explained to them that I first ate in a Chinese restaurant when I was 12; it was in San Francisco. For many years, I've enjoyed countless Chinese restaurants in the States. I never tasted Chinese food until I came to China!
People should look at this... a rich lady who had maids and servants was willing to get her hands dirty and start her business and hold it even if it was not working out at first. When some poor people think they are too good to do manual labor. There was a video some time ago about the difficulties of getting work and a black person said no black person would pick fruit or dig holes.

I would love to see a segment on Native American food! The original American food! Curious as to what it is... why aren’t there any restaurants? We see so many Native American casinos. Why not something their food ? I bet it’s closely related to Mexican food.
If you’re genuinely curious, I would look up Jakob Lazzaro. He interviewed someone who explained how the government systematically removed food systems from native Americans. Most indigenous people live on reservations, in land that has no irrigation and no viable soil to grow crops. Many live in poverty. Opening a restaurant is also really expensive and business loans are not easy to get. Where would you even get the collateral? I didn’t read the full interview transcript (it’s also on audio), but I think it also mentions a cultural reason, which is to keep their customs and traditions as something sacred. I could be totally wrong on this second point but I remember learning in high school that some indigenous people guarded themselves to a point where they didn’t even take photos of themselves or they lose a piece of their soul. Obviously times have changed on the issue of taking photographs but it could just be cultural preservation for themselves. Hopefully someday we do see more Native American cuisine in restaurants. I would love that. My high school collaborated with the Washoe people in Northern California. They were very kind people who shared a bit of their culture with us. I remember the fry bread was yummy!

Mexican food is not related to Native American food. They’re entirely distinct, and the techniques of preparation from the simple taco to the elaborate and complex mole are not remotely close to Native American but if you’re referring to ingredients, then I believe maize and squash play a big role in both cuisines and Mexican cuisine may have influenced Native American cooking.

She's a Northerner, the Chinese food in the US is more Cantonese in the south, of course she wouldn't know fuyong egg, orange chicken. I recently found out about chop suey which agrees with my southern tastebuds
She's cool, but their narrative is BS. She didn't bring "authentic" food, lol. The Chinese already in America are the ones who had created food all along, not non-Chinese. They adapted dishes using locally available ingredients, yet still with the aesthetic of THEIR Cantonese, Taishanese working class style. "Chop Suey" sounds silly, yes, but it's not far from simple home cooking of a Southern Chinese who has "odds and ends" to work with. "Egg Foo Young" is Cantonese fu jung dan (egg). Chiang comes from rich Shanghai living of half a century later and of course she isn't going to know that kind of food. So what she did was bring contemporary Northern Chinese food.
I wonder if those photos or copies of them of John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Jack Nicholson, Frank Sinatra, etc. are posted in the Mandarin restaurant. That would be very interesting and historical to see.
This is Mao Ze dongs Chinese food. Prior to her there were the Taishanese or the Toisanese that were here before doing a very different style at home but didn’t have the same capital she had to make her restaurant. People like her thought the Toisanese were ghetto peasants.
