Turnitin doesn’t recognise you as the same person that had the reference and is submitting the paper, it is impartial as such it objectively just tells you when the words are similar to another paper, and unfortunately your own work is considered self plagiarism

In my experience Turnitin is accurate, more often than not it’s the references and the order we put them in that brings it up. With most institutions they have a cut off beyond that percentage they investigate, 37% is low.

Hey Maria! Can you look at the breakdown of the 26% as in what’s highlighted? Don’t stress about the percentage number it could just be references and titles.
If both of you go to for instance, X University, then on the side panel (where you check the turnitin percentages ) it would say Student paper - X University Try not to copy your friend’s assignment, dunno about your uni but back in the day when my uni caught some people cheating they kicked them out and it went on their permanent record, kinda scary tbh

If you’ve got one source that says 21% that’s not good - you’re literally copying it but if the breakdown says 1% from this and that then you’re good One of my assignments went as high as 40% and I was clear so there isn’t a ‘threshold’

Sorry for the late reply, usually when you say things ‘in your own words’ it’s not considered plagiarised, so I’m assuming it would have been a massive chunk if they caught it, or have I misunderstood your question?

The 40% isn’t the red flag, but the 29% from one source is worrying Was it common stuff things like assignment header , student name or was it actual information?

Anything that has been submitted online so any assignments submitted online for uni etc, websites, journals, blogs, etc Anything that’s been submitted as a hard copy will not pop up on turnitin
If there are other people in class taking the same notes and then they use those notes in their assignment… you could get what is called ‘colluded plagiarism’.
My only explanation would be after other people uploaded it , it shows similarities between you and everyone who uploaded it - but this is just a speculation
You need to open up the assignment and check what was highlighted If it’s your name , references, Id, headings then it’s fine If not, then based on the things highlighted you know what sounds ‘copied’ and rewrite it in a different way
So they closed the link for the assignment that I show in the video so you can’t really submit your assignment on my school’s account However, since this seems to be a popular request I sent my school an email to see if there’s a way the rest of yous can check your assignments if you don’t have turnitin or if it isn’t incorporated in your school’s canvas/Moodle account

Yea I figured, so I’ve got it automatically on my University login landing page but I reckon you gotta purchase it and by the looks of it you need to be able to insert your University course code to be able to use it. Hope that helps

1% is ok, but always cite it, it is plagiarism if it isn’t cited

Same mine was 23% then i checked after about a 2 months it went to 72%
