My favorite is dynamic type because I immerse into the world deeper and care about the characters more, and I love following big character arcs, so I started working on the first book for dynamic series. It's nice to care about the main character, knowing that she's going to be a part of my life for a long time and that she'll have a whole journey and lots of personal development. It won't be a long series though, it doesn't seem likely for me to manage long series. 4 or 5 books would be nice and cool. Ah, dreams :)

I love reading fantasy series like the "Song of Ice and Fire", and Sarah Maas books. I like stand-alone romance series. When you described what an episodic series is, I immediately thought "The X-Files". Then you referenced it later in the video. I feel like I passed a test lol Looking forward to the rest of this series series.

Just what I needed! I can't wait for the rest of the series series. I don't know how, but your videos always come just when I need them. Your videos are always so inspiring and informative and I hope I can take one of your courses one day!
I tend to be attracted to series that feature a dynamic plot but stand-alone couples. I think I've seen this most in paranormal romance, though I'm having a brain fart and can't think of an example right now. A plot that builds novel by novel, clearly building up to a big bad in such a way that you really need to read chronologically, but with a new couple leading the charge in each book. I think I'm so attracted to this kind of series because you get one awesome overarching paranormal or urban fantasy story with a lot of individual book-level love stories. And I'm a sucker for seeing two side characters I'm secretly shipping in Book One get their own romance in a later book in the series.
I wouldn't mind a video on a serial, by the way! I'm working on one right now and it's definitely a new and exciting challenge.

Specially the hybrid/ episodic one, I am reading Renee Bernard Jaded Gentelmen novels and those are 6 romance books set on 1 couple each but there is a lot of character interaction and the main mystery going on at the same time tying all the stories together.

Feels a bit overwhelming to me right now because I've only written 4 books in my two series and they are both dynamic series. Just rewatched your video for my own series. I'm starting to edit book one in October and have rough ideas for the rest of the books. Using what I've learned now from this video I would definitely call it a dynamic series :) I love that you translate those terms to TV-Shows and that you bring up "Supernatural" :D I would say "The Walking Dead" is another dynamic series when it comes to TV and to the comics. "Fringe" is a bit difficult. It could be episodic, but the cases are so intwined with one another and the character development is building up as we go that I would say it's dynamic. Other dynamic shows I can think of are "Orphan Black" and "Ripper Street" :)
Thanks for your video. I love how you explain things! Sending love and creative vibes

I write m/m romances and my series so far have all been stand-alone series. I enjoy expanding the world a little bit with each book but also checking in with the previous heroes (I write what I love to read, basically;)). Right now, however, I'm editing a trilogy that fits more into the dynamic series description, because there's a different couple's love story in each book, but there's an overarching plot, so people will have to read the books in order to get the complete story.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the videos, since I love writing series! And I'm especially interested in the video on the emotional impact of writing them, because you're right, that's almost never a part of the conversation on series.

Glad I stumbled on this video, I'm currently working on two different series.
One is an epic urban fantasy, the other just an epic fantasy.
Just in case you are unaware epic fantasies tend to be your multi book series that are around 300,000+ words each book. Examples of such are A Song of Ice and Fire, The Wheel of Time, and The Stormlight Archive.
I've never heard of the term dynamic series before, but I really like it.
I've tried to write more contained works, but I doubt many of my ideas will ever be shorter that trilogies.
Big multi book fantasy series are what I love to read, and what inspired my writing journey in the first place.
    I found the video informative.

Turns out I'm writing an episodic series! It's new adult contemporary, focused on relationships, but not really romantic ones. It's an exploration of how we navigate the world as young adults, I guess. I'm still figuring it all out, so this series is going to be super useful for me! Thank you for creating it!

I love this! I cannot wait for the rest of your videos. I am definitely a series reader/writer. I love being invested in characters for the long haul. Currently, I am writing a dynamic epic fantasy series and also a dynamic romance trilogy that will eventually have spinoff books for supporting characters.

Sarra, you are anazing, I have no idea how you manage this huge output of work. I am a planner, not a writer but I love your writing videos, always so interesting.

Thank you for this series! :) I am writing a trilogy...but have introduced some secondary characters who could potentially be H/h for additional titles. So this is very helpful information for me.

This is like a good college lecture. Quality stuff. Makes me think about things I would not have thought of on my own. Had to take notes on this. You use a lot of examples, which is good because it helps each idea to sink in. Sounds great at 1.25 playback speed, which feels like getting a good lecture and still getting out of class early. 😁

I've watched a lot of stuff on self-publishing series and you're one of the only people to bring up queer and LGBT and polyamorous romance. So thank you. That was nice to hear this morning. ❤

I am so excited for this series! I am finally making headway on my first novel and I really want to make it a whole series so I will be watching these videos over and over I think. AND it gives me a reason to use up another notebook! All the notes and thoughts as i watch.

Hi. Thanks for sharing! I'm in the process of writing an Urban Christian drama trilogy with plans of afterward writing a spin-off saga series involving the same cast of characters and setting
from my trilogy. I think the standalone type is probably best for me. Loved your house analogies! :)

This is great. I'm so excited for the rest of the series series. I like mysteries series like Sue Grafton's alphabet series, Diane Mott Davison's Goldie the Caterer or Lawrence Block's Bernie Rhodenbarr series. I'm trying to write a series along those lines.

Would love to see a video on the differences between serial versus series! But then again, I love all the videos you post. ;)
