It could be about someone who is unwanted by certain people or by society for just being themselves or because of actions they have committed in the past. Another cool theory that I read online was that the song may be about an abuser speaking to their victim. The one on Genius states it’s about drug addiction and getting clean. Ethan, the guy from Crystal Castles states it’s about the “loss of freedom” So many interpretations! Still, that’s just one out of a million reasons why this song is a work of art.
I think is about someone who’s about to commit suicide as is stated in the lyrics “to commit a victimless crime” could implie that the person who is about to kill themselves just want to be released of suffering
I read a theory somewhere that it could be about being a closeted gay person or transgender in a homophobic/transphobic family. Imo the first 4 lines make a lot of sense if you have this theory in mind. Also the "You can hide inside my locket" and "Put a leash on when they walk you"
