Ok a little history lesson. The Eurovision Song Contest has been going since 1956. It was originally devised as a fun way to bring Europe back together only 10 years after the war. Each participating country submits an original song, performed by an artist or group of their choosing. In the first contest 7 countries took part with 2 entries each. Switzerland who hosted the first contest won that year. Initially it was only open to solo singers or duos. Groups were allowed from 1971 I think and the first group to win was ABBA (who you love a lot) with the song Waterloo. The winner is decided by each country voting on the night for their favourite songs, (a lengthy but exciting procedure). The voting system has changed with televoting arriving in the late 90’s. Now 50% of the score is from the televote in each country and 50% from a jury of music professionals in each country. Points are awarded to the top 10 songs each country has voted for with 1, 2, 3….etc points up to 8, 10 and the converted 12 points. This has become known as the ‘douze point’ (say it with a French accent). This is because in pre 2000 contests the score was repeated in English and French. Ireland and Sweden currently tie with 7 wins each with the UK, France and the Netherlands on 5 each. The winning country gets the honour of hosting the contest the following year but this is NOT as many people believe obligatory. Now about 37-42 countries each year take part so there are two semifinals to whittle down to 25 for the Saturday final. 5 countries get automatic entry to the final due to the money they contribute to keep the contest going They are France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK. The winner from the previous year also gets an automatic final place the next year. We, the UK last won in 1997 with an American band called Katrina and the Waves (had a big 80’s hit Walking on Sunshine). The UK also holds the record for the most 2nd places with 16. We came 2nd in 2022 and were in first place after the jury vote but due to the invasion of Ukraine there was a massive public vote for the Ukrainian song which won. Even the UK artist agreed it was the right result. As Ukraine couldn’t host the contest in 2023 the UK stepped in and did Ukraine proud. This win for Finland was their first and to date, only win, but was a massive hit with the voting viewers.
The music video to this song was one of the first ever videos i saw on TH-cam. My older sister showed me it, and I was terrified! Check it out, it's packed with zombies! 😂
That's Eurovision Chase: Wild and Crazy! It's a song contest that has been going on since 1956. The winning country gets to host the contest the following year. I'll definitely request more Eurovision songs in the future. Not all of them are rock. Take care God bless 😊💙
Eurovision is a legendary song contest, and these days some countries score 'nul points' which can be very embarrassing. Lordi won the contest in 2006 with the song 'Hallelujah'. In 2025 the contest will be held in the city of Basel, Switzerland. 🇨🇭
When you touch your desk there is something giving off a vibration to the mic. Its often something like a small metal object, phone or a shot glass etc.
Eurovision - Started in 1956 in Switzerland, is hosted by the winner of the contest in the year after (e.g. 2023 Sweden won, 2024 it hosted). Switzerland won this year, and it'll be in Basel, Switzerland in May 2025. Every genre imaginable in the music, and the winner this year (Nemo singing 'The Code') blended so many genres into their song. It's watched on the night by between 160-180 million people across Europe and beyond, including Australia, which participates currently. Most successful countries are Sweden and Ireland, with 7 wins each. Sweden is generally better in modern contests, although this year Ireland had a whacky performance (amazing camera angles, great storytelling) and came 6th to Sweden's 9th out of a total of 26 countries in the final. Votes: 50% juries - each participating country has a jury of 5 'music professionals' who rank the songs - after they are averaged that country then gives out points to its top 10 with 12 to the winner, then 10, 8, 7,6,5,4,3,2,1. 50% people voting from home - each country allocates those votes in the same way as the jury vote allocation. So a maximum winning score of 864 at the minute (37 participating countries in 2024). Switzerland won with 591. Croatia second with 547 this year. Winners since 2021 - Italy, Ukraine, Sweden, Switzeland. Rock, Rap, Electropop, and then a shitload of genres in this year's song. Italian song in Italian, Ukrainian in Ukrainian, Sweden in English and Switzerland in English. Many more things I could say but that's probably a good starting point.
Gosh, I haven't heard this since 2006, where it should have stayed! The look on your face was priceless, totes unimpressed 😂The only reason this won was because of the stupid costumes! Look up the Eurovision Song Contest, it's where ABBA won in 1974 with "Waterloo", we may never have heard of them if it wasn't for Eurovision!
A major reason it won was that the word spread among metal fans that there should be metal in Eurovision. Rockers and metal heads felt the rally cry and flocked around the TV to vote for Lordi.
Eurovision has so many different styles of music competing from all European countries. It's insanely good ❤

Eurovision.... you gotta get into it!!
One swedish group won the Eurovision song contest, the year was 1974. They had funny costumes, too. The group was called Abba.
