After making our fursuit together I wanted to talk about the 5 biggest mistakes that I made. If you're wondering how to make a fursuit, it's really hard but you can do it. Here is some tips that might help

A little note I wanted to add about sharpies !! Certain colours will bleed through while others will be fine, so always check first :3

exactly. When i made my first set of paws i wrote L and R so i could differ them. Well long story short the backing of the fur was way to thin and it bled through the fur easily
So true, I used a blue sharpies and washed my suit one day after a con and all the sharpie bled through and onto the fur! (The fur was white :[ )
Yes! Metallic sharpies are great as they won't bleed when washed.
How about using chalk, would that be a sufficient alternative?
I’m about to make my first head ! The furring is what scares me the most but I’ve been doing a lot of research to help , even tho I know the first will always be flawed. Def appreciate the videos

Making paws as a commission and man so many mistakes it's torture but the final result is always worth it
my last commission I accidentally sewed two front and back pieces together 😂😂 thankfully the buyer said it was fine as it didn't make too much of a difference

as a furry from the 90s who has built fursuits. Yes.

Bruh the 90s so that’s we’re all those big foot sighting were from just the first furrys.
another thing i would add is hot gluing your seams. I did this with my first dinomask partial, went to refurbish it, and i had to fully remake everything because all the fur was ruined from the hot glue. If anyone watching this hot glues seams, i would recommend learning hand sewing or getting a sewing machine it will save you so much time if you decide to refurb your suit. Im working on a different dinomask partial right now and its turing out way better then my first suit
sewing is flat out a useful life skill, and opens a lot of doors in terms of being able to make and modify clothing to suit your wants and needs. And that practice with clothing/fur will loop back and help you with the other as well
yeah, on my first dinomask i literally just glued all the fur pieces onto the ears
As someone who would like to make my own fur suit one day, this is a very helpful video
My first head I started in 2016, I only had really thick foam and ended up cutting sheets in half to get the right thickness-
I came back to years later and it was unfinished so I decided to make another after getting the right foam and it's going great

Yea im making my first dinomask fursuit and i have messed up a bit but i find ways for a solution When i was trying to make the ears, i accidently glued the foam to the wrong side of the other piece but i just tore it off, peeled some excess glue off and then fixed it

great videos! -Something i should do is get back into doing Tutorial video streams, or begin doing tutorial videos for my YT channel. After 16+ years building fursuits as a profession & income, maybe creating tutorials on various fursuit techniques is something i may look into doing while building current commissioned suits. (following your page too now.
I’m currently working on my own suit. It’s a Dino mask one but I’m making the ears out of foam and tails. I might ask my best friend for some help because they made their fursuit before me!
Tip for sharpies! Use a silver one! It shows up on all black and dark fur too!
PUT THE FURSUIT IN A BATH WITH SLIVER AND BLACK SHARPIES! WORKS EVERY TIME!

i have made 3 fursuit heads and i can say i have made almost all of these mistakes (and that's not even counting the other heads i restarted)
double,even triple check your work if u have to bc making a mistake with fur is very costly, trust me i've done it enough times to know
Also, not know where patterns go, or not flipping your patterns is pain

I think I accidentally used too much hot glue for my foam base and now it feels a bit stiff when I try it on, especially in the cheek sections. Is there a way to fix that or are fursuit heads supposed to feel stiff from glue?
Suit head bases should be very plush and squishy, they are usually extremely light and you can completely squish it without really feeling any glue. If it’s not flexible like this, then you definitely added too much. In the end it shouldn’t make too much of a difference in the final suit. If you line it it should still be comfortable. People use solid bases from 3D printing or resin, so it shouldn’t be a big deal
You can try to trim the inside cheeks if your carful

i have a question too, would it be dumb to make a fursuit at a young age ? while growing up it may end smol…so i wonder is i should continue making fursona and waiting for my growth to slow down a little…
Depends, But it never hurts to start developing skills. If you make a fursuit, and it no longer fits, you'd at least have experience that allow you to remake it in the future. So I say, go for it!

I’m also younger, and my body hasn’t fully developed yet, if I were you I wouldn’t put the time, money, and materials into a full-body fursuit, instead you can make a parcel, head, or even just paws, and or feet
I would say yes, just make parts on the inside removable so when you get older they can fit your bigger head
My sona is so unusual that I might just focus on tail and wings.
