    If you click on the artist's names or the images it'll take you to their individual Artstation portfolio pages too which will have a lot more artworks and information. There's some really awesome stuff in there such as the full concept for the Veil that Dima did!

    I really dig the RoN armor for the warlock. I love the chest piece especially!
    And I was surprised and pleased at the seasonal armor sets. Normally they are so basic, but the techeun sets are hella good!

    I love seeing all the concept art, it’s a shame that so many people just kinda don’t understand how concept art works. A lot of people say that we got robbed or that “as usual” the concept art is better than in game.
    Concept art is exactly what it sounds like, concepts. It’s purely to get an idea of things and explore possibilities. The finished product often reflects what’s there, but it’s not always gonna match it.
    The biggest example I’ve seen people bring up is Nezarec’s darkness cape. Yeah, it would’ve been awesome to get that in game, but because of development time and technical limitations that just isn’t gonna happen, it was simply something explored in concept art. Cloaks and loose fabric in general are tough to pull off in a game, never mind cloaks made up of swirling masses of darkness.

      The issue here isn't that the concept art wasn't the final product, it's that the final product was so lazy and subpar, while the concept art was very creative and ambitious.
      For example, the concept art for Fallout New Vegas is amazing, but the base product itself is amazing as is, concept art or not. The same can't be said about Lightfall, which is the worst modern DLC to date, only being beat by Curse of Osiris.

      The first season pass already had insane armor though, it just kinda sizzled out until season of the splicer jumpstarted the quality again

    I love the new weapon designs. Its clear that Nezarec has Lovecraftian inspiration, being based around fear and pain, the tentacles and multiple eyes, invading dreams, the whole 9, so it makes sense the weapons would too.
    I also really love the armor, its very out there and unique which is great. Better designed than most new sets in recent memory. Its shaders can be a bit off, but with some trickery you can make them fit with other armor pieces (I've notice Royal Treatment on normal shaded gear fits well with Grand Luster on the RoN gear). Some people say its the "worst raid armor" in destiny history, but I find that hard to believe. Seriously when in just D2 we have bland gear like Last Wish's or VoG's, I'd take the RoN gear any day.
    I've run the raid a few times, but have yet to get anything I want because RNJesus is the biggest bitch in the world. God would I kill for a loot pity system so I stop getting shit roll leg armor every single run. I just want the damn Warlock Helmet and Chest.

    I love concept art books. Real talk I would pay money for a yearly Destiny Art Book - Expansion and Seasonal Concept Art. I think that'd be cool, love seeing the art before it's finalized

    It always baffles me when they create awesome concept art but then ship a huge downgrade. Not just destiny, but in all media.

      That's why it's called concept art. It is meant to depict something that could be and not necessarily something that will be. The same goes for concept cars, etc.

      A lot of what we saw as concept art was from what they call the ‘blue sky’ phase iirc, it’s basically ideas they have if they had no constraints such as time and budget. Obviously the real product is subject to those constraints

      If you understood how development actually works and how concepts become reality, you'd understand why we get what we get. And I'm not talking just game development. Everything from concept cars to anything conceptual, we don't always get what was originally envisioned for any number of reasons.

    Damn, i just fell in love with Jacob Gonzalez's concept art. Like, really, his techeun armor concept just touches me in ways i never knew were possible before. And the one with the pyramids after the traveller's blast is just soooo awesome. It really does sell the idea of an alien ship that is already sprawling with life after a devastating strike by some great force. It also kinda looks dark-souls-esque, but that doesn't take away from it's originality AT ALL. So yeah, now he's one of my new favourite artists :D

    “Giant green dragon” was the perfect explanation for early concept of brood weaver. Devs said the super was originally you transforming into a giant green spider but I could see the confusion in the concept art

      Seems like they were trying different ideas for a pet class and finally settled on threadlings as the version of that they could implement.

A giant fiery lion covered in titan markings able to “stomp” away enemies with scorching and a charging attack. A massive void snake capable of weakening and constricting larger enemies. Maybe a giant bird of prey capable of jolting opponents from afar as well as a blinding strike directly below, the wings of the bird could also knock back similar to leviathans breath. Just an idea Obv. but I always thought the symbols of the different classes could be cool ideas for kinetic supers or something

      Me, too, but given how we know the Warlock was going to be a big spider but they couldn't get the animation rig to work and apparently the Titan was going to get a flamethrower but they couldn't get the flames to play nice with their netcode, I hope we don't get any new supers until the next engine overhaul. Maybe the expansion after the Final Shape. Right now they seem to be running into limits on what the engine will let them do, so I'd rather wait and get something more interesting later once they've broadened what the engine will support a bit again.

    Bungie needs to rethink how things get passed. I'd rather have gotten most of what's in the concept art than what we actually got. Heres hoping seasonal is better than the main story 😅

    Destiny with their showcases vs. what we get in-game is exactly like McDonalds with the burger picture on the menu vs. what you get over the counter.
    Edit: Dragon powers would have been amazing.

    The planets encounter cabal boss art solidified one thing that is very interesting. We have known for a while that resonance is “pure darkness”, but from that image we know that the power of “pure light” (traveler’s white light) is named “terraforming”.

    yup, there's a lot of professional artists on art station. My favorite are the artists who post the art, and then post the inspiration, and that's like a whole pintrest style guide to what they are aiming for, and gives the team the idea where to go. There's a lot of groups like this, and back 20 years ago there was "Massive Black," a design team that worked on Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell and Metroid Prime. They would do a lot of trade show and have an artist design monsters but it's all like sponsored by Wacom. All of this is good for students and anyone who wants an insight how they develop designs.

    I was able to transmog the seasonal hunter arms once I had a piece of the arm armor in my inventory. I'm not sure if that works for everyone but it worked for me.

    I totally understand the communities outrage towards the designs being cooler in concept. This is actually quite normal for most media, the concepts allow for much more personality then 3d models (wild right) but your brain can accept flat images with a much more linient eye then 3d stuff, so we tend to need 3d stuff to make sense to us, leading to the models looking a bit more bland and understandable. BUT sometimes the team doesnt have a clear goal set out for each department, which this seems to be the case as we know that this was partly supposed to be the final shape, so it suffers from being 2 different things at its core instead of 1 unified concept. Also the raid weapons are just older models with some hive armor attached which sucks.

    If you can't transmog the hunter thunder arms from nimbus you have to get the seasonal arms from the war table first its fixes the bug you just have to aquire them dont need to transmog them

    The reason concept art can get messy and lost is
    Director has idea
    Director gives to art director
    Art director talks to art lead
    Art lead tells senior or junior to make concept.
    They make concept they give it to lead, it gets rejected they do it again, lead approves it goes to art director, is a amazing design, now it has to get approved by director. Shareholders. People who work in the game design sector such as the balance team.

    The armour sets from Root of Nightmares is really impressive, but as you say, a bit too out-there for me - the hunter shoulder-pads off the cloak is just too bulky for me to like wearing as a Hunter

    I actually think about the screenshot team every time they release a trailer. Perfectly placed explosions and teams of guardians flying through them, obviously done in-game. It's usually pretty impressive too. I'm pretty sure those guys are heavily involved with all of that happening too right?

    Concept art for ANY game almost always looks cooler or better than actual gameplay...so this Lightfall concept art looking better than actual Lightfall gameplay doesn't really shock me...maybe someday concept art can be recreated perfectly into actual gameplay

    Problem with the armour sets is that people very rarely want to wear a single set for every armour piece, part of what makes destiny fashion so fun is the mixing and matching of different pieces and the hundreds of shaders we have to play with. So when you get an armour set that doesn’t fit with any other because it’s sooo different, and one that doesn’t take to shaders as rigidly as others, it’s hard to justify using any of it

    I dunno, I think the art in D2 is good overall, but Neomuna is by no means a highlight for me personally. RoN armor and weapons are some of the ugliest I've ever seen in any game. The location is awesome though.

    paul what do you think about the theory saying Root of Nightmares was originally a dungeon and got turned into the raid? i think that is the case personally and the planet room is as thrown in there with a random cabal dude and doesn’t fit the rest of the raid. don’t get me wrong tho it is a pretty sick encounter.

      I agree there isn’t any evidence to support it was ment to be a dungeon, but I do agree something was up with the Planet Encounter. It doesn’t fit in with the rest of the raid and def was something thrown in there. I also agree that the mechanics were a bit simple for a raid, but nevertheless I do like it. Raids nice, I’ll run it a bunch on Master to get my god roll adepts, and prob be done w it.

    I like the seasonal techeun armor but man does the raid armor look like fucking garbage. Good luck fitting most of those pieces with anything else, and have fun looking like a multi-limbed zebra monster. The armor looks like nothing from the raid and is a massive disappointment when they had so many other things they could have done.
    A tip for making a look for the Cadmus Ridge Lancecap, I found that it fits very well with a military officer kind of look. Padded shoulders, ammo pouches, vests. The elements mesh well with the padded cloth look of the helmet and the stasis shades really nicely to fit it within your color palette
