With their size and importance, having a giant fleet filled with Soviet trams (and in a pretty questionable condition at that) is pretty inexcusable. Luckily they have followed Moscow's example and are now announced complete modernization of their tram fleet.
That's a shit video. Besides these we have modern Stadler trams, then there are a lot of retro style trams, and on top of that there are real retro trams dated 30-40ies of the 20th century, used for tram excursions only.
Always love to watch Tim's videos from all around the world! Pitifully we don't have many new trams last years, but a year ago city got about 3000 new buses, CPG and LNG powered, much greener and cleaner than their diesel brothers that polluted St. Petersburg's air for many years. Now it's promised and being delivered -- city metro will get about 900 new cars -- over a hundred new metro trains, hundreds of new trams and trolley buses.
Thanks for the nice video. Very nice to see, the old trams are work today. I hope the City of St Petersburg make not all trams demolition for new Trams. My Home town are demolished all old trams for new Trams😭. only 2 or 3 Trams from the old Trams live today in a museum... The Red and withe Trams Petersburg are cool. The old Blue tram are from Moskow?
St. Petersburg didn't get any trams from Moscow or from anywhere, they only buy trams from the manufacturer. Old blue ones are the same as the old red ones in principle, they were made locally in St. Petersburg by PTMZ factory in 80s-90s. Nowadays this factory is rebuilt and called NZET, which makes the new trams which are seen in the very beginning of the video. St. Petersburg announced the full upgrade of the fleet by 2024, but knowing them, they meticulously preserve their history so surely they will preserve at least one of each old tram model in running condition.
Reasonable. A lot of people are still unwilling to vaccinate (cue anti vaxxers later in the comments) but at least they cut down on the number of cases significantly without any serious lockdowns.
@@Krasavellich92 so you say that those roads and gheto trams are normal? (I do not say that everything there is bad, but a city like Leningrad or St. Petresburg like how you call it nowadays has to look much better than this.) I don't know, but Bulgaria (my country) has really gotten better than Russia in terms of infrastructure.
@@vladislavvalev8186 You don't judge entire Russia by St. Petersburg trams lol. Sadly they make an emphasis on highway infrastructure, I've been to Bulgaria, including Sofia, and can say here St. Petersburg is more advanced. As for trams I'd say they are roughly the same condition between SPB and Sofia (they also don't have a lot of fully new vehicles, as for tracks I don't know). But overall if you want to see actually advanced public transport you go to Moscow, Kazan but not St. Petersburg. Even though they now plan to modernize it all in the next 2-3 years, so hopefully that situation will change. They manage their public transport incredibly poorly as of yet. Also, you know that Bulgaria buys metro trains from Russia, right? Wouldn't happen if we were such a stone age country huh?
Wow st petersburg has a cool mix of modern trams and soviet trams

Quite a variety of rolling stock, from sleek and new to venerable museum pieces!

I like it when the coaches are longer in multiple coach streetcars.
