In the first video, we discussed the mysterious world of Eorzea, a world enjoyed by over 30 million people worldwide. It should be noted Shattoto didn't set out create a school of magic meant to destroy and subjugate. Her creation of Black Magic was born of a boundless desire to push what magic could be, and in fact she used her immense mastery of Black Magic to save Eorzea from a comet. She was able to strike it with such force as to turn it away from the planet.
Kinda surprised that FF14 really has this kind of extensive lore. I'm so accustomed to the other FFs like 7 getting all the attention.
Tbh I sometimes feel like 14 gets too much attention too. I love the hell outta it (even if I don’t play anymore) but sometimes I feel like it’s players simply ignore the rest of the series due to them not being mmos or whatever other reason. I could be wrong tho, just the impression I’ve got.
@@craftsmenMC Honestly, thats why I like the crossover events and raids with other FF games, gets people like me who only know 7 and the more recent ones like 13 and 15 to look a little deeper. For example, I had no idea who Exdeath was until the Omega raids and had a passing understanding of Kefka but them appearing got me interested enough to look them up.
@@Lorekeeper72 that’s a very good point! Though I had no idea there were raids based on other games outside of the kefka raid, the one with Dissidia WOL, and the cloud of darkness raid.

That's kind of weird, since most of _FFXIV's_ lore is the lore of earlier games in the series all bodged together. As a couple examples pertinent to this video, Xande and his Crystal Tower are refugees from _FFIII_ and Shatotto is an obvious expy of _FFXI's_ Shantotto.
FF14 is pretty bad game imo. Terrible pvp, stupid gcd, easy raids.
One of the most interesting eras in the game.

I realize it's spoileriffic, but it's worth noting that it takes more than _just_ imbalance in Eorzea to cause a Calamity. It's _necessary,_ but it's not _sufficient._
Also worth noting: while the stories focus on how Eorzea contributes to Calamities, they're very much a global affair.
Also also: the best surviving records come down from Amdapor, and a group led by one of their ruling class. The narrative that it's all Mhach's fault is very suspect, especially since 'nobody knows' how the War began.
Not saying the Mhachi were innocent, and their bug out plan went almost as well as the average Cerberus research project, but 'benign Big Brother Amdapor' doesn't sound particularly likely either.
True, while Mhach was guilty of using literal monsters from the void it should be noted that Amdapor was just as reckless with their use of magic. Both sides were hurling spells of almost every kind of element all save one, water. Hence, the following Unbral era of Water.
The fact that Holy is a spell that literally stops the flow of aether in living creatures and it’s the signature spell of Amdaporian White Mages implies their mastery of healing also allowed them to use darker forms of magic.
Those who heal know best how to kill and it’s likely the White Mages were using spells far more torturous than just Holy.

Well, sure, when the story is being told by a bunch of Amdapori apologists.
There's actually two versions of the War of the Magi, one from FFVI and another, the one in this video, from FFXIV
A little bit of irony in that the 'three goddesses' in _FFXIV_ were dealt with millenia earlier during Xande's Mysidian conquest rather than during the conflict named after their own.
I don't understand why this doesn't have way more views; two days after release, it hasn't broken 10k. This isn't even a game I've played, but I'm here and enjoying it immensely.

The mages of this world may be very powerful indeed. But they don't have exactly the most original naming conventions.
What's the point of original naming convention when scienific and proper naming and organize is more important for their society to constantly improve.
There's joke about this in one of the library dungeons about how spells get named
Previous FF games use suffixes like -Ga and -Ra to denote spell strength
In 14 the spell creators decide to just assign numbers like Cure 1, Cure 2 for simplicity

This is great! However I would like to point out that Mhach is pronounced like the word "mach speed" or the word "loch" due to it being based on Celtic/Gaelic names.
I really enjoy your lore videos and hope to see more, including the conclusions of your other series.
I've always keep recommending using a anime/manga sources for future videos, with many to choose from with their own varied lore.
This will add more variety to your list of sources including novels, video games, comics, alternate history, etc.
Again always looking forward to watch your next video.

@@lushdontu4015 nobody has an unlimited supply of magic. and if you take it from the land, you'll eventually deplete it and make the elementals very angry like what triggered the great flood
@@spiner9099 black mages and white mages have primal level power. They drain magic from the world without straining themselves. And the flood was triggered because mages barely used water aspected magic
Now the War of the Magi makes sense to me.

Does Nym have anything to do with the survival of Calamity of Water? I think it might.
It wasn't _that_ sudden. There were a bunch of different survival plans, many that succeeded to different degrees. The most famous is that one of the Amdapori high muck-a-mucks packed up all the books he could, got hisself an ark, and with the help of the people he took with him founded Sharleyan. Mhachi refugees founded the desert kingdom Belah'dia.
Nym, on the other hand, was largely destroyed because they were still dealing with the Mhachi curse when the Calamity struck.
@@boobah5643 Nym technically survived. It sealed itself away to contain the curse and its people survived, although they only did so in monstrous, nigh mindless forms until the events of FFXIV.

While I did enjoy the video I would appreciate you learning how to pronounce the Mhachi names (and other names for that matter) properly if you're going to do documentary work on a series. Was a bit painful to keep hearing you pronounce Mhach wrong. They're all based on Gaelic and Celtic names. Worth remembering since this game uses names based on many different cultures, including Mongolian and Indian stuff too.
Random examples of Celtic/Gaelic stuff in game:
Mhach = mak
Dun Scaith = doon sky
Scathach = skahak
Cait Sith = ket shee
Cu Chulainn = Cu hulehnn
For the Algorythm
It's really too bad that Final Fantasy 14 currently uses textures that look like they belong in Lara Croft tomb raider
They are working on upgrading the visuals but If you are familiar with the creation of FF14 its a miracle how the game looks and even more so how it looks now.
